Baker Mayfield Talks Pissed Off Luke Goedeke
August 19th, 2024So it seems right tackle Luke Goedeke gets a little angry sometimes at the state of being the No. 2 tackle on Tampa Bay’s offensive line.
Goedeke is stronger than his good buddy Tristan Wirfs, the Bucs’ all-world left tackle and the highest paid O-lineman in football. Goedeke also had a heck of a season starting at right tackle for the first time as a professional last season.
So it seems, per Baker Mayfield, Goedeke wants some of his own glory instead of hearing about Wirfs’ greatness over and over.
“I love Luke,” Mayfield told SiriusXM NFL Radio today. “Luke’s one of my best friends, as well. But I think Luke, just knowing how he operates, I think he gets pissed off everybody talks about Tristan all the time. He wants his cake, too.”
Joe loves this. Goedeke is a big personality and Joe gets how Goedeke would love more limelight and probably is driven to the extreme by Wirfs’ big presence. And it’s gotta help that he and Wirfs train together and are tight.
Imagine if Goedeke breaks out this season at 25 years old. This could become a tackle tandem better than younger Wirfs paired with ex-Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith.

Wirf’s is freakish talent.
Goedeke is pi$$Ed off Tasmanian Devil Gym Freak.
Different bookends.

Can’t believe how far the glass eater has came he is a borderline pro bowl talent

You could argue they were already better than wirfs/smith last year.

Goedeke will get his cake and eat it too.

The center might end up being pretty good, too. I feel better about the OL than I do about the DL these days.

Sort of must be like one Joe always overlooked for the other Joe.
August 19th, 2024 at 4:51 pm
I love that’s he’s pissed off…stone a few guys and prove everyone wrong starting with a certain NO Saint
August 19th, 2024 at 5:08 pm
I hope he likes Falconcake. But first Commandercake.
August 19th, 2024 at 5:16 pm
He was ranked in PFF’a top 32 tackles list a few months back.
August 19th, 2024 at 5:18 pm
I think it’s already a better Tackle tandem than what we had with Donavan Smith. Smith had his best seasons with Brady and that’s because Brady got the ball out of his hand faster than anyone in the league

Great attitude by Goedeke, but he needs to back it up. He had the most penalty flags of any player on the team (8 holding, 5 false starts) last year. Clean it up and he”ll be in Wirfs’ World.

Joe … Your article about Goedeke being stronger than Wirfs was written back in May 2023. Luke had just finished his rookie year (at Guard) & was still building strength. It’d be fascinating to see a follow-up article on how the 2 compare in the weight room. And yes, I agree with JimBob that Luke has a little ways to go before he’ll be as ‘dominant’ as Tristan is on the field. Can almost guarantee though someone will steal Goedeke away after next year.

LG67 and TW78 make great book ends for the O Line. By the end of the season no one will dis the Bucs O Line. They will have produced the desired effect. They now have the personnel to be one of the best in the NFL !!!!! Seeing is believing!! Hopefully this shows up early in the season.

Considering Luke is stronger than Wirfs. I’m 290lb. I would run from a pissed off Luke.

Play better bro then u will get attention
tW is 100 times better

I love the attitude if it’s really LUKE’S tune and not a great teammate writing a check for Luke to cash.
The dude was put to guard the first year, had his lunch handed to him. His next year put to Right Tackle and was better than half the league. Third year, same position, right attitude, go kick some mucking arse into the dirt. Make a name for yourself and cash that check $$$
Buc Nation will love and support it.

Drunkinybor-probably ought to just stand your ground. Never run from a predator like that. They will outrun you easy.

you people are losers
August 19th, 2024 at 8:26 pm
Joe, keep him angry by not writing about him! 🤣🤣🤣
August 19th, 2024 at 8:27 pm
Just dont be “pissed off” in a literal sense like Gosder Cherilus was.
August 19th, 2024 at 8:55 pm
Tbbuc3 – that would be “pissed on” I believe.

Harold. What do you not understand about S. T. F. U.?

I’ve seen badass right tackles make a big difference in NFL teams’ running games. Thinking of Dallas’ Erik Williams, at the end of Emmitt Smith’s long runs, he was always downfield standing over some defensive player he’d whooped.

Wirfs-Goedeke in 2023 were better than Wirfs-Smith in 2024. They just lacked the interior linemen and trophy to show it, but that is changing quickly.

Mr Big bad Luke allowed Aidan Hutchinson a clear shot 3 times in the playoff loss in Detroit. Never seen that from Tristan in 1 game, yeah Tristan is not perfect. But totally free and clear shots giving up by Luke? He ran by Luke like, it was like how do you miss one of the best players in the league?? Yeah Luke stepped up last year. But seeing Hutchinson have clear unimpeded shots on Baker is not cool. Hey Luke maybe earn that money first bro.
Anyone is free to go and watch the playoff game in Detroit to see what I am saying. Go Bucs!!!

Goedeke is not as good as Wirfs and never will be. However, he is at least adequate. Maybe this year he will clean it all up. It’s only year three.
August 20th, 2024 at 6:43 pm
Well, at least the “donkey” has been dropped by certain impatient fans judging rookies playing out of their college position. I’m liking some angry SOBS on the line
August 21st, 2024 at 7:38 am
Pissed off Luke? Long as he’s not pissed at me. 🙂
Stronger than Wirfs? I saw a vid of Wirfs lifting as a rookie…Wow!
Smith could never at any time hold a candle to Wirfs and or Goedeke. Smith was not near the athlete that either one is. Nor did he show any desire to be elite. Both of these guys appear to me to want to be the best!
I am a bit conflicted now though. Wirfs got paid. Luke is gonna want his and I can’t blame him. Can we afford to pay both? No team can pay everyone All Pro money.
I think we may be at the beginning of having an elite O line.
Go Bucs

Bout to be a bad year to be in the business of hating Mayfield
