Todd Bowles Wants Flags

July 29th, 2024

Todd Bowles with his defensive playsheet at practice today.

Man, Lovie Smith and Todd Bowles couldn’t be more different in many ways.

Lovie didn’t want to have referees at practice. Bowles? Not only were they there today for the first 2024 practice in pads, Bowles gave them orders to be a flag-happpy crew.

“Lot of flags go. I want [the practice officials] to be very ticky-tacky now so we can learn it, so we don’t have them during the season,” Bowles said after a morning session that had a fair amount of yellow litter. “So I said anything close they need to throw the flag and they need to learn from it and we need to learn from it. So we’ll see what the flags look like.”

Smart move by Bowles. The practice film will tell the story of whether a flag was legit or not, or within the margin of acceptable play.

Couldn’t agree more with Bowles. Know the rules. Nothing like marching down the field and a hands to the face penalty stalls the drive.

This sounds great, especially if the officials are also breaking down the calls in the film room after practice.

Good idea. I’d like to see him go through mock late game situations, too. We lost games last year because we were unprepared to manage down-distance-clock.

    Lovie Smith used to.. sorry 🤢 🤢 🤮 🤮 I can’t finish 🤢 it.

When Lovie Smith became head coach of the Bucs, it was clear the game passed him by. He didn’t want to scrimmage with preseason teams, his defensive scheme was outdated, he just wasn’t a good coach.

Fantastic concept. Love the growth I’m seeing from players and coaches.

I like JimBobBucs idea of having the refs revue the reasoning behind the flags after practice.

Good idea. The non-Brady Bucs will get screwed by the refs just like they always have, so might as well get used to it. Make sure you have Mike Evans getting mugged on every throw and no flags are thrown, then if he slightly pushes off on a TD, make sure to flag that and take points off the board, like in real games.
