Kyle Brandt: Bucs Are No. 19

July 9th, 2024

NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt.

Appearing on “The Mina Kimes Show,” mysterious co-host (?) of “Good Morning Football” Kyle Brandt ranked the reigning NFC South champion Bucs in the teens.

Barely.

(Column intermission: Joe wants to strangle the arsehole who decided it was smart business to wreck NFL Media, which oversees NFL Network programming and NFL.com content. They’ve destroyed the best sports morning TV show, “Good Morning Football,” killed “Total Access” and f’ed up Gregg Rosenthal’s “Around the NFL” podcast. Some beancounter will brag how this saves the NFL money yet the NFL prints money like a casino on the Vegas strip that hosts nothing but “000” roulette and 6/5 blackjack tables.)

Brandt, whose status with “Good Morning Football” is a mystery as the show is set to reboot in a few weeks, had fun with Kimes. She offered a choice of teams for Brandt to choose at a given ranking. When it came to No. 19, Kimes offered up the Bucs or the Colts.

Brandt scoffed at the Colts and went with the Bucs, to which Kimes seemed a bit puzzled.

“I think this is the appropriate place to have the NFC South division winner?” Kimes said while sort of shrugging and grimacing.

Brandt explained why he thinks the Bucs are the No. 19 team in the league when the 2024 season kicks off. (He didn’t offer a season record.)

“Baker Mayfield, I can’t quit,” Brandt said. “I really do generally like everything he stands for. And yet, since I know the pattern so well.

“You know it, it’s up and down. That’s just what he is. You don’t see, ‘Oh man, Baker just ripped off three good seasons in a row.’ It’s usually a lot of up and down. Does that mean this is the down year? I hope not.”

Kimes didn’t really argue with Brandt but leaned to the Colts at No. 19 because she is fond of Indianapolis shot-caller Shane Steichen.

“I think it’s fair,” Kimes said of Brandt’s selection. “I love the Colts coach. That’s probably the reason [she leans Colts over Bucs]. He’s a good coach.”

Nothing was said in the discussion about Bucs head coach Todd Bowles, though Kimes already told the world he’s on a broiling hot seat.

Oh, and Brandt has the Dixie Chicks at No. 16 because… Kirk Cousins.

Of course.

Totally meaningless……all teams are tied for first…..or last.

    Let’s play some games.

  2. BakerFan Says:

These guys get in a circle jerk and come up with a narrative that everyone nods their heads too. No matter how ridiculous and lack of any sense, The Borgs just can’t break out of the hive with different thoughts.

Kyle Brandt is a saavy on-air personality because he called Mayfield inconsistent using as many words as possible w/o sounding like an annoyed onlooker.

  4. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

OUR BUCCANEERS EMBRACE THE ROLE OF BEING “THE UNDERDOG”..JUST LOOK AT LAST SEASON..WE WILL BE THE “RODNEY DANGERFIELD’S” OF THE NFL UNTIL WE WIN THE NEXT SUPER BOWL ( WHICH, PROVIDED WE STAY HEALTHY, COULD VERY WELL BE THIS SEASON ! )..THE MEDIA BELIEVES 2020 WAS ALL TOM BRADY..BUT, THE FACT IS..AN ENTIRE FRANCHISE ( A GREAT UNDERVALUED ONE, PUT TOGETHER THE TEAM THAT WON THAT SUPER BOWL JUST A FEW SHORT YEARS AGO..) THIS FRANCHISE HAS CONTINUED TO KEEP THEIR BEST YOUNG & OLDER PLAYERS WHO WERE A PART OF THAT TEAM & ADDED YOUTH THROUGH THE DRAFT & FREE AGENCY & ARE ONLY GETTING BETTER..THIS TEAM IS A LEGITIMATE CONTENDER..WE KNOW IT..UNTIL WE PROVE IT AGAIN THIS YEAR, WHO CARES WHAT ALL THE SO-CALLED EXPERTS THINK ? !

  5. Boss Says:

    sounds about right actually

  6. Fan of the South Says:

Don’t know whether the Bucs should be rated 9th or 19th but certainly the Colts should be ranked ahead of the Bucs.

Looking at 2023 the Bucs were beaten by the Colts and the QB was out played by a Back Up that could only fetch a 2yr/25M contract in free agency. Now the Colts have their starter back this season for better or worse.

Don’t know where Brandt put the Raiders but Bucs might get another taste of that same 12.5 M/ Yr QB carrying a chip to show the Bucs just what kind of great deal they didn’t get at QB.

  7. Permanently Moderated Says:

Good Morning Football and NFL Access were the only shows I watched on NFL Network and they royally screwed that up. Thanks again, Goodell.

  8. bucsfaninva Says:

The NFL network is just…abysmal. Anyone else notice that all references to Tampa’s first SB win are omitted when showing “America’s Game, or, SB replays”? I know it’s Gruden related, but I couldn’t give less of a rat’s XXX what that channel shows or it’s prognosticators and such say. I’m done with them, period. Old man rant complete. Thanks and have a nice day. 🙂

  9. Capt.Tim Says:

Didnt he predict the Bucs would win 4 games last year?
Hes a typical shill for the large city teams.
He was clueless last year, hes clueless this year.

  10. Buc4evr Says:

I enjoy the disrespect, Jason enjoys the disrespect, Baker enjoys the disrespect. The talking heads are going to shocked how good the Bucs are this season.

  11. HC Grover Says:

Sounds about right to start season.

  12. Cobraboy Says:

I just love how casuals in the media can judge a QB who never had any consistency in a HC or OC his entire career.

  13. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

We know the trash heap is constantly churning man be a duck and let it roll off the ole back. One could seriously go on a shooting rampage about all the sh!t that can come to memory. They Never Ever had anything to say about the Bucs on ESPN back in the day bro. I used to go to practices and preseason games there was ole Andy Hardy and a couple of other news guys from around here nothing major. Either some crap one of the players got into or you know may have warranted the mighty ESPN to further look down their nose in some sort of discusted way about us. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!

If you’re not first you’re last

  15. Dave Pear Says:

mr mac – we are fans, our judgment of players in the end is meaningless. For the millionth time, the coaches, players, and Bucs staff has gotten to see your mancrush every day going on four years now. The professionals who get paid millions of dollars to win or get fired if they lose have dexited for us. They’ve seen enough of him so we don’t have to.

Maybe you and the few other Trashkophiles should demonstrate with signs over at One Buc Place. Or apply for a job. Either way, I’ll defer to the experts over an irrational fan with a Kyle poster on the ceiling over his bed.

  16. Calico Jack Says:

Just a thought: Perhaps the dismantling of the NFL Network and its media outlets is a behind closed doors requirement for some of the TV deals they made. The big networks might not enjoy handing the NFL all that money to televise games only to have the NFL Network blow away their coverage.

  17. Gipper Says:

Brandt is just another talking head dud. I trust GM Licht and Buc teammates more than media fools.

  18. Beeej Says:

That Indy game–Bucs were utterly owned at the LOS, they ran for 155 yards, Baker was sacked 6 times

  19. Bee Says:

Brandt is stating the obvious here. Baker was up and down last season and now the team has another new OC. Will it take this offense half a season to gel like last year? We’ll see. 19th is about right for a team that needed a win in the last week of the season to make the playoffs.

Going to be an interesting season.

  20. Fred McNeil Says:

I just don’t see the Falcons living up to expectations this year. Yeah, Cousins was pretty good, but he’s gonna have to tip toe through the mine field this season. Any little rust coming off that achilles and half the State of Georgia will be clamoring for Penix. Some of that will include his own teammates. I see the Saints as kinda stagnated. The Panthers still stink. The division is ours to lose.

  21. Chris l Says:

I like kyle as a person but his football takes are garbage. I’ve watched him on GMFB for years and his predictions are never correct and he is trying to be entertaining. There is never actually any substance to his analysis as to why. A lot of it is knee jerk reaction

  22. garro Says:

Is it possible Brandt has been told to join in on the company line or else?

That surprises the heck out of me from him Joe.

    Go Bucs!

  23. White Tiger Says:

There’s no sense defending Mayfield’s inconsistency. Yes he’s had numerous HC/OC combinations. He’s got some drawbacks and once good defenses get his tendencies, they neutralize them. Now, he also played in a division with some great teams, and he did pretty well. He also has the ability to dial it up a notch at critical moments.

If the team is better, it gives Baker a chance to prove some consistency. The new offense/OC should help as he won’t have the same tendencies. His o-line will (eventually) be better, maybe the run game will be better – but the reality is that media types don’t live the Bucs like we do, so they don’t ignore the historical data like we do.

We didn’t/don’t have a choice – he was better than the QB’s we had, and we can win in this division without a top 10 QB, and we didn’t have a shot at mortgaging the future to land another Jameious Winston – so all-in-all, Baker was and IS our best option (regardless of who currently backs him up).

We have to hope Baker shows some consistency in an offense he seems suited for, and trust that the improvements on both sides of the ball – will make the difference.

Otherwise, I don’t see where Brandt is that far off in his analysis. I just have to trust that the Lichthhouse put enough weapons around him (and in front of him) to give him the best shot at winning.

The off-season is hard – but we beat the media/analysts last season because this team and coach did a good enough job. I think we have as good a shot to win this division again. Once you’re in the playoffs, anything can happen.

    Bring in the season already!
