Aqib Talib Picks Falcons; Says Carlton Davis Will Be A Key To Lions Reaching Super Bowl

August 5th, 2024

Former Bucs “wild child” cornerback Aqib Talib, the five-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champ, is one hell of an analyst, one of Joe’s favorites.

His NFL insight is fantastic and is delivered with ease and, most of all, Talib is often on the money with his projections when it comes to teams and defensive backs.

Talib appeared on Up & Adams recently and dropped all kinds of NFL takes. One of his most compelling was why he feels he’s deserving of a bust in Canton. Joe went from thinking, ‘No chance’ to ‘Talib’s probably deserving.’ Nice sales job, Aqib.

But Talib made Joe take pause when claiming the Lions trading with the Bucs for cornerback Carlton Davis, combined with them drafting Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold in Round 1 will be a big reason Detroit is playing in the next Super Bowl.

Talib also explained that the Falcons’ roster is the kind of group that will benefit greatly from Raheem Morris as the new head coach. And Talib managed to pick the Falcons over the Bucs in the NFC South this season without mentioning Kirk Cousins. (Joe hates the take but will give Talib props for pulling that off.)

Talib has a strong track record of evaluating defensive backs and he picked the Lions to be in the NFC title game prior to last season.

Joe will inhale a plate of Hooters wings tonight (with their new Mango Habanero sauce) and hope Talib is way off the mark on these takes.

I remember being at a Magic game when Raheem was our coach. Him, and Talib were at the game together, and at the time I thought is was a bad look for a H.C. to be hanging out with only one player. They both were acting like they had been drinking. Raheem wasn’t the Buc H.C. much longer after that. No surprise then that Raheem now would pick his bung hole buddy to win the division. Now he thinks Davis, a player who can’t stay healthy, and has hands of stone will be the difference for the Lions? Glad Joe likes hearing what Talib has to say, but I think he just hates the Bucs.

  2. SenileSenior Says:

He is wrong. Our defence will be excellent this year. Sufficient to help us win games. We should defeat Atlanta and win the NFC South. CD will help Detroit win also, though.

    Go Bucs!

  3. Irishmist Says:

Hopefully, just another instance where he shoots himself in the foot.

  4. Dave Pear Says:

Raheem was the worst match for a young and immature team after Dumdumnik released all the veteran leadership. Dumdumnik and the Raheehaw. What a match made in ineptitude.

  5. Nick2 Says:

His opinions are just like his character tainted.

Picking the Falcons is popular and they are the betting favorites.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are flying under the radar- they will be a factor this year
You can get 3-1 odds on betting the Bucs to win the NFC South – I’m in

  8. A Bucs Fan Says:

I happened to see a bunch of matchup clips today of CD on many #1 WR’s including JJ, Chase, Tyreek, Amari Cooper and the like. He played all exceptionally well in press-man coverage. He’s an above average player when healthy.

He seemed too injury prone the past few seasons and like he lost some focus/ became disenfranchised with the defense last season. Hopefully he turns it around in Detroit.

  9. Doughboy Says:

Who the h_ll is Aqib Talib, seriously.

  10. WiseCrack Says:

SenileSenior, our defense is what allowed us to squeak out the division last year. Stands to reason that the D will have to repeat that effort in order to repeat this year.

Can’t count on Baker repeating his all-time personal best stat lines.

ALTHOUGH, he does have Moxie in spades. Thats gotta mean something. RIGHT?

I dismissed this at first but it is actually pretty interesting. CAR’s defense is really good. Their DC is returning so it will stay good. Canales is a horrible coach and Young is an even worse QB but he keeps turnovers down. They should stay in games. Their first ten games are easy. If could see them going 4-6. They’d be in the mix when they face us.

  12. Tye Says:

The Bucs true detriment is their low quality HC, Bowels…
I can see the Bucs being a more feared and exciting team if only they had a Winner as HC!

Thats really interesting you would say that, cause now that I think about it, and when you really think about it, the most interesting thing about Carol

    @Tye

    Whats your thoughts on Carolina?

  16. Beeej Says:

CD3 is a good press corner….when he’s on the field

  17. SC Bucs Fan Says:

And we care about what he thinks… why?

  18. WiseCrack Says:

@SC Bucs Fan gerrrrrrr. if only Pablo where here, he would unite us. Not sure Pablo is around anymore. Pretty sure his heart was broke when the elongated arc was not resigned.

@Pablo, if you are out there. We understand, hope you hop back on the bandwagon this year. Your insight is invaluable.

Get the word out, JBF misses Pablo

  19. J Says:

It feels like Bowles is primed to take Campbell to the woodshed this go around. We know the players have the game pinned.

  20. Mike C Says:

A Buc fan says ” Hopefully he turns it around in Detroit” no…. no hopefully he sucks and so does Detroit… you know, because I am a Buc fan, not a cd or Detroit fan….

  21. Bee Says:

Outsiders don’t trust our HC and QB. Can you blame them? A 9-8 team that sneaked into the playoffs and beat a bad Philly team. This team has a lot to improve on with a ton of questions about the OL, pass rush, run game and what this offense will look like.

    We’ll see

  22. IrishTony Says:

CD will struggle in Detroit. I just don’t see him fitting into Detroit’s culture and to be honest I don’t think he fit in Tampa’s culture either. He was a bit brash at times and I don’t think they liked that. Zyon M will end up being better and overall more consistent. As far as Atlanta winning the division I just don’t see it because of their overall lack of experience, injury prone QB, and piss ass pass rush.

  23. A Bucs Fan Says:

@ Mike C – I do wish Carlton well and personal success. Choosing to wish home-grown tenured former bucs players who contributed to a SB championship well after they have moved on, except for when they play the Bucs, is a perfectly human thing to do. After all, I am a only a fan; not a fanatic.

  24. IrishTony Says:

Comparing the Bucs to Atlanta is like comparing the old steady 80s era Volvo or 90s Subaru to one of these crap ass shiny sleek Teslas.

  25. Alanbucsfan Says:

    SlyPirate
Panthers have beefed up their interior OLine and have added WR and RB with top draft picks. B Young will be a better QB this year – they have a good chance at 2nd place in division IMO

  26. BakerFan Says:

Doesn’t he have a brother to visit in prison for shooting up a pee wee football game.

  27. JD Still Says:

Right now there are 32 teams tied for first, or last, and it really doesn’t matter what anybody says about any of those teams , the only thing that’s going to matter is what those teams do on the field! Go Bucs!

  28. White Tiger Says:

I believe the Bucs will be very good this season, but I still think the Bucs are a year away.

  29. Bucnation Says:

    Who cares what Talib thinks?

  30. Bucnation Says:

The only good things Talib did as a Buc were get arrested, go on probation, complain, or get suspended

  31. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

Help instigate a melee at a youth football game during which someone gets murdered. Still welcome in front of TV cameras. What kind of privilege is this?

  32. Drunkinybor Says:

Of course Talib is picking his homeboy Raheem to win the division. They were close friends when Raheem was our coach way back then. Coming from him I dont put any stock into his opinion. Falcons are gonna Falcon.

  33. go dawgs Says:

same jack arse that punched a taxi driver, fired off rounds w his momma in texas and instigated a pee wee fotball fight where someone was shot and killed.

WHAT A HALL OF FAMER!! what is wrong with this country?

    Make America Great Again!

  34. garro Says:

Come on man! Talib says something that makes sense and something good about the Bucs? That is not very likely now is it? Who is dumb enough to take this dude serioulsy anyway. He spent more time in central booking than TPD.

    Go Bucs!

  35. unbelievable Says:

Division winner might just boil down to which team stays healthiest.

Our defensive injuries are piling up already

  36. Tye Says:

@ WiseCrack – Carolina is to new to really evaluate this early…
To many variables to make an informed decision…

Not expecting much from small qb with no standouts at receiver or running back but every year there is always a surprising team…
