Pete Prisco Impressed By Work Of Jason Licht

August 28th, 2024

“Greenberg, Prisco’s here again. I can hear him arguing with Ira.”

It’s hard to win over a long-time NFL columnist who has very high, exacting standards and is unafraid and unapologetic to call out any player, coach, suit, owner or fan who doesn’t meet those standards.

Joe is referring to CBS insider prickly Pete Prisco, who lives in Florida and is no stranger to One Buc Palace. Of all the national NFL media types, Prisco likely shows up at One Buc Palace and watches practice and talks to movers and shakers more than any of them.

In short, Prisco does his Bucs homework.

Prisco really likes what he saw from the Bucs’ rookie class and in particular, two rookies drafted early by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht. That got Licht and his staff a standing-O from Prisco yesterday on social media.

Joe doesn’t want to jinx the Bucs, but it is drafts like Licht has had the past two years that are liable to get a general manager a contract extension.

If third-round pick McMillan really turns into “that guy,” it will only make Mike Evans and Chris Godwin and Cade Otton more dangerous.

If McMillan comes through (or if Trey Palmer takes that proverbial next step in his second year), who are teams going to double team?

Joe read a take recently that claimed an offense is only as dangerous as its No. 3 receiver.

I hope our August optimism turns into September reality. Starting off strong is going to be critical. I mean that in the first quarter of games and in the schedule.

    Go Bucs

  3. PSL Bob Says:

Evans, Godwin, McMillan, and Otton all lining up together. You can’t double team them all, and one-on-one, every one of those guys can beat coverage. Should make for a very dynamic offense, particularly if the O-line and RBs improve the running game. LFG!

That would allow R White to also continue to kick butt in the passing game. This could be an interesting offense, as you said, especially if we have a running game. Hopefully Todd does not put a choke hold on it.

  5. WiseCrack Says:

If only we had a QB not cut out of Saun King Mold.

I don’t mean size alone, I mean you know, one that can get us over the hump and not rely so heavily on the D to keep you in the game.

Just saying. That 3rd WR don’t mean beans with this D and QB

  6. Baking with Evans Says:

We seem to have a few guys on offense and defense which need to e double teamed by our opponents. Things are looking bright. I think the run and edge rushers along with secondary will be drastically improved. LFG!!!!

  7. Baking with Evans Says:

This might be the year when the rest of the country will notice our talent. Next year we make a statement!

    Won’t be long now.

  9. garro Says:

Keeping all is very rare. Heck, keeping a seventh rounder is crazy rare these days. Congrats Mr Klein!

    Go Bucs!

Interesting point re the 3rd WR.

That checks out. Bucs SB XXXVII year, we had Joe “You Go Joe” Jurevicius. Bucs SB LV, we had Antonio Brown, who’d be in the Hall if not so damn crazy.

In 2003, JJ got injured early in the year, and we all know what AB did at the end of 2021. I agree with what Joe has written before, if AB didn’t lose his mind against the Jets, Bucs win back to back SBs.

    And Antonio Brown in 2020.

    AB in 2024? Confused.

Let’s hope it’s a contract extension and not an offer too good to refuse from another NFL owner. Right now IMHO Licht is the MVP of the entire organization players, coaches, and cheerleaders.

He’s won a freaking SB and then survived the disaster that frequently occurs after winning an SB(s) and the Cap wreaks hell on the winning team. Licht has absolutely killed it when it comes to surviving Brady. He won the SB with him as planned and then minimized the damage after Tommy Boy’s marital problems and wandering eye for another franchise.

Football is a team sport from the owners on down. Everybody has to do their jobs. IMHO Licht has excelled at his!!!

Unless a guy is a free agent, that would be tampering. Big no-no in the NFL. Just ask Stephen Ross.

i hate to argue with pear and joe, but i didnt think kansas city had much at 3rd receiver last year. maybe i misunderstood – this could be a bucs thing rather than an nfl thing.
i always look at offensive line first before predicting our record.
i see a winning team this year and a super bowl run starting the next.
