Gerald McCoy Takes A Jab At The Dixie Chicks

August 16th, 2024

Shot fired.

With the exception of ProFootballTalk.com, CBS and SI.com (well, one guy at SI.com), it seems the national media is fully in love with the Dixie Chicks.

When oh when did Kirk Cousins morph into Peyton Manning? Cousins was often roundly ridiculed for years for not being a big-game player. So he goes to Atlanta and all of a sudden the same folks who used to mock him endlessly now believe he will pull a Tom Brady and lift an NFC South team from the ashes to the Super Bowl in his first season in Billy Sherman’s favorite town?

Why? How?

Joe isn’t sold on the Dixie Chicks. Every person who thinks Cousins is going to be a savior in Atlanta fully ignores he is trying to recover from a blown Achilles at 36 while playing on turf.

One reason some folks aren’t high on Atlanta is that their defense is atrocious. Or was.

Wednesday they traded for Matt Judon, who is an above average edge rusher. Yesterday, the Dixie Chicks signed Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons.

BSPN put a graphic on Twitter to celebrate the new stud defenders for the Dixie Chicks and former Bucs stud Gerald McCoy was having none of it.

Simply put, the acquisitions of Judon and Simmons left GMC unimpressed.

@Geraldini93: All that for the Bucs to win the division again!! 🤷🏾‍♂️

Boom!

Joe thinks the Dixie Chicks are sitting on a potential ticking time bomb. If Cousins and his repaired Achilles struggle out of the gate, what do you think Dixie Chicks fans will be screaming for? Screaming!

Joe is confident if Cousins is not sharp to open the season and the Dixie Chicks suffer a couple of losses, Bucs fans all the way in Sand Key will be able to hear Atlanta fans hollering for Michael Penix.

Then Atlanta will be mired in a good old-fashioned, drama-filled quarterback controversy.

That will be fun!

  1. Crickett Baker Says:

Yeah, but not only Penix looked great, but he threw to two of our players who were then on his college team. I do not believe we would be too happy if he had to play.

  2. Dave Pear Says:

Fittingly, GMC’s only 4th quarter play to win a game in crunch time came against Atlanta, when he had hold of Matt Ryan’s ankle on a 4th down when the Bucs were trying to collapse. Otherwise, GMC was a ghost in 4th quarters.

JPP went ballistic in 2019 when GMC would tap out in the 4th quarter.

    Suh.

The Falcons are making a mistake going all in. Have they been reading their press clippings and think they can win it all with a garbage Oline and a mediocre Dline? Even with those additions their defense still doesn’t come close to ours. And can you name their offensive weapons? Pitts, London? Robinson is good but he can’t run against us.
I see us sweeping the division. If our running game is as good as it looked in the first worthless preseason game, I expect us to win 14 or 15 games.
If our young guns, YaYa and Kancey can go and Braswell steps up, watch out 72 Dolphins!

  4. ATLBuc Says:

I forgot about one factor and its a big IF. If Tykee Smith can stop those over the middle passes that we couldnt stop last season

  5. LetsBucs Says:

The Falcons mistake is that they are going all in way too soon. They overturned their entire coaching staff. They made so many changes.

They put an enormous amount of pressure on themselves and they don’t have an easy start to the Season facing the Steelers (Yes, not a defence you want to face while things may not be geeling yet), the Chiefs, the Eagles and both us and the Saints. (Don’t underestimate divisional games EVER)

For me this is a shaky road, there’s a pot of gold at the end of it, but they just as well could be dealing mentally with the situation we had after 3-7 last year. And not sure they have the same amount of charachter players and staff to dig them out of it. In addition more pressure through excpectations and the whole Cousins/Penix thing looming over it.

  6. heyjude Says:

Good for McCoy. He is our Batman!

The Falcons are grasping at straws. Cousins may not even be playing by mid-season. And the sports media will still be talking about him.

Crickett – Agreed. We don’t want Penix to play against us.

  7. ATLBUC Says:

One thing we know from experience about a Rah coached team is that they are undisciplined. That was borne out Saturday by the procedure and offside penalties.

If JTS and Ya are injured why not bring Shaq back?

  8. HC Grover Says:

    Penix might be good.

  9. ATLBUC Says:

When a new coach is hired it takes time for the players to develop trust in him. I chuckle when I think about the turmoil in that locker room after a possible 0-3 start.
By that time half the players and fans will want Penix and half will want Cousins. Actually, some in that fan base want Penix now. Those left handed darts remind them of Vick.

  10. George R Says:

Can’t fault them for trying. If the Bucs signed Judon and Simmons people would start planning a boat parade.

  11. Richard Dickson Says:

I think the general feeling is that the division is so bad, the best QB wins it.

  12. orlbucfan Says:

Glad to see GMC getting a little respect on here (even if he is retired). That’s a switch.

  13. BucU Says:

I’m glad most of you aren’t concerned about ATL’s big signings but I sure am.

  14. Fan of the South Says:

Pretty favorable odds that both Bucs and Falcons will lose a couple games early. Don’t need to be clairvoyant like some of the hacks here to be able to see it.

Some have gazed into the crystal ball and have the idea that the ATL O Line is garbage. Most others have them ranked in the Second Tier at the end of 2023 with Captions of Great but not Elite while the Bucs finished in Tier 4 as Average but Forgettable along with N.E and WASH. With Bucs new addition they may jump a tier but I don’t see them going to Elite in one season.

Even if Cousins mechanics are not good there is living proof that 4000 yards of passing can be accomplished without it.

What is McCoy going to say besides anything positive? Really?

Only upside for Bucs fans is with the Falcons current additions they can get an extra 10 bucks on a $100 bet that was not there yesterday to win the Division.

Personally I see it as a 3 Horse race in the NFC South. Bucs took the Division with the same record as the Saints and the Tie Breaker. Falcons would have won it with Trask and now have Cousins. Carolina will determine who wins and averaging 15 Points a game will not do it in 2024.

  15. CTBucs Says:

Guy left us to play for the Panties. Has the same level of respect for our franchise as Canales

  16. Lombardi Lenny Says:

Please. That’s like saying no way Bucs make the playoffs b/c I think baker will get injured. Atl will def be a contender

  17. Jeffrey Becker Says:

Cousins is the kind of quarterback who’ll complete 20 straight passes, only to follow it with back to back interceptions. He’s gonna need to turn one of their targets into a justin jefferson/stefon diggs because most of his throws go to his top guy

  18. Booger Says:

I don’t blame them for trying, at this point… The NFC is looking wide TF open right now! Stafford is not getting any healthier. There is A LOT of pressure building in San Fran & none of it is very good. What if McCaffrey and Debo are banged up to boot, & then Ol’ “Purdy Boy” regresses… Throw in a few bad injuries in Detroit, & if Hurts and Smith are banged up again in Philly, with a brand new Secondary and Coaching Staff… Then, why not ATL!? The main thing that gives me pause with them is that EVERYONE is picking them… So, they’re NOT sneaking up on anyone. And that makes me like the Bucs position even, that much more… Just flying under the radar. Amazing how ‘quiet’ the media has been towards Baker though, now that he is in Tampa.

  19. SlyPirate Says:

“Joe thinks the Dixie Chicks are sitting on a potential ticking time bomb.”

    1000% YES
ATL is a paper tiger that is going to fold. Bad coaching, a slow start, injury to a key player … we’ll see it all. The wheels will come off and ATL will be limping to the end of the season.

  20. heyjude Says:

ATLBUC – Agree about Shaq. According to information on here and other media, Shaq wants to concentrate on his family now and is why he decided to retire from the Dolphins. I would love to see him back on the Bucs or even a coach, mentor. Understandably, he has to take care of his own family first.

Agreed – Booger and Jeffrey about the Falcons. So glad we have Baker!

  21. Natron Says:

Notice how quiet GMC’s departure from Carolina was…..WTF?
