Chase Edmonds’ Days With Bucs May Be Over
August 27th, 2024A backup running back on last year’s worst rushing team in the NFL may have carried his last football for the Bucs.
Chase Edmonds did not make the 53-man roster for this afternoon’s 4 p.m. cutdown deadline. He has missed virtually all of training camp and preseason with an undisclosed injury.
Teams are not obligated to disclose injury information until the week of Game 1 of the regular season (next week).
Ben Levine of Pro Football Rumors points out if a player is kept on the initial 53-man roster and is then placed on injured reserve, he could be brought back after four games.
Instead, the Bucs placed Edmonds on injured reserve before allowing him to stay on the 53-man roster by today’s 4 p.m. deadline, thus effectively ending his season, per Greg Auman of FOX Sports.
Edmonds is in the final year of a two-year contract with the Bucs.
The only way the Bucs could retain Edmonds for this season is if the Bucs buy him out of his contract with an injury settlement and then the team could bring him back.
But what would Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen do with him? Edmonds has barely worked with Coen on the field. He didn’t have one padded practice this summer before getting injured.
So Joe has a hunch that Edmonds’ days with the Bucs are done.
According to multiple reports, the @Buccaneers got their homework done a day early.
Here is what you need to know about the 53-man roster and the upcoming pursuit of practice squad members.#WeAreTheKrewe | #GoBucs | @10TampaBay pic.twitter.com/drad0gNZAN

Chase was an insurance policy in case Tucker didn’t take step forward. Tucker appears ready for a role.

LOL…Ya think?
Edmonds was as good ad gone long before he was put on IR. That is a very strange thing to me but we had some rookies showing up this year and with his injury history…

I think that the writing was on the wall with Chase as soon as they got Bucky. Injuries are a players worst enemy this time of year. I thought we had something when we got him but the injury bug was his undoing. Sorry Chase..

Does that mean the same for Rakim Jarrett?
August 27th, 2024 at 8:18 am
If I’m not mistaken, you can bring up to 2 players from IR this year even if they don’t make to the initial 53 roster. I believe it’s a new rule that was made this offseason
Go Bucs

In summary Chase is done for the season. Rakim Jarrett can be activated after 4 games.

what happened to chase that he’s done for the season…?
ryan jensen part 2…?
the mysterious secret injury…
did they neuter him or something and he’s in a hospital bed in stirrups…….?
oh well, he did alright last year in late season spot duty…
a couple of the young backs we cut should be added to the practice squad….jefferson, etc…they looked decent

did a ufo snatch up dj williams?
i didn’t see him on the roster, or the cut lists…
was he beamed up ?
August 27th, 2024 at 9:25 am
@Adam he was cut. Greg Auman documented every roster cut over the past few days.

Chase may indeed be gone, but not for the reason stated in this article. A new rule this year allows you to put 2 players on IR prior to cut to 53, and those two are eligible to return after 4 games.

He’s not a bad player – but he’s just always injured.
There’s plenty of RB options out there to take that last spot that Tucker is occupying at the moment.

Samaje Perine was cut by the Broncos today. Kirwan and Miller of Movin the Chains are high on the kid.

They should’ve let him go & they should’ve held onto Williams.

If Chase Edmonds heals up, he can be brought back by releasing him, clearing waivers, and resigning him. I doubt a team would claim him off waivers. Might be useful in an emergency situation to suit up should the RB position be decimated with injuries. In the meanwhile, he can coach/mentor the youngsters.
I think a similar situation with Shepard, although he was cut, cleared waivers, and resigned to practice squad.
