Yaya Diaby Showing Every Sign Of Making A Huge Second-Year Leap

July 25th, 2024

Beastly Bucs edge rusher Yaya Diaby.

Head coach Todd Bowles went out of his way to make a positive example out of second-year edge rusher Yaya Diaby today.

Joe asked Bowles a general question about what signs are seen from second-year players that make a huge leap in their sophomore seasons. The Bucs have a huge number of second-year guys.

Bowles answered and chose to point in the direction of Diaby, who had a beastly practice today — Day 2 of training camp.

“You see the shape they come in and you see the understanding in the spring,” Bowles began. “Really, you see it when they’re playing faster and not thinking. You see that with Yaya right now. You see him understanding the defense, not even close to where he was last year; he was just being brute strength. But right now, his technique and his awareness of the game and everything he’s doing is outstanding.”

Bowles added that Diaby’s “effort and his concentration right now has been great.”

Man, the Bucs need Diaby to have that kind of Year 2 typical of great players.

He reminds me of Justin Tuck. Tuck took a couple seasons to develop but he was younger than Diaby when he was drafted. Yaya at age 25 hopefully takes that step and more to become a stud pass rusher this season.

If he can pressure the qb consistently, we will dominate our division

YaYa can chase them from his side. Kancey will chase them from the middle and JTS will run them down!!
