Bucs GM Endorses Sean Tucker

August 24th, 2024

Sean Tucker (right) with the guy whose job he’s about to take (Chase Edmonds).

Joe thinks any list of the top-5 Bucs preseason surprises must include second-year running back Sean Tucker.

Invisible last season after being signed as a college free agent with a lingering heart ailment, nearly all Bucs fans lost hope that Tucker could become a special player, or even a contributor.

This summer, he’s been a menace for defenses.

After last night’s game against the Dolphins, Tucker officially closed the 2024 preseason with 21 carries for 120 yards (5.7 yards per carry) and 4 catches for 36 yards. And he threw in a solid kick return.

Behind Rachaad White and rookie Bucky Irving on the depth chart, Tucker has done enough to get carries when it counts in the regular season, Joe believes. The Bucs would be crazy not to give Tucker at least one series in early-season games just to see if he can break out.

On the WFLA-TV game broadcast last night, Tucker got a heck of an endorsement from Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht.

“Very direct, very fast. He’s very tough. He’s got great size,” Licht said of Tucker.

The former Syracuse star feels to Joe a little like former Bucs star RB Doug Martin — muscular, powerful and versatile.

The Bucs went into last season with Ke’Shawn Vaughn as their No. 3 running back. Tucker sure looks like a significant upgrade.

The dude has serious speed, and Irving has serious quickness. Love it.
    White is deceptively fast

  2. BucVoyager Says:

He’s a better runner than Doug was. More elusive.

  3. Fred McNeil Says:

For two different years Martin was fantastic. His first year and I think it was his fourth year. Martin wasn’t very fast, though. He’d always get caught from behind. Tucker won’t.

really feeling good about this room…

it can potentially be a deep room…like some of these other tote the rock type teams…

like a baltimore…whenever i watch them, they seem to be able to go at least 3 deep with rotating reliable backs into a game…

we’ve never really had that, but i see we might be able to have a reliable rotation of fresh legs to rely on this year…it’s alway more or less been 1 or 2 back for us, but they might want to consider not stashing tucker away in a locker room closet so fast this year…he’s looking as if he should be in the mixxx

Sean Tucker is faster than Doug Martin. He’s tucking a 4.3 in the forty wherein DMartin ran a 4.5. I knew it was a matter of time before Tucker would prove his skills set to the nfl.

  6. Hodad Says:

I like our three backs. What I really like is the Oline in front of them. We looked, and more important played five strong along the Oline. I didn’t see a weak link in that chain.

  7. Beeej Says:

Ke’Shawn….. Just looked him up, he’s with SF. Has 2 carries for 12 yards thus far

  8. View from 132 Says:

He looks like Cadillac Williams and Irving reminds me of Warrick Dunn. We’ll probably never see another 40 though.

  9. unbelievable Says:

I was high on Tucker coming out of college (for an UDFA).

Pretty stoked to see him getting into the swing of things now with a real offseason under his belt. Excited to see what him and Irving can do.

  10. Lt. Dan Says:

Hello Mr. Tucker. Goodbye Mr. Edmonds.

  11. infomeplease Says:

I saw KeShawn trying to make the 49ers team …His 5th.NFL team (this stat alone should tell you something). We’ll see if he makes the cut. Here… Tucker should get some snaps. If he produces, he will get more!

  12. JimBobBuc Says:

Tuc is starting to look like his Syracuse tape and belongs on the 53.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

The hype on this worthless back that averaged 1.5 yards per carry last year is truly insane.

He’s a basic no-frills north/south runner with zero moves. Sure, against future Winn Dixie bag boys he can get to the outside on them – but that’s it. We saw Tucker last year, he stunk. All you dopes last year talked up this dullard, and he stunk.

The reason Licht brought him up is that Licht was in the booth during the 4th quarter of the last preseason game and Tucker was still playing – which tells you everything about what the team thinks of him.

  14. Tucker Says:

Here goes the same episode on repeat from munch you guys are all idiots and I’m right. Give it a rest man you sound miserable.

  15. Dave Pear Says:

The Jefferson kid looked pretty good too, maybe practice squad? I’m not sure how his special teams are.

  16. LakelandSteve Says:

He looks like he could be a very valuable backup and who knows what can happen if he can get some significant snaps. However, he has primarily played against backups, and guys who will be looking for a job come Tuesday. Let’s see what he does against starters.

Agree Joe. I did hope that he would shine because I love the underdogs and overachievers of the world. He has actually made a case for RB2 as far as I am concerned. He and Klein would be my most surprising of camp. Hands down.

    Go Bucs!

To say Tucker is better than Doug Martin is a lazy assessment. Martin was 2nd in rushing one season in the nfl. In just 2 seasons he had over 3k yards just rushing and one of those seasons was his rookie year. I like Tucker but what has he done ? Martin off field issues caught up to him but when healthy Martin was a very good RB
