Long-Range Touchdowns

July 21st, 2024

Home run hitter.

Despite former Bucs offensive coordinator Dave Canales trying to turn an offense with explosive playmakers into a ground-and-pound team, the Bucs still hit home runs.

And with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Rachaad White (in the passing game), the Bucs should be an explosive offense.

Canales wanted to run between the tackles, even though the Bucs couldn’t run the ball. Still, Canales was smart enough to use his serious passing weapons to get the Bucs to the divisional round — and nearly out of it.

Per noted handicapper turned stathead Warren Sharp, only 10 teams had more offensive touchdowns of 10 yards or more than Tampa Bay. And remember, Canales loved running up the middle with a running back who couldn’t make a mailbox miss.

To Joe, this was pretty good.

Craft an offense around what players do best. Why run the ball when you can’t when you have a Hall of Fame receiver and a Pro Bowl-caliber receiver on the other side?

Does Brad Keselowski drop his kids off at school, make Publix sub runs and tool around his hood in his Ford NASCAR rig? Of course not.

That KC number is surprising. The Superbowl featured the #1 team vs the #31 team with the #31 winning.

They realized they couldn’t out muscle anyone which was talked about by the coaches themselves. Then the media caught on with the late season quotes. This is what was puzzling about running the ball early in games until they got behind. They knew they couldn’t do it but went with it anyway. I understand it needs to be done but if you can’t knock guys off the line you better be able to use misdirection or straight trickery.

The kc stat shows stats are irrelevant. Just win baby win.

Coen has said that he wants to feed his best players on plays they excel in:

Throw to Godwin early, in the slot.
Deep HIGH balls so ME13 can run under them.
    Run Bucky behind Wirfs
Slants to Palmer, either deep or quick off the line.
Swing routes and screens to White
    Seam routes to Dev?
    Red zone throws to Durham.

    DON’T
    Run White anywhere
Run behind Mauch and Goedeke until they improve
    Throw seams to Otton

Canalwater and the definition of insanity. Good riddance.

  6. Citrus County Says:

10 yards is now long range ? Thats 30 feet… half the distance from the rubber to home plate !

  7. Dave Pear Says:

Ya but ME13 is green not blue. ROTFL. Da fork.

  8. Citrus County Says:

While individual quarterbacks may vary, the general consensus is that most NFL quarterbacks can throw the ball 55-65 yards with accuracy. However, some elite quarterbacks like Mahomes and others may be able to reach distances of 70-80 yards or more under optimal conditions.

This is an AI answer to the question; How far can a QB throw the ball ?
Perhaps 60 yards (180 feet) or even 50 yards be considered “long range”.

And yet the Super Bowl Champs were only # 7. Guess the Bucs are better because of these analytics just like some say Baker is better than Mahomies and Brady because of certain analytics.

Plays of +10 yards, not passes of +10 yards meaning the quick outs & screens that were taken to the house are on the table. Just off the top of my head I know Chaad had one screen he took to the house against the Titans & another in Lambeau.

Honestly idc whether it’s a 5 yard TD or a 39 yard TD, Chris Godwin needs to fed often and well enough that he scores more than 2 f’n TDs, hell he should have that by week 3

When a team has mike evans, that’s like a team having labron James in hoop. Its money. Identify your talent and deploy the assets accordingly.
Just get him the ball and also use him as a decoy. Hopefully he holds up. It’s a very long season these days.

    Think about it…

    Geez… Sad…

    Go Bucs!

  13. Capt Jimbo Neal Says:

Baker was 15th in yards per pass attempt and 14th in yards per pass completion. Pretty ho-hum if you ask me.

Every time we watched the same running up the middle play it made most of us cringe. We knew it was coming every single time and so didn’t the opposing team. Stunned at times seeing Mike wide open and didn’t get thrown the ball. Sometimes, it looked as though Mike didn’t know the ball was meant to come to him and you could tell by his expression.

Yes, Mike is our Lebron James like Bring back the lawn chairs said. Thinking Mike will do very well this season. Can’t wait!
