Monte Kiffin Passes Away

July 11th, 2024

Monte Kiffin reportedly passed today.

Former Bucs defensive coordinator and inductee into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor, Monte Kiffin, reportedly passed away today. He was 84.

Kiffin passed away, per Nick Schultz of On3.com, in Oxford, Miss. The official Twitter account of Ole Miss football, where Kiffin’s son Lane is the head coach, also announced Kiffin’s passing per Kiffin’s grandson Knox.

Joe will update when more details are available. Joe offers condolences to the Kiffin family.

Kiffin of course was the famed former Bucs defensive coordinator who crafted one of the greatest defenses in league history from 1996-2008, tagged the “Tampa 2.” He helped craft the careers of at least four Pro Football Hall of Famers, including Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, John Lynch and Ronde Barber.

It was Kiffin’s defense that was largely responsible for the Bucs’ first Super Bowl title on that glorious day in January of 2003.

The real Defensive Mastermind. So sorry to hear this. Thanks to Coach Kiff for spoiling us with elite defense for so many years. 13 seasons. It makes the current defense really hard to watch.

The architect of some of the best.momenys of my life. Growing up as 16 year old on 1996 and seeing this defense emerge was was awesome. For the first time in my entire life. I thought I wouldn’t jave to hear Succaneers or here my Sunday school teacher make jokes ( he was from philly) even our priest would.say ” well thank God your here and not watching our guys always lose”. That was at Saint Stephen’s church. In Brandon or valrico. I moved to Cali when I was 17. Anyway just thank you Monte and thank God . I could skip a few Sundays to watxh my boys whoop.as..s on defense.

Thanks coach Kiffin for your contribution to this great franchise, which I grew to love, since ‘97. Your influence extends beyond the Bucs. You’ve impacted many lives with your hard work and dedication on and off the field. Rest in peace coach.

I consider Monte Kiffin the greatest defensive coordinator in NFL history. Even as the years went by and offense’s started figuring out the Tampa two, Kiffin adapted his defense’s with innovative adjustments and still dominated. Kiffin also got untalented players to work harder and excel. He was truly a defensive genius
RIP Coach, you were loved by everyone in Tampa.
