Reaction.

Reacting to today’s news that Buccaneers Ring of Honor inductee Monte Kiffin passed at age 84, the Glazer Family, owner of the Bucs, released a statement.

“Monte Kiffin was a beloved and iconic member of the Buccaneers family, and our entire organization mourns his loss today. As a coach, Monte was a true innovator who got the best out of his players and helped create one of the signature defenses of the early 2000s. His passionate and energetic leadership style resonated with all his players, and he was instrumental in our first Super Bowl win and the success of Hall of Famers such as Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, John Lynch and Ronde Barber. Off the field, Monte was kind, genuine, gracious and always had a positive attitude. He was very special to the Buccaneers organization and our family. We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Robin, son, Lane, daughter, Heidi, and the entire Kiffin family.”

My sincerest condolences to his family. A real life legend!!! Its sad sometimes someone needs to pass before their greatness is universally recognized. He us the architect of done of the best times of my life. Growing up watching his defense play. I always knew the defense would keep us on the game and possibly win it for us. Mad man Monte xooking up schemes in the lab to destroy offense will always be remembered

  4. unbelievable Says:

    An incredible defensive mastermind.

Hated the way he left the Bucs- announcing it midseason while we were tied for 1st place, which then saw us lose what- 4 straight games and miss the playoffs? Brutal.

But that’s all in the past. He was a great coach, RIP.

  5. CleanHouse Says:

Simply the best- pretty good to have a style of defense named after your system.
Lucky to have witnessed that masterpiece.

  7. Brent Clark Says:

Bucs need a memory at the stadium in honor of Monte a statue, plaque, on the ring but SOMETHING! IMHO, This man created a defensive scheme that held water unchanged for over a decade and variation’s still being used all over the NFL, Oh and how many coaches developed into head coaches and other key positions in the NFL… A LOT along with HOF players! We need to honor this CHAMPION not just a mention.

  8. Brent Clark Says:

Damnit in my sadness of Monte passing it completely slipped my mind he was already inducted to the ring of honor, I just really loved this man all the way back to when he was NC State HC.

  9. FortMyersDave Says:

The man is and always be a legend. Man his defenses in 1999 and 2002 were some of the best in NFL history, better than the 2000 Ravens for instance. RIP Coach Kiffen, you will always be remembered for helping make the Bucs relevant after the creamsicle days.

  10. Dave Pear Says:

The genius was its simplicity. Everyone knew their job and everyone else’s job, so each player knew what everyone else was doing.

    That’s not the case now.

A true genius. A true mastermind. A true legend. The real deal.

Thank you Kiff. Pouring another Laphroiag in your honor.
