Jamel Dean Picks One Rookie Standout

August 2nd, 2024

Jalen McMillan

No hesitation from the Buccaneeers’ No. 1 cornerback.

Engergizing stuff today from Jamel Dean at One Buc Palace.

There’s been lots of love flowing for third-round pick rookie receiver Jalen McMillan. That doesn’t surprise Joe. Rookies are usually gassed up to media unless it’s impossible because they’re play is so horrendous on the training camp fields.

Today, however, Joe liked a response from Dean, who was asked to name a rookie on either side of the ball that looks special to him.

He went right for McMillan and that’s the only person he singled out.

“The rookie receiver, J-Mac, you know he’s coming along pretty good. I feel like he’s going to be a great addition to our offense,” Dean said.

Dean did mention the group of defensive backs in his room, “stressed out rookie corners” that he says remind him of himself back in 2019. But he likes how their overall play and approach.

Joe followed up to ask Dean if McMillan reminds him of any other receiver around the league.

“No, for the most part, he got his own style, which I can appreciate,” Dean said.

I may be a training camp fiend but looks like the bucs have one of if not the best/deepest receiving core.

Baker taking us to the bowl for sure

McMillan was a great pick! One of the big reasons for the Bucs success during their Super Bowl year was having three top tier WR targets for Brady to choose from. It was pick your poison. If J-Mac can break out as as rookie, that puts us in a great position to be successful on offense.

Reminds me of Godwin so far.
