Is It “Unnerving” For Todd Bowles To Play Kyle Trask?

August 24th, 2024

Backs up backup QB.

Don’t run smack about Kyle Trask around Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

Today in his day-after presser, Bowles was pressed about backup quarterbacks, specifically former second-round pick Kyle Trask.

For the hysterical out there — you know the type — who honestly believe Trask might be named Bucs starter, Bowles said today Trask is backing up Mayfield. So there.

Trask has but 10 pas attempts in the regular season since he was selected in the 2021 draft.

Armed with that knowledge, Bowles was asked if it is “unnerving” that the Bucs may have to turn to a guy who basically has no experience through three seasons.

That didn’t seem to sit well with Bowles.

“Just because you are experienced doesn’t mean you are good,” Bowles said. “You might know the playbook but if you can’t carry out the plays it doesn’t make it any better.”

Early in his presser, Bowles lauded Trask.

“He’s confident,” Bowles said. “He makes the right reads. He makes plays. We have a lot of trust in him.

“We will not have any problem playing him.”

Joe will tell you right now, what is really “unnerving” is if Mayfield goes down. Joe doesn’t give a crap who the backup is. The season is pretty much shot if that happens.

Now that is “unnerving.”

  1. TampaBayBucFan Says:

So….here is what we learned from the 3 “worthless” preseason games.

Trask is probably a capable backup QB
Special teams coverage and returns are still lacking
We probably don’t have much of a pass rush
We will likely get good production out of our first 4 draft picks……Barton,Braswell, Smith, McMillan & Irving
    Our running game is better
We have a very, very deep WR corps
    Payne Durham is developing
The strategy of not playing starters worked in so far as avoiding injury
Chase McLaughlin can still make a 50 yard FG
We don’t miss Myrpn or Byron

So……we look forward to next year’s worthless preseason games.

  2. Lt. Dan Says:

I’m neither a fan of or a hater of Kyle Trask. Based on what I’ve seen from him this preseason – I think the Bucs could do a lot worse at the back up QB position. He does not embarrass himself.

  3. TampaBayBucFan Says:

    Sorry first 5 picks

  4. Beeej Says:

They should have played him in the Carolina game at the end of the season when Baker was clearly too hurt to be on the field

  5. R O Says:

Its most likely the same thing for 29 out of the 32 Teams. This is a non story.

  6. Knothead71 Says:

    @Beeej
I agree. I think it would have been a good move to let Trask gain some experience in a real game situation.
Mayfield was no where near 100%.
If memory serves the Bucs won the game 9 to 0 by kicking 3 field goals. Not exactly an offensive explosion.

  7. JustVisiting Says:

I’m with Beej and Knothead on this one.

Weigh the possible concern of Trask throwing a pick6 and the potential of missing the playoffs, it’s hard to bench Mayfield. I probably would have started Trask too, but I get the decision.

  9. John Sinclear Says:

Joe – Here’s an idea. Why don’t you follow “The Turk” around Monday morning and ask the players that made the team what they think about those “worthless pre-season games”? Then ask the guys that got cut the same question.

  10. JCLV Says:

Sure, in the biggest game of the year for the Bucs, turn to the guy who has only thrown a handful of passes in his entire career.

  11. Pewter Power Says:

It is unnerving to watch him play

  12. KABucs Says:

On the touchdown pass from Kyle Trask to Justin Miller, notice how Miller almost takes out some woman in pink who has her back to the play. I don’t think you should be allowed to have a sideline pass and be down on the field if you’re not actually watching any part of the game, especially with the team in the Red Zone about to score. Get her out of there! She doesn’t seem to be serving any purpose… at least at that moment, other than gabbing. She probably isn’t even a Bucs fan…. or football fan even.

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Is It “Unnerving” For Todd Bowles To Play Kyle Trask?’

Todd … “He’s confident. He makes the right reads. He makes plays. We have a lot of trust in him. We will not have any problem playing him.”

I can see why that question ‘didn’t seem to sit well with Bowles’. The word ‘unnerving’ kinda gives the intent away?

Kyle Trask acquitted himself quite well last night IMO. Couldn’t disagree more with your ‘bottom line’ Joe … ‘what is really “unnerving” is if Mayfield goes down. Joe doesn’t give a crap who the backup is. The season is pretty much shot if that happens.’

Kinda tells me that you have a very negative view of the REST of this TEAM (beyond Mayfield), not just Kyle Trask. JL & TB are building a TEAM that’s far more BALANCED than any we’ve had in at least the past 20 years. I believe that we’re still probably about 1 year away from what they REALLY want, but we’re very close IMO. Ultimately this will be a TEAM that can be led by a ‘game manager type QB’ (which IMO is precisely what Baker is) and kick the snot out of opponents using an efficient passing game AND running game, excellent defense & quality S/Ts. The pieces are coming together, and Baker is just one of them.

  14. Defense Rules Says:

Oh and BTW Joe, for anyone who didn’t see that sack that Chris Braswell got in the 1st half of last night’s game, that’s what I call EXPLOSION. He’s listed with 4.60 speed in the 40, but his impressive 1.59 speed in the 10-yard at the Combine was what was on display last night.

Brought back memory of something I’d read about Chris before he was drafted …

‘One thing that consistently stood out was Braswell had an explosive closing burst to the quarterback with impressive short-area acceleration. The more you watch Braswell the more you appreciate his natural strength and explosive power, and those almost always transition effectively to the next level.’

  15. shelly Says:

So a moron reporter asks Bowles if it is “unnerving” to play Trask and Joe writes a headline reading as if BOWLES said it is “unnerving” to play Trask. Stay classy, Joe. That’s absolutely not what was written here. –Joe

  16. Scott Says:

Season is not over if Mayfield goes down. He’s not carrying the team by any means. He’s above average top 12 guy and all but if Trask plays decent we should be fine.

  17. shelly Says:

“Joe will tell you right now, what is really ‘unnerving’ is if Mayfield goes down.”

Even more unnerving is the prospect of Trask coming in and making fools of many, right Joe?

  18. shelly Says:

I’ll tell you what’s really going on here. A lot of people – they know who they are – have invested 3 full seasons trashing Trask at every opportunity and are now terrified of being exposed – once again – for their faulty quarterback prognostication.
Joe writes what Joe sees and thinks. You have a problem with that yet visit the website day after day. Sounds like you are among those who invest full seasons trashing Joe while simultaneously unable to curb your JoeBucsFan addiction. Good luck this season. Go Bucs! –Joe

  19. Knothead71 Says:

    @74 Bucs Fan
I come at it from the opposite angle.
Imagine if Carolina had scored just 2 touchdowns. The Bucs still would have missed the playoffs.
Does an injured Mayfield give the team a better chance to win than a healthy Trask? Evidently Coach Bowles thinks Mayfield was the best option and I’m certainly not qualified to try and change his mind. I just think Trask at 100% is better than Mayfield at, say 75%.
This is all strictly my opinion. And I am not expert.

  20. Show Me the TDs Says:

@Shelly. You couldn’t be more correct! “Someone” writes fairly well, can quote national football reporters and beat a dead horse to death, but doesn’t have football knowledge that’s any better than the average fan.

  21. Trask To The Future Says:

Mayfield won’t need to go down for this season to be unnerving. You wait and see. Mayfield will regress. He’ll have many more games again where he struggles to throw for 100 yards in the first half and stalls the offense.

He’ll continue to struggle to beat teams with a winning record… again.

I don’t care if Trask ends up getting cut, Mayfield has to be one of the most overrated Bucs in franchise history.

Mayfield is NOT elite. Far from it. This season he’ll be exposed. Buckle up.

  22. Trask To The Future Says:

    Defense Rules,

Joe is a nole, he’s hated Trask from day one.
The Joes did not attend either school. Archives here (you know, facts) say Joe wanted the Bucs to draft a QB to stick into the Brady-Arians-Moore-Christensen quarterback incubator.–Joe

  23. Mike S Says:

113 RTG is not good enough for Joe? In limited opportunity he keeps getting better and better. Imagine if he got actual playing time?

  24. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

In the end, Kyle Trask will eventually get his shot, whether in Tampa or elsewhere. That’s when we’ll find out about him.

At this point, the only thing that could actually create a QB controversy in Tampa is if Baker does poorly…but Bowles will never yank him for playing poorly. He’s the kind of guy to stick with a plan no matter what it costs the team.

For what it is worth…I’m feeling pretty good about Baker right now. He’s earned that so far.

My only gripe with the team going into this season is the lack of game time in the preseason. If it doesn’t affect the play in the regular season, it won’t matter.

I just have to accept that we can’t open the presents till Christmas (first game I mean).

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

One down side though…is that preseason did nothing to increase Kyle’s trade value.

  26. Brian in St Pete Says:

Frankly it’s a good thing if your primary backup of the last few seasons has very little experience. Plus, in reality, if just about any backup in the league has to play for an extended time, that team probably isn’t going anywhere anywhere anyway, so…

  27. Mike S Says:

Trask completed 65% of his passes this preseason.

    He’s ready.

Post on my link for the Buccaneers article detail.

Trask will have a job next year. The question is with what team?

  28. Joe Says:

Even more unnerving is the prospect of Trask coming in and making fools of many, right Joe?

If you are comfortable with a backup quarterback leading you to a Super Bowl, well, you have significant more faith than Joe ever will.

  29. GoneGator Says:

I like Trask much more than his deluded fans who turn everything into a big conspiracy or a Mayfield hate fest..

He seems to be a great teammate and I think he’d do a decent job if he has to play.

  30. SlyPirate Says:

We are debating a backup QB … LOL

How spoiled are we getting with this roster?
    Thank you Licht.

    BTW …
    TampaBayBucFan Says:
So….here is what we learned from the 3 “worthless” preseason games.
We probably don’t have much of a pass rush

Oh buddy, you’re going to be happily very very wrong. Bucs kept the rush under wraps. I think we’ll have one of the league’s best.

  31. Bucsfan Says:

Sorry Joe , but football is a TEAM sport and if you have a quality TEAM you can absolutely win the big game with a backup-see Kurt Warner and Jeff Hostetler as prime examples.

  32. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘If you are comfortable with a backup quarterback leading you to a Super Bowl, well, you have significant more faith than Joe ever will.’

I have a hunch Joe that you’re old enough to remember the Miami Dolphins 1972 season (just guessing mind you).

That team achieved the only perfect season in NFL history as you surely know. Significantly, starting QB Bob Griese broke his ankle in week 5, leaving 38-year-old backup QB Earl Morrall to start the remainder of the regular season (though Griese relieved Morrall in the 2nd half of the AFC Championship Game and started Super Bowl VII).

The Dolphins went 14–0 in the regular season and won all 3 postseason games to finish 17–0, the only undefeated & untied season in NFL history. Miami led the league in total offense, total defense, scoring offense, and scoring defense, the only team ever to do so.

Jiminy Christmas. Earl Morrall had been an All-Pro quarterback and might have been the best backup QB in the game. No comparison. –Joe

Hmmm, I wonder how that season would’ve ended if Don Shula had thought like you Joe when his starting QB broke his ankle in Game 5 … ‘Oh no, we’re totally screwed now. No way a backup QB can lead us to the playoffs’.

And BTW, Earl Morrall did get a little ‘help from his friends’ as they say. That TEAM had NINE members—Csonka, Morris, Warfield, Little, Norm Evans, Buoniconti, Stanfill, Anderson, and Scott—who were selected to the Pro Bowl, and Little, Morrall, Stanfill, and Anderson were named first-team All-Pro.

  33. Defense Rules Says:

Shelly … I’ve gotta learn to type faster or write less. You beat me. Earl Morrall’s story is just legendary.

  34. Trask To The Future Says:

The Joes are praying Gator Trask doesn’t succeed. They spent years propping up a terrible Jameis until the Glazers finally forced their hand. It would be one of the great, most captivating stories in the NFL if Trask emerged as a stud. Joe would love it. Drama. Excitement. Wins!–Joe

  37. Lightningvinny Says:

Been reading Joe for a long time , a great sight for info and banter but I have to respond to a couple things on this thread,,,
    1) Trask is our back up, if he has to play because Baker gets hurt then I will root for him, big time . He may or may not play well. Remember this is pre season and D coaches run vanilla Ds that are much easier to navigate . If I recall a while back Bruce Gradkowski was really great in the pre season.
    2) I personally would rather have Baker at 70% then Trask coming in , never have started a game , thrown into a one or done scenario.
    3) Didn’t Baker have like a million dollars on the line that game? (If he could walk , he was playing )
    4) Go Bucs,,, whoever is playing

  38. David Says:

    Go Bucs

  39. Joe Says:

    Thank you Vinny! 👍

  40. Beeej Says:

Is this the final season of his rookie contract? I guess the tell will be if they re-sign him

  41. Durango 95 Says:

Joe isn’t taking any guff from the Traskatillians or anyone else today. Very happy to see Trask play well last night. Probably his best outing ever as a Buccaneer. Makes me wonder what the future holds for him in this league. Perennial backup would be my guess. No shame in that.

  42. Jeffs grandpa Says:

    Trask bois are full hot

  43. Bucsmarley Says:

I reserve to hold judgment until the kid gets a shot playing with the starters. No one thought purdy would be anything and with a strong supporting cast I truly believe many Trask haters would be surprised. Once again to the haters. Support your players not trash them sitting on your couch thinking your the best coach or GM 😂😂😂

  44. Beeej Says:

Hopefully Baker will get dinged up earlier in the year, and the kid will get a chance in not such a serious game

  45. drdneast Says:

Shelly, if you and any other blinded Gators fan thinks Trask is a capable backup just because he doesn’t throw an INT in the game he also didn’t throw for over a 141 yards in four quarters of action and only had a 10 percent success rate on converting third downs against a bunch of subs after three seasons in the NFL. Look what Mac Jones did against us last week with only three seasons in the NFL. I’m with Joe, if Mayfield goes out for more than two games the Bucs are in a lot of trouble.

  46. drdneast Says:

If Trask goes in during the regular season when real bullets are flying you are going to hear the sound of a lot of Buc fans clapping with one hand.

  47. Knothead71 Says:

Now hang on just a second. It was reported right here, on this here corner of the internet last year at the end of training camp that Trask was very close to practicing just as well as Mayfield. In my mind if Trask is “close” to Mayfield when both are healthy then it only makes sense that Trask would be the better option if he is at 100% and Mayfield is at 70%.
I completely disagree that the season is over if Mayfield goes down and Trask comes in. As posted above, this is a team sport and the Bucs are becoming a dang good team.
Now, I’m not a Trask fan or a Mayfield fan and I don’t dislike either of them. I’m a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. Whoever the quarterback is at the time is my favorite quarterback in the league.
But let’s not pretend that over the course of a year Trask has lost all abilities to play the position. Mayfield has not progressed that much either. We’ll be fine with either of our quarterbacks in the game.

  48. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

LOL I’m enjoying the Trask haters being salty salty salty. They thought Wolford beating him out was a forgone conclusion only now to have Trask drop a 113 on them and seal up the job while Wolford yet again can’t survive a few qtrs of preseason football at a position the league goes at great lengths to protect.

Trask is not finished this year sticking a dagger in their hearts.

Bring on 2024 boyos. Buckle up it’s going to be fun.

  49. Joe in Michigan Says:

Trask played good. It was a preseason game, MPTF. As far as I know, there is no Preseason Hall of Fame in Canton. Get a grip.

  50. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

Ok all you NFL executives, take it easy on Trask. Did he do alright? Meh.. Will he play if Baker goes down? The rest of that game. And Jason will be burning up the phone. Hahaha 😂 Trust they don’t have in Trash I mean Trask haha. The honest truth is what I tell ya. And more truth what’s his name Gabbert would have been the same. We ain’t had a backup that could do to good in a long time. Besides Brady we haven’t really had a qb other than Baker get us past the first playoff game since Brad Johnson.

  51. Usfbuc Says:

I don’t see the cause for controversy here. Most coaches, team management, players all hope their backup QB never sees the field. This is normal, backups are backups for a reason.

I do agree though with some who have pointed out that the Bucs are building a great all around team. They did a fantastic job of raising the floor of the team this offseason. I think our only areas of concern are the lines on both sides of the ball. I think both sets of starters are better but it feels like we don’t have great depth on either line.

  52. Craig Says:

Watching too much. Preseason football make@ Trask look like a top backup. Intro cases, at lea@tequal tothe starters.

  53. Oneilbuc Says:

I want Baker or no other player to get hurt now and yes I don’t understand this if Baker goes down the season over. Baker ain’t carrying this offense at all that’s why people want a running game because Baker can’t carry a team at all if he could he would still be in Cleveland , LA or Carolina. I hope the bucs OC ain’t trying to let Baker carry the offense because he can’t. Let him be a game manager and the bucs will be ok . If they try to make him Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow it will be a losing season.

  54. Gipper Says:

Trask is on the team. Most Bucs fans wish him well and hope that he doesn’t have to fill in for an injured Baker. The facts are that NFL QB’s get hurt frequently and that Trask is likely to see playing time this year. When he does, again, we will wish him well.

  55. Lightningvinny Says:

So I returned from Vegas last week and I got the Bucs at 90-1 at Caesar’s ,,, I’ll take that all day long,, it’s pot odds at 90-1 ,,, for some reason the falcons are 30-1 ,,, By the same token I have Bucs 4-1 to win division,, the 3 in a row champs ,, again pot odds ,,, Keep giving the Bucs that chip on the shoulder!!
On another note ,, my bud is a huge huge Brown fan, he said before last year started he would take Baker (and his salary , and all the picks ) over Watson , for what it’s worth

  56. Wyatt Says:

There are no trask lovers, only trask haters. Yall act like we are in love with Trask just because we are not constantly crapping on the guy for no reason. Seriously why all the hate. It’s like you all want him to fail. You All say he is a terrible backup. But based on what evidence. He’s played 10 snaps in the nfl and had a dropped touchdown. In preason he’s only played with second and third string players and has no time to throw. Many dropped passes. So once again no evidence that he is this terrible backup yall make hime out to be.. Tom brady would also look bad playing with third string and no time to throw. All we are saying is give him more reps with the starters. Heaven forbid we support a player on our team. And don’t give me the he couldn’t beat out gabbert argument. There was no competition for the second string spot. Brady wanted a veteran qb. Always has. End of story.

  57. Robbie Says:

Lol still throwing nothing but insults at that kid and his career, you heard what the coaches are saying, the GM is saying and some of you think you know what you’re talking about, if you did you’d be out there coaching a team to the super bowl but you type your opinions no matter how good he plays or what anyone with something positive has to say about him. Find someone else to pick on, if Baker goes down TRASK IS OUR QB and I can’t wait to watch the kid to stir that into your morning cup of joe!!

  58. GoneGator Says:

IF we can establish a consistent run game I can definitely see us winning some games with Kyle. Hope it’s not necessary but he’s looked pretty steady to me and made some really really nice throws last night.

  59. Mike Says:

I think trask has done a great job proving himself, remember he hasn’t been able to play with the starters so considering that I think he will will be successful when he is called on

  60. BAKERSBucs says Says:

Defense rules says I beg to differ with u since the minute mayfield got to Tampa he has brought the juice with him this team has been on a very positive movement since his arrival to this team & including the fans IMO.in life some people r just charismatic ask the browns fans so I wud say u b wrong it is bout 1 person influencing the entire franchise I will say Trask does not have that kind of affect on me as a fan

  61. BAKERSBucs says Says:

Trask this Trask that didn’t we just pay mayfield to run this offense how stupid is this post as far as I am concerned Baker most definitely can carry this team unlike some of u knuckleheads that say he can’t that’s why he got paid cud u imagine if he got 50 mill a year oh my the baker haters wud lose their little p-brains

  62. MadMax Says:

Trask did a good job. We will need him if something happens to Baker. GJ Trask.

  63. Beeej Says:

Nobody knew who Cooper Rush was until Dak missed a few games

  64. Debbie⁴ Says:

Some people fail to understand the concept of preseason games. It is a tool to see who is capable of joining the team, to see if they understand the game plan, and and adjust cleanly. Note the lower price for tickets. The preseason is just that. Not part of the season or stats. We won’t know the roster until next week. Tuesday I believe. The season games for Bucs start in September. Preseason game is a promo name for a practice game with an opponent. Get a grip people.

  65. Joe Says:

There are no trask lovers, only trask haters.

New to these parts, eh? 🙂

  66. Nope Says:

I also support any QB that starts for us because I am a fan. Do not need another reason.

Loved all of the discussions here.

    Go Bucs!!

  68. Oz Len Says:

Colt McCOy just retired. Trask, with a little luck has the chance to become that kind of player and have a long, mundane, but profitable career. Maybe even a Brian Hoyer. He was another Brady backup the hung around a long time. Everyone loves those guy but you seldom win with them. Hoyer an McCoy were both ex-Browns. If I was Trask, I would put them on my speed dial.

  69. gp Says:

DR beat me to what I would have posted.
I don’t want Trask to be starting in the current configuration, but I won’t be heading to the bridge to jump off if he has to.
I think JL has built one hell of a team.
My only concern is whether Bowles can make the best of it.

  70. gp Says:

BTW, I quit reading the rest of the nonsensical comments about half way through.
Sorry, just not worth my time.
    69 and counting

  71. gp Says:

Honestly, this may be the best group of talent that Bowles has ever coached.
If he can’t win with this group of players, He needs to exit, stage left!

If you are comfortable with a backup quarterback leading you to a Super Bowl, well, you have significant more faith than Joe ever will.

A back up / old timer came in and played just well enough to keep the 72 Dolphins Perfect.

2001 a sixth round pick came in game 2 due to an injury and walked out with a Ring.

It’s football and on any given day…

Heck just yesterday the QB on the the worse team in 2023 had an opening drive going 6-8 for 70 yards, a fourth down conversion, red zone passing TD and passer rating of 140. Played like he just might overtake Mayfield as the 3rd best QB in the NFC South.

  74. RamblingRhino Says:

“It would be one of the great, most captivating stories in the NFL if Trask emerged as a stud. Joe would love it. Drama. Excitement. Wins!–Joe”

And you would go out of your way to find as many faults as you can in everyplay he has.

I will say it now, I hope we resign Trask to a second contract. To be here when and if Baker is injured, or his play dictates we need a change. Or we could always just re-sign the “Savior” ” America’s QB”….

  75. Conner50 Says:

Joe I know your a huge fsu fan boi and think Baker Mayfield is all that and a bag of chips. But I’ll have you know Trask will be ready to play and would be willing to bet he will play extremely good when he does get the chance. He’s done it his entire career when he’s gotten the opportunity. You wouldn’t know cause your in love with baker like most of the guys on this site. Don’t get me wrong I like Baker and I’m hoping he’s not as inconsistent as much as he was last year, oh and can score on the first drive like a real franchise guy. If he goes down though dont be surprised if Trask wins games

  76. Joe in Michigan Says:

Yes, Vinny. Let’s put Trask in the Preseason Hall of Fame!!!!!!!! 🙄

  77. Dave Pear Says:

Wow. The Glennon fan club really spraying JBF with lots of syrup.

The whole “hate” thing is ludicrous. No one here knows Glennon from a bag of socks. Hard to hate someone you don’t know. By all appearances, he’s a heck of a good dude. By all appearances, he’s good for maybe one TD per game and fails to elevate his teammates against future plumbers and electricians. What he has proven to the only people who matter (coaches, players, management) is that a one-armed, one-legged Mayfield gives the Bucs a better chance to win. And that he can reliably hold a clipboard. And he still throws those puffcake lobs more than rifling the rock.

He’s proven he is at best a backup QB in the NFL. That’s not hate. That’s what Todd and Jason believe.

  78. Conner50 Says:

    Dave Pear
You bash Todd Bowles every chance you get and say he’s not fit for head coach, but now you say his evaluation of Trask is spot on at second string. Also Jason Licht is confident in Kyle if Baker goes down, confident that he can win games that’s why he picked him in the draft to begin with. Seriously doubt that Licht thinks the guy he took in the second round couldn’t be the guy. You sir don’t know football whatsoever

Dave Pear Says: “He’s proven he is at best a backup QB in the NFL. That’s what Todd and Jason believe.”

Never seen Todd or Jason say that anywhere. Give us a link to where Todd or Jason said that. Looking forward to it! Thanks!

    @Joe in Michigan

When you respond to a comment but avoiding the comment it makes you look really dumb. Try harder.

  81. Vinny l r Says:

Joe – “If you are comfortable with a backup quarterback leading you to a Super Bowl, well, you have significant more faith than Joe ever will.”

Huh? There are many backup quarterbacks who came in and led their team to the Super Bowl. Off the top of my head -> Brady, Favre, Warner, Purdy. There are many more too.

  82. Oneilbuc Says:

Garden Michew led the Colts to a 10 win season and made the playoffs when their starter went down. If Baker gets hurt Joe and the the Baker fan boys are going to hope the team lose as long as Trask is playing watch and see!! Lol 🤣🤣

  83. Oneilbuc Says:

I have never seen are heard that Baker was just better than Trask last training camp. Not even Joe has said it and he can’t stand Trask even Jason Licht said that you can make a argument that Trask out played Baker Mayfield last year. The reason why Trask is not the starter is because Bowles didn’t draft him BA did . They had to gift Baker the staring job he didn’t earn it and that’s why some people on here rather Trask to start over Baker last year. And if Baker regress they’re going to want Trask to play because of that training camp last season and even this year. You can’t fool people about Trask because he’s playing with the second strang and third strang players . People know he will be much better with the starters just like last year. And I know how you and the people on here love to call people Trask fans or gator fans to supress the truth. That’s how you try to get people to ignore the truth about the fake competition and how Trask out played Baker Mayfield last year so you call us Trask fans lol 🤣🤣 but that junk don’t work on me. I can guarantee if Trask played for another team not one bucs fan will care how he’s playing or if he played bad last training camp where he looked like Zach Wilson no one would be saying let’s see what Trask can do.

  84. Shane Callahan Says:

Trask had a good game. I’m happy for him. Nobody is worried about him upstaging the Heisman winner, #1 draft pick, and #1 college QB since 2000 according to SI. Nobody hates on Trask, but there’s a lot of Traskers hating on Mayfield for no other reason besides petty jealousy. Stop it, please, and root for your team.

  85. Shane Callahan Says:

Once again, the idea that management and coaching staff would start a shorter and older QB over a superior Trask is an absurd opinion. It is completely illogical.

  86. Shane Callahan Says:

If the defense could’ve stopped Goff, this team would’ve been in the NFC Championship for goodness sakes. The playcaller and team overall look much improved. Stay healthy; go Bucs!

Idc what SI says baker definitely isn’t the best college quarterback since 2000. Tebow, Newton, Manziel, etc were all better in their college careers

  88. Dave Pear Says:

Todd is the head coach. He makes the decisions. All these beefs in support of Glennon get even more hilarious.

The facts are facts. Todd has an overall losing record as a head coach and has accomplished that with two different franchises, including playoffs. He wants to run the ball and has overseen the worst run game in the league over the last 34 regular season games. His players regularly bust their zone assignments and make the same mistakes repeatedly.

    Those are facts.

Also a fact – he makes the decisions on who the starting QB is. Anyone suggesting that he knowingly starts the inferior player should in their next breath be demanding Todd be fired.

This isn’t an argument about football, it’s about performance evaluation. Anyone suggesting that Glennon has outperformed Mayfield is eating too many mushrooms.

    Yell at Todd. He decides.

  89. Oneilbuc Says:

Shane. The team still had a chance but Baker threw a pick on his second throw this is why I look at Baker the way I do . Our defense was ranked 7th in total defense and that includes scoring. The definition of scoring defense is judged on how many points do the defense gives up . I’m not saying you can’t win with Baker Mayfield but to win with Baker you have to let him be a game manager and it’s nothing wrong with that. Golf is a game manager and that’s all you really need for a quarterback to be. Brady has been the labeled the goat but when you go back and look at the teams he had and the play calling he was a game manager and he’s a hall of famer. Brady by himself couldn’t take over a game like Mahomes because he couldn’t run. So he needed every one on the offense to play good because he couldn’t make plays with his legs. The Superbowls we won all but 1 it was the defense that closed them games out. So it ain’t nothing wrong with being a game manager!!

  90. Oneilbuc Says:

Shane. And once the season starts I don’t think no real bucs fan is going to hope Baker plays bad or the bucs lose. I was rooting for Baker Mayfield last season because he’s the bucs staring quarterback. And I’m going to hope he plays better than last year. That’s what I want to see from Baker Mayfield but at the same time I’m not going to put on blinders for him either. If he plays good I will say he played good if plays bad I will say he played bad . I’ve never blamed him for the Texans game. I said it wasn’t his fault why we lost that game. I hope Baker ball out this year I’m not rooting against Baker Mayfield like people rooting against Trask if Baker goes down. Why not just root for both quarterbacks if they play? And yes I would love for the bucs to draft a quarterback in developed him like all the other franchises do .

  91. Conner50 Says:

    Dave Pear
What’s hilarious is you talking all the smack about Todd Bowles every chance you get but think his evaluation of players is spot on.

  92. Dave Pear Says:

Conner, you must be illiterate. None of that is smack – smack is made up BS. I am stating facts about Todd. And he picks who starts. Not me.

    That’s a fact.

  93. Lightningvinny Says:

Jeeeze we will all root for our back up to come in and lead us to victory if called upon but again,,, this is the preseason ,, Trask played well , even real well this preseason,,, but you know who is having a hell of a game right now as we speak (in pre season), Zach Wilson( well over 200 yards) , do we want him to start for us,, so let’s remember it’s pre season!

  94. Dave Pear Says:

No one excepting a few poster gazers want Glennon to start.
