PFF Tribe Slaps Mike Evans In The Face

July 23rd, 2024

Tribal warning.

This is so bad it’s good.

You want to know why people in the NFL laugh out loud about the PFF tribe’s GD grades? It’s tripe like this.

Simply put, Mike Evans is one of the best receivers in the game. If his Pro Football Hall of Fame resume doesn’t tip you off, his stellar play should. Any clod who tries to tell Joe that Evans isn’t one of the top-20 receivers in the game, Joe immediately tells them to go back to their coloring books.

That would be like saying Joe Burrow couldn’t start for half the teams in the league. To suggest Evans isn’t a top-20 receiver is patently asinine.

Now to be fair, the PFF tribe didn’t suggest Evans isn’t a top-20 receiver. But they damn near did. In ranking NFL wide receivers, one of the high priests of the PFF tribe, Sam Monson, believes Evans is the No. 20 receiver in the game.

That’s right. A future Hall of Fame receiver is No. 20. Have you heard of anything more idiotic?

Yup, a guy who led the league in touchdown catches last year and who has never had less than 1,000-yards receiving in a season through 10 years is only the 20th-best receiver in the game.

Can you imagine?

Here are some receivers Monson has ranked over Evans:

CeeDee Lamb (no, Joe would not take Lamb over Evans, sorry), Davante Adams, Brandon Aiyuk (he’s quite good but not better than Evans), Deebo Samuel (he’s quite good but not better than Evans), Stefon Diggs (who is so good Buffalo gave him away — and his numbers suggests he’s past his prime), D.J. Moore, Garrett Wilson, DeAndre Hopkins (past his prime), Terry McLaurin (really?!) and Amari Cooper (he’s done).

How drunk do you have to be to come up with this list?

Further, Monson has rookie Marvin Harrison, Jr. at No. 21.

Want to laugh some more? Monson has D.K. Metcalf at No. 24. Good, grief!

Why exactly is this crowd, the PFF tribe, allegedly thought of as football savants?

If Joe were Cris Collinsworth, Joe wouldn’t be able to show his face in public with feces like this spread as supposedly intellectual football knowledge.

  2. Defense Rules Says:

On the day that Mike Evans gets selected for the HOF on the 1st ballot, I doubt that he’ll be asking ‘Tell me again, who was Sam Monson?’

  3. Lt. Dan Says:

“Joe immediately tells them to go back to their coloring books.” Well said Joe.

  4. geno711 Says:

There really was no reason that DaVante Adams and Mike Evans should have been separated. Both came into the league in 2014. During that time, Adams has one (1) more receiving TD, Evans has more receiving yards, Adams has more receptions.

Clearly Adams had a better QB throwing to him most of his career.

Adams was 6th, Evans was 20th. Just do not get the continued discrepancy there.

Rotflmfao. Comedy hour so early? Itā€™s a wonder that there are only 80,000 unemployed comediansā€¦.

Mike Evans should be in the top 10! The reasoning written about many of them ahead of Evans were total gray areas and not just what they said about Adams. Indeed, they do need to go back to their coloring books, maybe paint by numbers too.

  7. SB~LV Says:

Back out the Buc fan love/ bias and Mike Evans is a big dependable pass catcher in the modern era NFL where the top WRā€™s are EXPLOSIVE big play makers.
We have to ME pass catchers including Chris Godwin, the top of opposing defenses respect the two but certainly donā€™t fear either.

  8. Dave Pear Says:

Wait. I need to go to the bathroom and take a Sam Monson.

  9. Towered Says:

    Men are too emotional.

Stats don’t invalidate your precious feelings snowflakes.

    Fire bad! Ugh!

Quit crying about how nobody respects your gut feelings.

  10. Boss Says:

Mike Evans is already 1st ballot HOF
    He is the GOAT
    Respect his authorita’!

  11. Lowest Common Denominator Says:

Ceedee was the best receiver in the league last year.

Devante Adams has been widely regarded as the most skilled receiver in game for many years now, Evans himself has said he’s the best.

Hard to say with Aiyuk/Deebo because they have a ton of target/touch competition in a low volume offense. Where as Evans has always been the alpha target earner.

DJ Moore and Garrett Wilson are both studs that get open and make plays regardless of awful QB play.

Mike is for sure better than old Dhop, McLaurin, and Amari Cooper(he’s not done btw, not sure where this take is coming from) and is a 1st ballot hall of famer. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t dudes in the league who are better.

  12. JA Says:

They write this garbage to get under people’s skin. That’s it! And apparently, especially in this case, it worked! Some of you, including Joe, are outraged over … nothing! And I’m betting Sam Monson is jumping for joy. “Yea! They’re angry with me!”
His opinion has no meaning or value whatsoeverā€”nada, zilch, zero!. We all know Mike will be a first ballot Hall of Fame selection. Nothing else matters except his production this year, which nobody without a time machine can predict.

Love him or hate him, the now retired Peter King said the thing he loathed most about his job was when he was “ordered” to predict team records and player rankings. But he was told to do it to ‘stir the soup’ because any press is good press.
According to the media suits, however, creating outrage out of meaningless lists is considered good business. If we all looked the other way many of these guys would be out of a job.

And third person JA would be jumping for joy with third person Joe (hopefullyā€”these losers give Joe content for an article)!

  13. Dave Pear Says:

Man, this morningā€™s Sam Monson had corn in it.

  14. Marine Buc Says:

Perhaps all the dropped passes factored into this ranking?

  15. Kgh4life Says:

Those rankings are a disgrace. Which is why I don’t take the majority of these national pundits seriously.

  16. DS Says:

TDā€™s matter the game is about TDā€™s

Hilarious attempts at bad comedy permeate every and all corners today. Sometimes itā€™s ridiculously funny. It really is. Take it for what it is. Thanks Joe I needed a good laugh cause I gotta fly out tomorrow on deltašŸ˜¬

  18. D Cone Says:

Evans TD total was 36% of the Bucs TD total. Going to Evans was more of a need for Mayfield to have success and get paid and not because he is still the top of the line in the Receiving Department. Don’t get me wrong, Evans is still good, and will contribute but he is down the line in talent and ability ten years in.

Honda Accord was the best rated mid size car in 2014 and still is in 2024 but every model was better than the one that came out the year before. Harrison and Odunze in year one will both be better than Evans was his first season and will eclipse his peak within a year or two. That’s just how it is.

  19. Fred McNeil Says:

I once saw a TV show honoring Fred Astaire. The host shared an early casting report from some Hollywood evaluator. He wrote: “Can’t sing. Can’t act. Can dance…a little”. Nobody remembers that idiot’s name. Nobody will remember this idiot’s name either.

  20. Nano Says:

    Colonel Angus sums it up
PFF = PEWTER Plank = GARBAGE
Joe has facts simple you might have to guide other folks lol

  21. SenileSenior Says:

While Mike Evans toils in the backwater known as Tampa Bay his resume grows. Disrespect goes with the territory. He will be recognized for his achievements at the end. šŸ«Ø šŸ’ šŸ˜„

The Buccaneers just might (keyword might) get some respect after we make our next Superbowl appearance.

  22. infomeplease Says:

ME13 makes QBs look good! Even Johnny Manziel who couldn’t even make it in Canada. Easily top ten, probably top five, based on what he has done and continues to do year in, year out. Most hall of fame receivers don’t have the stats ME13 does! And he’s still going strong!! These guys who put up a couple of seasons worth of good stats have a very long way to go to catch ME13!

  23. unbelievable Says:

    Laughable!

But it’s cuz he plays for the Bucs.

If Evans was on the Eagles, Cowboys, Giants, Niners, Chiefs, Steelers, Ravens, Packers, etc., he’d be considered top-5 year in and year out.

  24. Rod Munch Says:

CeeDee Lamb (no, Joe would not take Lamb over Evans, sorry), Davante Adams, Brandon Aiyuk (heā€™s quite good but not better than Evans), Deebo Samuel (heā€™s quite good but not better than Evans), Stefon Diggs (who is so good Buffalo gave him away ā€” and his numbers suggests heā€™s past his prime), D.J. Moore, Garrett Wilson, DeAndre Hopkins (past his prime), Terry McLaurin (really?!) and Amari Cooper (heā€™s done).

    ———

If you’re looking at this year alone, there’s literally no player on that list I’m taking over Evans.

Lamb, I think, is the player who would be the toughest challenge. That kid is good – and if this was about the next few years, he’d be my pick on this list.

Adams is a very good WR, but his stats are always inflated by being a true #1 on a team without a Godwin to steal stats. Just look at the games where Evans is focus of the game when Godwin is out or limited, and Evans numbers are ridiculous.

The 49er WRs are not as good as Evans. Diggs has fallen off quite a lot. DJ Moore? LOL – he’s not even as good as Godwin. Wilson is pretty good, but again, not in Evans class at this point. Hopkins? Are you kidding me – he is completely washed up. That name being on this list is literally insane. Yeah, at one time Hopkins was amazing, but that was years ago at this point. McLaurin is very unrated, but is more in line with Godwin – not Evans. Cooper, again, very good and very unrated for his career – not at the same level as Evans.

  25. TampabayDJ Says:

    Rod – Well said
