Mike Evans Considered Chiefs, Texans Before His Wife Told Him It’s Cool To Stick With Bucs

July 29th, 2024

Mike Evans credits his wife Ashli for sticking with Bucs.

So yesterday, former Bucs All-Pro defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and NFL Network reporter and Gulf High grad Sara Walsh broadcast live for NFL Network from the practice fields of One Buc Palace.

Future Hall of Fame receiver Mike Evans talked to them and GMC asked Evans what it was about him and/or the Bucs that he didn’t take the plunge and perhaps make more money elsewhere on what could be his final bite at the NFL apple?

Evans admitted he did think about leaving, as he explained in March.

The two teams he was interested in were the Chiefs, because of the prospect of catching passes from Pat Mahomes, and his hometown Texans with C.J. Stroud.

The third team? Why the Bucs, of course.

“It would [have] been extremely hard, if I hit free agency, to leave here,” Evans confessed. “But [Tampa Bay] is what my family knows. My kids were born here. My wife has been here a long time. She doesn’t want to pack up everything and move.

“She loves this place and I love this place.”

Walsh then asked Evans if Bucs fans should then thank his wife, Ashli Evans, for keeping her husband in pewter and red. He didn’t disagree.

So there you have it, folks. If you bump into Ashli Evans, buy her a coffee in appreciation for giving her husband the green light to stay in Tampa.

I understand the Texans. But F%&@ the chiefs…

  4. Irishmist Says:

Mike made the right decision for the long run. He has to take a play or two off every time he hits the soft grass turf here in Tampa. The fuzzy concrete in Huston or the frozen ground in KC would be even harder on those old bones.

Perhaps GMs would be wise to pitch the wives before the players, when it’s time to talk contracts.

Lesson to all of you salesmen out there: When speaking, address the wife too. The man is doing nothing without her approval!

    Thank you Ashli!

  13. GP Says:

Buy her a cup of coffee?!?
Maybe a gourmet meal would be a little more appropriate?

Why would Evans want to go to the Chiefs? He saw how Mahomes choked in the Super Bowl.
