GM Says Bucs Players Are “Leaner,” More Unified

July 28th, 2024

Bucs GM Jason Licht patrolling the training camp fields.

Lots of Super Bowl signs are flowing at One Buc Palace if you listen to the guys in charge.

Todd Bowles raves about the togetherness and stability on the team and how it’s easier to coach.

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht is sure he’ll have a significantly improved pass rush, and Licht also was talking on radio recently about how Bowles has taking the Bucs’ culture to the next level as players have shown a championship commitment to thier bodies.

“It is this year, that’s one thing that does stand out, how fantastic the guys came back from the summer in shape,” Licht told WDAE, adding that it’s a sign how serious the team is taking the 2024 season.

Players are happy and hungry to play in Tampa, Licht added.

“We owe that to the culture that’s been built by Todd Bowles,” Licht said. “This is a coach that these guys love to play for. They love to re-sign here and come back for. They don’t want to leave and, you know, the head coach drives the culture. And we have an outstanding culture. I can’t think of a better time that we’ve had since I’ve been here, this is going on Year 11, where the locker room is more closely knit than it is right now. You know that started with [Bruce Arians] but now a big factor of that is Todd keeping it going and making it even closer.”

Powerful stuff there from Licht. More closely knit than the 2021 Bucs that returned every starter from a Super Bowl team, and Tom Brady? Wow.

Joe still can’t believe the over-under win total for this Tampa Bay team is at 7 1/2 games across the sportsbooks.

I noticed right away how much leaner and sculpted that Mayfield looked. He may have his best year ever.

I got the over. Easy money.

All he had to do was let Devon Cancer walk.
    So easy.

    So nice

These guys better be in shape with the hot weather coming. However, it’s been great that there’s been some clouds so far to build into hot practices.

Sure the players like Bowles, but didn’t he get a B- in the NFLPA grade? How? I wonder if the the Glazers caught all the shower roaches?

  5. Allen Lofton Says:

With Brady, we had the AB shirtless debacle melt down that had a big effect on the team. That would an affect on any team

    Finish the deal…cut Randy Gregory.

and you were trying to get Bowles fired.

    But you keep defending Hainsey?

Too bad TB12 didn’t like playing for him, otherwise years 2&3 of his term may have turned out much better.

  11. Fred McNeil Says:

I think most of us wanted Bowles fired last November. A division title and a decent showing in the playoffs changed a lot of minds. Winning is the best deodorant. A heapin’ helpin’ of roasted Redskin would be a sumptious September smell. Go BUCS!!!

@JimBob – I believe that grade was for the Bucs org as a whole, and a lot of it is about the facilities. IIRC some the main complaints were locker room cleanliness / attributes, not having onsite babysitting for kids, etc.

  13. unbelievable Says:

@Fred McNeil – 100% spot on. Those last 2 games vs the Saints and Panthers still bother me though. As does the unused timeout in the playoffs while down 1 score. (That’s pretty much unforgivable in my book, but I’m still willing to give Bowles another season.)

That’s certainly an appetite killing mixed metaphor.

    GO BUCS !!!

Coach must get better at managing in close games and I believe Coen is going to be much better than Canales was at managing the offense.

  16. Harold Says:

You KEEP bringing up the win 🥇 totally…….. and I keep saying the Buccaneers might have better Players and a closer team which will help a lot.You keep forgetting their schedule.. it’s harder than any team in our division 🏈❤️😊

  17. Harold Says:

Football 🏈 is a game of schedule and more important INJURIES 😩😩☹️ the year the Buccaneers won the Super Bowl they had ONE major player get hurt the whole year Vita Vea was the only major player to be hurt that year. Usually the team with the most best players at are NOT injured wins the whole thing..🏈❤️😊
