Training Camp Schedule Change

July 10th, 2024

There’s a different wrinkle in the Bucs’ training camp schedule this summer.

During 2024 training camp, the Bucs are scheduled to have consecutive days off on Sunday, Aug. 4 and Monday, Aug. 5. Joe doesn’t recall seeing back-to-back days off previously in a camp, with the possible exception of following a road preseason game.

Joe asked Sage of Tampa Bay Sports Ira Kaufman about this development and Sage can’t remember such a scheduled happening in his many decades of covering the NFL.

So is this a suggestion from Bucs doctors/trainers to maximize performance? Are the Bucs planning to attend an event as a team? Does Todd Bowles want schedule flexibility in case of seriously inclement weather early in camp?

Joe initially thougth it might have something to do with coaches wanting to attend someone’s Hall of Fame enshrinement, but that’s a day prior to the break.

At some point, Joe will get an answer.

The Bucs return to practice on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and will practice three consecutive days before traveling to Cincinnati for their preseason opener on Saturday, Aug. 10.

I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Probably trying to keep players from the usual training camp heat cramps or hamstring issues. Or maybe they are going extra brutal the day before ?

It could be all that you and others said. The Hall of Fame weekend is August 1-4 so it doesn’t sound like that would be it but you never know. Another mystery to be solved.
