CBS: Bucs Got A “Haul” This Spring

August 2nd, 2024

Another strong draft class?

The word is starting to creep out.

Last year the Bucs had a crazy productive draft class. With apologies to David Lee Roth, look at all the people here… who had an impact last year as rookies.

And most folks will say that often the biggest career jump a player makes in his second season.

The Bucs found four starters in last year’s draft, five if you count undrafted free agents.

Yesterday, Joe noticed prickly Pete Prisco of CBS on the practice fields as players, coaches and staff slowly meandered their way back into One Buc Palace after practice. After he watched the Bucs practice in pads (he’s no stranger to One Buc Palace and was here at June minicamp) he now proclaims Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht did it again.

Joe isn’t going as far as Prisco. For example, Chris Braswell has to take a few steps forward before he can start. Right now, Joe believes it would very likely be Anthony Nelson as the starting outside linebacker with José Ramirez breathing down his back until YaYa Diaby returns from his injury.

Joe has seen more plays from Ramirez than Braswell but remember the Bucs just finished only their seventh practice of the summer. With Diaby on the shelf for at least a month, hey, who knows, maybe Braswell rises up between now and then.

But Joe gets Prisco’s point and he’s right: Braswell should become a starter eventually. And it looks like Licht and his staff got another solid new draft class.

Get em Braswell….your time to shine….you, Barton and Bucky….and I believe Tykee is going to be a pleasant surprise….as will Jalen.

We got lucky those men were still available!

Excellent work by Jason Licht! Many possible starters. We have so much to look forward to.

Last night before the preseason game Jason Kelce on ESPN was giving big kudos to Tristan Wirfs and his extension contract. So many paying attention now. Feels good!

Let’s see how Ramirez and Brass do against the first string tackles instead of 2nd and 3rd string guys.

  4. garro Says:

Hard to believe all the mention of Ramirez this year and last that he has yet to log a single snap in the regular season. Also worth mentioning that despite JTS blowng chunks last year that Nelson somehow got zero starts and way less snaps.

    ???

Very glad to see both coming on strong!

    Go Bucs!

“Bucs Got A “Haul” This Spring”

More like – ‘Bucs got a draft “Haul” for 3rd year in a row’….

    McCollum
    Camarda
    Otton
    White
    Goedeke
    Diaby
    Mauch
    Kancey
    McMillan
    Smith
    Braswell
    Barton

Thats 12 starters in 3 drafts – which is VERY hard to do….. then include Bucky Irving, Trey Palmer, ST ace Josh Hayes – along with hopefuls Klein, Dennis, Durham, Ramirez and yes – still holding out hope for Logan Hall….

Take a bow Jason Licht! You are killing it with the young talent acquisition.

  8. Razor Ramone Says:

No, no, no! Keep the national drumbeat of negativity going. More Dirty Birds, more Cousins etc… I like cruising under the radar. Go Bucs!!

    🙂 👍

McMillan will eventually be a starter, he’s just stuck behind a couple All-Pros. Irving will eventually replace White. Barton, Braswell, and Smith will all start this year. And keep an eye on that UDFA ILB from FSU. Although Licht has had a few dud drafts in the past, he’s on a roll the past couple years.

    @Pickgrin

It’s truly impressive as hell. I’m more stoked for a lot of the year 2 / year 3 guys than the rookie class because that’s such a core of our starters this year.

    Braswell better eat his wheaties

  13. Jeffrey Becker Says:

I don’t see how so few experts realized we got 3 or more starters on draft day. it was pretty clear

  14. Larrd Says:

Spytek will probably get a GM job next year.
