“The Dial Landed On The Ocho”

July 23rd, 2024

“Joel, is my housekeeper allowed to place a six-figure wager?”

So the NFL has somewhat embraced the sports gambling world and, apparently, is now producing fancy previews for win-total bettors.

Joe still thinks it’s funny how the league treated wagering as the devil and is now embraces it.

Earlier today, the official NFL YouTube channel pumped out a slick Buccaneers preview titled Win Total Floor & Ceiling. Caesars sportsbook is where the NFL got its betting lines that, of course, have the Buccaneers set at over-under 7 1/2 wins for the 2024 season.

The video makes the case of why the Bucs have only 7 wins in the bag based on projected win totals of other teams. The Slimy Saints also are over-under 7 1/2 wins, so the shared logic is the Bucs will split games with New Orleans this season.

The analysis ends with a declaration of the Bucs having a 10-win ceiling — and they are picked to win just eight games. “The dial landed on the Ocho,” the narrator revealed.

Joe hopes Team Glazer watches this and realizes they’re a partner in their own team getting disrespected. That’s gotta feel good.

I think my first game-by-game breakdown the night the schedule came out had the Bucs with 6 wins.

But, we shall see. They certainly overachieved last year after being 4-7. Of course that end of the year run was against a remarkable stretch of teams that were all in the middle of losing streaks when the Bucs played them. So the question is – did the Bucs actually improve, or did they just get insanely lucky. I hope they improved and can take some of that swagger at the end of the year and roll it into this year. Even if I only picked 6-wins on that first look a the schedule, I don’t feel nearly as down about this team as last year at this time.

I’ve got the Bucs at 10 or 11 wins. The national media and betters think that Canales saved Bake and Canales departure is a big loss. Those of us here don’t see Canales departure as a loss. Didn’t those same sources predict 3.5 wins last year?

I judge our improvement by how we played Detroit early in the season vs in the playoffs. Night and day, can’t be explained away
