Depth Chart Silliness And Notes Of Interest

August 6th, 2024

Trey Palmer smiles at Todd Bowles.

The Bucs kick off their preseason opener at Cincinnati on Saturday at 7 p.m., so the team’s preseason depth chart was released today as part of a guide for that game.

Of course, lots of fans and media will slobber over it as if it’s somehow accurate, relevant and important.

It’s not.

However, Joe is interested in how the Bucs listed rookie running back Bucky Irving and second-year running back Sean Tucker as their co-leading kick returners. Receiver Trey Palmer is listed as the top punt returner with undrafted rookie Kameron Johnson as his backup. Palmer returned 18 punts for only 115 yards at LSU in 2021.

For years, the Bucs have not prioritized the returner position, and Joe doesn’t see this year as an exception. The team attitude entering the season felt like, ‘We’ll figure it out.’

Bucs fans will learn a lot more on Saturday night.

A week and a half into training camp, and the ‘starters’ are all veterans? Shocker!

  3. Bee Says:

That “competition” for backup QB might be a shocker for the Wolford fanclub. Lol

  4. D-Rok Says:

Out of curiosity, which site can we find this depth chart on? TIA

  5. garro Says:

A few surprises to me. But as you said Joe at this point it means little. O line and D line surprised me as well as a couple of other spots.

    Go Bucs!

    @D-Rok

It’s on the official team site

    I like to slobber.

Really hoping TP10 stays at WR3, all I can think about is the TD to Scotty Miller against the Packers in the playoffs. TP10 can do that for us on every snap of every game

  9. Shane Callahan Says:

The Traskers are now going after Wolford??? Go Trask, go Wolford, go Mayfield, and the rest; go Bucs!

  10. Mike S Says:

Dave Pear – we noticed – all over Mayfield’s you know what.

I saw Rookie 1st round pick is starting at LG and not at Center. At least for now that’s their plan. I like this guy at LG more, and while sure the hopes are high for him to one day be the starting C he isn’t yet and probably shouldn’t be.

    Here’s why:

    1. Robert Hainsey is more prepared and ready.
    2. Our LG spot will be a huge hole if Barton doesn’t start there.
Who is gonna play LG if Barton is playing C? Ben Bredeson? I mean sorry but that’s not a great alternative.

    Best bet right now is:

    Wirfs – Barton – Hainsey – Mauch – Goedeke

Bredeson nothing against this guy, but he’s not ready to start imo. I think Tampa improved their O-line a lot last season, and in the coming years they’ll even improve this maybe some more. Depends how this group plays together. I’m seeing great things this year. Like Cody Mauch said, less penalties and more control of the opposing teams Defenders and we will be all set.

Maybe the errant snaps we’ve been hearing about are why they have Barton at LG.
