No “Vomit” At Bucs Headquarters

August 13th, 2024

It’s easy to laugh at how so many national experts consider the Packers and Falcons to be better than the Buccaneers.

Yes, Tampa Bay hammered Green Bay in Wisconsin nine months ago and dumped the Falcons in their ugly dome with a lot on the line. The Bucs are good, but it’s just not accepted.

That brings Joe back to Green Bay, ProFootballTalk.com had a post today on how Packers head coach Matt LaFleur can’t handle media chatter and questions that deal with his team’s lack of a top-flight receiver — in a passing league.

I want to vomit every time I hear ‘No. 1 receiver.’ It drives me crazy,” LaFleur said. “That’s something you guys talk about. I think we’ve got a bunch of them. I think the beauty of them is they’re capable of doing many things, which gives us a lot of versatility from an offensive perspective in terms of how we use these guys and deploy their talents. Especially those, I would say top-four guys, they’re capable of being a No. 1 in some capacity. It’s just how do we want to attack somebody? Where do we want to put those guys? Who’s going to get the ball? I don’t know. It could change on a week-to-week basis. We saw it last year.”

Joe had to laugh. It’s a passing league. But the Packers don’t have a top-shelf receiver while the Bucs have two.

LaFleur’s comments remind Joe in a weird way of the Bucs and their stable of edge rushers. The Bucs get the sacks totals they need and don’t show panic when talking about their edge rush that might not have a true “No. 1” guy. But they ran out and signed troubled Randy Gregory in the offseason and drafted Chris Braswell in Round 2. The Bucs addressed the position with their actions.

The Packers? They didn’t add a receiver in the draft or in free agency.

LaFleur’s got a QB who consumes so much cap room he has to say that about his receiver group. Pack can’t afford any names there.

  2. Bubby Says:

That game in ATL was a coin flip. We were losing with 3 mins left and it took a last minute td from baker to squeak out the win. Unfortunately they dumped us at Ray Jay.

If the falcons did upgrade at QB, which is still a question mark, we could be in trouble.

  3. Larrd Says:

I have to agree with the coach. Seems like they’ve got some good young receivers they’ve drafted the past few years, plus a couple young tight ends. The Chiefs have done fine getting rid of Tyreke, Justin Jefferson has won nothing, etc etc.

Since when the Packers are a great team?
Since when Jordan Love is a great QB?
Since when the Falcons are a good team?

Sometimes the ‘experts” ay so many stupid things, sooner or later common people need to realize makes no sense to listen to this guys, the Florio’s an Cowherd’s from this planets….it’s a business for them, for we average fans, is a passion and it’s a huge difference

  5. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Let’s trade a backup receiver, a mid-round draft pick to the Patriots for Judon!! Let’s do it Jason. Go Bucs

    In Licht We Trust!!!

  7. Fan of the South Says:

I can understand joe’s argument for being almost as good as the Packers.

    But better offensively?

    Total Yards GB 11 / T 23
    Passing GB 12 / T 20
    Rushing GB 12 / T 32
    Points Per Game GB 22.5 / T 20.5

All this with their best receiver on the sidelines for half the season.

Love put up 32 TD’s and was 7th in Passing Yards to Mayfield 28 and 9th

By no metric is was Tampa or Mayfield better though.

  8. Kenton Smith Says:

Bubby Never Fear! Of course Atlanta could beat us this year. But I know this team of ours is getting better- excellent draft for the Offense Barton,McMillan and Irving ! Wow. Plus the contracts are signed for everyone. Everyone an extra year together! But when the dust settles our biggest advantage will be clearly visible. I believe we have an offensive coordinator boys! And I believe he fits right in.

  9. DoooshLaRue Says:

I think the Packers are on the rise.
    The Falcons are freaking garbage.

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I think it all washes out during the season. I hope we win 11 games or more. I hope Mayfield has an elite year. I hope we have a tip ten defense.

And I hope we win a ring.

The rest will deal with itself.

  11. Lou. Says:

    @Joe —

Depth is a matter of quality and competition.

Bowles mentioned that the Bucs are deep at edge. He’s right. Our 2nd best OLB in about as good as the 10th edge.

No a dime’s worth of difference.

  12. Buc4evr Says:

Bucs need to work a deal with the Jets for Reddick so the Bucs can be truly deep at edge. Otherwise we get to watch JTS run around like chicken with his head cut off..

  13. Biff Barker Says:

All division games are tough. Its because all are must win.
    Mind games too.
This team has talent now and thinks they can win. better coaches matter too. More Liam means less Todd. He needs to be more DC than HC during games
Yeah every team has holes. But fret less Buc fans, were a better team!
    Go Bucs!

  14. infomeplease Says:

Kenton Smith, I like how you think! We have the real deal!

  15. infomeplease Says:

In almost all close games, the team with the better coach wins.
