Bucs Begin Shaving Roster

August 25th, 2024

Among cutdown victims.

To meet Tuesday’s mandatory roster limit of 53 players, the Bucs started shedding players today.

Of course, no huge names were sent packing but a few guys who showed some things in training camp and worthless preseason games are now on the market.

Receiver Tanner Knue, running back Ramon Jefferson, tight end David Wells, corner Andrew Hayes and linebacker Kalen DeLoach are among the first Bucs casualties, as documented by Greg Auman of FOX Sports. Per Auman, the Bucs have waived 12 players.

The deadline to cut the roster to 53 is 4 p.m. Tuesday.

But I was told Deloach could be the next Paul McGowan.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

In the few snaps I saw him, I thought Ramon Jefferson looked pretty good. I assume he’ll be brought back via the practice squad.

  3. Pewter Power Says:

Ramon Jefferson did look pretty decent. Do the Bucs consider Rashad white to be the power back we don’t have?

  4. Knothead71 Says:

I think Knue will catch on somewhere. He didn’t look to bad.

  5. Mike S Says:

    HOW ABOUT THEM NOLES HUH?

    *laughs in Kyle Trask*

    You a******s deserve it.

  6. Dave Pear Says:

What edge rushers might get cut? Paying attention to that for sure.

  7. A Bucs Fan Says:

It was reported that Kalen Deloach was cut because he has a multi-week groin injury and will need to rehab. There’s a chance he’ll sign to the practice squad once he is fully healthy.

  8. Mike Says:

A lot of talented WR’s on the Bucs. I expect some of them will make the practice squad if they are cut.

  9. A Bucs Fan Says:

It has been reported that Knue will not be retained to the practice squad as of right now.

  10. SlyPirate Says:

    Tanner Knue
Surprised and not surprised. All he did was get open and catch everything thrown his way. Unfortunately we’re loaded at WR. He deserves a shot somewhere. He’s got LAC written all over him.

  11. A Bucs Fan Says:

OG Xavier Delgado has been cut too!

  12. Crickett Baker Says:

I also really liked Knue. The practice squad can’t be set up until the entire team is set. The bad thing about having such good scouts is that we have many good players that will probably be picked up by other teams.

  13. Zoocomics Says:

I’m hoping are scouts are razor sharp on other teams cuts as well. We need DE/OLB help badly. Be nice if we can scrape a gem from a stacked def NFL roster.

    Wishful thinking, I know.

  14. Joe in Michigan Says:

Zoocomics: I’d rather have Ramirez and/or Watts than someone who couldn’t make someone else’s team and doesn’t know the Bucs system.

  15. adam from ny Says:

from 90 to about 70 is the realistic scenario…

20 guys will be gone, and this early batch was just the easy one’s for one reason or another…

even a guy like deloch might not have been an easy cut, but more of an injury type maneuver for the moment – and a prelude to an eventual PS squad spot – while he gets on the cody mauch diet 🙂

  16. JimBobBuc Says:

The Bucs need improvement all along the defensive front from DT3 to OLB, and a RB4. I think that final cuts are a time where the Bucs need to be more aggressive bringing in talent.

  17. dbbuc711 Says:

I was really hoping for good things from Judge Culpepper because I loved how his Dad played. But don’t recall ever hearing anything about him.

  18. Doughboy Says:

Keep your head up Knoe, you caught evey pass I saw. Some team will grab you.You was twice the player Scotty Miller was.

  19. Conner50 Says:

All that hype on your fsu boy DeLoach and he was one of the first to get cut

  20. Superselmon Says:

Get rid of the best early, best chance to get them to practice squad

  21. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

I was just talking about Knue. Maybe someone like Cincinnati will pick him up after they saw him in person. Good luck wherever he goes.

  22. Tony Says:

    @Pewter Power

It’ll probably be DJ Williams or Sean Tucker.

  23. GoneGator Says:

I’m gonna be real interested in who we keep in the secondary. Seems to me to be our most glaring spot for weak play in the preseason.

  24. Tony Says:

    @Pewter Power

It’ll probably be DJ Williams or Sean Tucker.

  25. Cleanhouse Says:

    Who knue?

  26. garro Says:

No Huge surprises yet. Some of these guys could be back via PS and some are gonna get shots elsewhere. Would not be surprised if Knue gets a look from some other team. He has some really good tape.

Anybody else get reminded of Harry Potter looking at his pic? Just saying…

    Go Bucs

Great coverage of the Bucs’ roster adjustments. Your post provides a clear picture of the team’s strategy and potential implications of these cuts. Looking forward to seeing how this impacts the season!

  28. Bucs'n'Bucks Says:

Hey Joe!! Thanks for the updates on the unsung heroes. I know they’re not the superstars but are the ones out there at every practice making the great ones better. And, most importantly, when the little guys do something spectacular, it’s that much sweeter.

Good job, Joe! Keep it up. Go Bucs!!

  29. Noclu4u Says:

Thanks Georgia Tech. Won a lil sum sum .
