Jordan Whitehead, A Quality Addition

July 22nd, 2024

Solid signing.

It seems Jordan Whitehead is so invisible, many NFL stenographers can’t seem to recall his name.

For example, how many times this summer have you read something whiny from someone sitting at a cubicle in New York or Los Angeles about how Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht didn’t upgrade the roster and only kept his own to “run it back?”

That’s just nonsense. The Bucs signed back hard-hitting safety Whitehead from the Jets.

Whitehead is a bit underrated, Joe would argue. If not for Whitehead, perhaps the Bucs don’t beat the Packers in the 2020 NFC Championship game. He’s a big reason the Bucs ran the table in the playoffs.

Last year the Bucs tried free agent safety Ryan Neal on a cheap one-year deal. It was a disaster. Before November, Bowles had guys playing man when they should have been in zone and vice-versa in an attempt to cover for Neal.

As Joe is typing in mid-July, Neal is still looking for work. That’s how bad his play was last season.

Whitehead, however, is known to Warren Sharp. The noted handicapper turned stathead seems to like how the Bucs brought back Whitehead.

So yeah, for all those folks who bellyached how Licht wasn’t adding to the Bucs roster in free agency, let Joe introduce you to Whitehead.

If your head is not on a swivel, Whitehead will blow up your world. Be careful.

The secondary got a major injection of juice, two additional FA CBs and Tykee. Plus Izien proved he could play as solid depth. Dean may be endangered species.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

Whitehead is a huge upgrade at safety.

However, anyone that thinks the Bucs upgraded at corner … wow, they probably thought Ryan Smith should have been starting.

  3. Jvato24 Says:

Rod Munch … How many times have you seen Bryce Hall play?? The corners may not be improved, but not so sure it’s not atleast equal to last season

  4. Shane Callahan Says:

I’m really impressed just how much this team improved this off-season “under the radar.”

I am really excited about Jordan. He’s back and cannot wait to see him play this season for our Bucs again.

Thank you Joe for making sure we are informed about what is going on in the NFL world and keeping our Bucs relevant.

Reminded about OG Elijah Klein in the article. Another strong player this season that Licht drafted.

Haven’t we read this post before?

  8. BucsFan55 Says:

They should have let Edwards walk and then re-signed Whitehead

  9. JimBobBuc Says:

Evidently Whitehead wasn’t appreciated in NY by the team or the press, our gain. Whitehead was a receiver and has good hands, unlike our CB’s. Hopefully we can get some INT’s from our CB’s.

    JimBobBuc, AMEN to that brother!

  11. Fred McNeil Says:

Bucfan55, in hindsight we really should have kept Whitehead over Edwards. Maybe the Jets made the decision for us by tampering.

If Joe is censoring you he’s not doing a very good job imo – Lol šŸ˜‚.
