Cody Mauch Talks Bucs Fans, Youth Camp

July 8th, 2024

Cody Mauch has put the word out. If you see him at the mall or a restaurant, don’t hesitate to say hello.

Speaking at his recent North Dakota youth football camp, via the 3 Borders Sports Network, the Bucs’ second-year guard gushed about his celebrity life in Tampa.

“Fans recognize you everywhere. And it’s just so cool, especially when kids can come up,” Mauch said, after noting that he’s stopped all the time.

“You know, when you’re in the mall and kids come up and they want a picture or autograph, you’re never not going to stop for a kid that wants that. It’s just been so cool down there.”

Joe suspects Mauch, who has fire red hair and is missing two front teeth, got stopped often for a first-year Bucs guard. He’s certainly more recognizable than most players in street clothes.

Mauch added that he thinks Bucs fans have been first class but it was a little “weird right away” to play for a team that wasn’t his beloved Vikings. But Mauch said he “made the switch quick.”

As for the camp, it was a first for Mauch with 300-plus kids attending, which is a huge number. Mauch praised grants through the NFL and the NFL players association as well as locals in North Dakota that helped him make it happen.

Mauch said he remembers well attending a youth football ball camp of longtime Bills defensive end Phil Hansen, a native North Dakotan like him. Mauch said he thought he was super cool from the experience with his camp t-shirt and he wants to pass those good vibes forward.

One small red flag Joe had during the interview. Bucs veterans report to training camp July 23 and Mauch said he’s be heading down to Tampa on July 21.

Joe knows a lot of players like to get in the Tampa heat early to acclimate for camp.

While Joe has never been to North Dakota, Joe’s going to assume summer there is a bit more comfortable.

I had a feeling before we drafted him that this kid was gonna be good for football. One yr in. Time will tell.

  2. Hodad Says:

The young man gets it, good for Mauch. Like to see what he can do in year 2 playing next to Barton, and Goedeke in year three. Only question mark is LG, but whoever wins that spot will benefit playing next to Barton, and Wirfs.

  3. dls5492 Says:

Hope he starts celebrating touchdowns like he did at NDSU.

  4. teacherman1983 Says:

He can put weight on our there.

Work on his legs and lungs.

I am sure by Week 8: Barton, Mauch, and Goedeke will be moving as 1 organism.

Poor Wirfs. He won’t have a great LG for another season.

I want a LG in round 2 next year. No excuses. And hopefully a guy with experience playing center.

After the Jensen injury. And 2 years with Hainsey.

We all see that Center is a top 3 position on offense.

He’s a leader. He sets the tone. Thanks Jensen for showing Tampa Bay what a MAN is!!!

Mauch is going to be great this year.

He’s very fast by the way. If we don’t pull him and use him on screens then we are idiots!

He was a TE. He can sprint bro!

  5. Rod Munch Says:

They still have malls in North Dakota?

  6. Dude Says:

Mauch would be perfect for an Old Spice ad campaign.

  7. SB Says:

We have malls in Montana. But they are meh.

  8. Dave Pear Says:

Another good side. Fun to cheer for a team of good dudes.

  9. Let Them Eat Bake Says:

As for the heat, what I’ve learned living here for several decades is that it drains you. Avoiding it for as long as possible may be the smart move.

  10. Beeej Says:

I was in Tampa, GA, SC, NC and VA over the last week, all are insufferably hot. At least in FLA, women care about how they look

  11. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Rod

It’s still 1863 in some parts..

  12. Dadgumit Says:

Hainsey will be the center. Barton will be LG.

  13. Badbucs Says:

One of the better teams will cut an OL better than what we have. Trade still a possibility too as camp progresses. Hainsey a backup.

  14. toad bowels Says:

Cody Mauch would make a great cast member for Braveheart II dressed as a Scotsman in a Kilt, throwing down a sword!
