Luke Goedeke Talks All-Pro Ceiling

August 20th, 2024

Does Luke Goedeke crave center stage?

Joe is a big Luke Goedeke fan. The guy is super strong (stronger than Tristan Wirfs), plays hard, talks trash and had a strong 2023 season.

Goedeke also is obsessed with practice film.

At 25 years old, Goedeke should only get better.

So this week Baker Mayfield told a national SiriusXM NFL Radio audience that he thinks Goedeke gets a little pissed off that Wirfs gets all the accolades when it comes to the Bucs’ tackles. So Joe asked Goedeke today if that’s true.

Goedeke gave a thoughtful answer, and while he says he’s not irked by the Wirfs accolades and admiration, he made it clear that he thinks he can become the best tackle in the game.

“I wouldn’t say I get angry that I don’t get the love Tristan does,” Goedeke said. “I mean, I would say my goal is to be a caliber of player [that] Tristan is. I’ve just always had a drive and determination in me to kind of be a top-tier, one of the best tackles in the league. … … I just want to kind of push myself to kind of get [to Tristan’s level] and kind of learn from him. I wouldn’t say like it angers me. I mean, my ceiling is extremely high. I mean, just scratching the surface. I just want to be an All-Pro and Pro Bowl player at the end of the day and help this team win championships.”

What a coup it would be if Goedeke takes another step forward this season and gets into the Pro Bowl right tackle conversation.

He certainly has the attitude and the tools to make it happen.

Maybe with the new and better coaching.

  2. Beeej Says:

He went from CUT HIM! to one of the better tackles in the NFL in the span of 1 season. It could happen

  3. Truth be Told Says:

This line is looking pretty darn good. We are actually going to be able to run the ball. Let’s get Baked! Go Bucs

  4. ATLBuc Says:

Joe! Is it possible that we could have the best Offensive line in the League? And possibly one of the top Defensive lines? I’m starting to think that we might be a very dominant team this year.

  5. Bojim Says:

Agree beeej. Folks seem to ignore the fact that he was a rookie last year

I remember one play that impressed me. Baker climbed the pocket set up to throw, pump faked and then turned to release the ball off to the right. then the camera panned to Goede who was still blocking his man at the original pocket.
I believe there will many more clean pockets this year with plenty of time to hit the open man.

Not ready to go there yet. Improved? Sure. Deep? Possible. Last time the Bucs had an offensive line that (most) fans deemed good the Bucs had three Pro Bowlers on it (and a fourth if you believed Bruce Arians).

Should the Bucs be good enough up front to win game? Hell yes.

  8. JimBobBuc Says:

Goedeke has the right attitude – aim high and work hard. We all assume he will improve from last year, but that doesn’t always happen. His success will also be related to Mauch’s play.

Mauch has played a lot in the games, so I’m guessing that Cars and Pic see an opportunity for Cody to improve. Klein has been doing well – could Klein be pushing Mauch for snaps?

  9. Proudbucsfan Says:

He will get better and probably go to the pro bowl, so long as he never goes back to guard. He was terrible his rookie season.

  10. garro Says:

    Go Glass eater!

Hope he continues his upward trajectory as well Joe! I think he will. All Pro? We can’t even get our All Pros in. Becasue they play for the Bucs…

    Go Bucs!

  11. Badbucs Says:

Hopium rampaging. Interior line is a total guess. Mauck was bad, Barton a rookie and Brederson graded awful last year too. How do you get best line in the NFL from that? Could they improve that much? In fairyland. I think we just hope for middle of the pack and no more injuries. That will still be massive improvement from the Ole approach from last year.

Luke has a great attitude, keeps his head down, and has a strong drive to win! Go Bucs!!

  13. Destinjohnny Says:

Love his energy, but man I just don’t see it?
There is this thing called game film right?
He has gotten better I’ll give him that.
But he isn’t on the same planet as TW

  14. SlyPirate Says:

I’m hoping xavier delgado can develop into a solid LG. He could be a beast a year to get to NFL speed and scheme and an off year to gain strength. If he develops, the OL is complete.

  15. Cobraboy Says:

    The hopium pipe is shared.

    What if, what if…?

A few #1s OL vs #2s DL in PS, while offers “hope” is meaningless now. That said, Barton & Co. did get after people on the ground…so far.

The real test is against the DeadSkins.

    Hopium is good…until it isn’t.

  16. Badbucs Says:

    Exactly Cobra. Lol.

  17. My Momma Says:

He has had problems with speed rushers. Aiden Hutchinson exposed him last year. He simply isn’t as athletic as Wirfs. I am looking forward to seeing how much he improves.

  18. JTHV Says:

My memory may be fuzzy but when the Bucs drafted Luke they did so with intention of playing tackle. Due to poor guard play, they experimented with him there and he was so bad fans wanted him gone … without remembering the plan was right tackle all along, now he’s a stud.

Another stellar draft choice by Licht and his personnel department.

  19. The Fighting Schianoes Says:

He’s the same size as Lane Johnson, with a couple inches shorter arms being the only difference. I think we have bookend tackles for a long time folks.

  20. matthew a veal Says:

wirfs, barton, Luke and Mauch are a lot of draft capital, more than one should be all pro
