Bucs Lose Sua Opeta For The Season

July 31st, 2024

Sua Opeta (left) was competing for the starting left guard job with Ben Bredeson (right).

Sad times at One Buc Palace.

Per ESPN, newcomer Bucs guard Sua Opeta, the young veteran signed this offseason to compete for the starting left guard job, blew out his ACL last night and was lost for the season.

The 27-year-old started six games for the Eagles in 2023. He joined the Eagles in 2019 as an undrafted free agent. He started 10 games — at both left and right guard — for a team that had a ferocious offensive line and looked to be a legitimate contender in Tampa.

Joe suspects the Bucs will move quickly to find a replacement for Opeta later in August when teams are looking to trim down their rosters.

If your looking for longtime Bucs backup guards Nick Leverett or Aaron Stinnie to step in, stop looking. Leverett is on the Patriots and Stinnie is with the Giants, Bredeson’s former team.

    Wishing him a speedy recovery

  2. Pink Says:

This is why I had no problem with wirfs sitting out practice as long as he wants, even if we signed him, knock on wood.

Best Remaining Offensive Guard Free Agents, 2024:

    Phil Haynes
    Halapoulivaati Vaitai

Tough to lose anyone, depth matters, especially on the OL for us, but if someone was going down… it could have been much worse. Feel bad for Sua, I figured he was gonna end up being the guy at LG for us. Sounds like Brederson had a leg up through beginning of camp.

I know he is RG, but I haven’t heard a peep about Elijah Klein. I know I know pads just came on, but any word on how he has looked?

  5. A Bucs Fan Says:

    Is Van Roten available?

  6. kaimaru Says:

Van Roten was signed by the Giants yesterday

  7. Brian in St Pete Says:

Prayers for Opeta. I hope he can come back strong and healthy. But when one door closes another opens. I’m hoping we see Klein get some work at LG in the preseason.

  8. Buc Bucs Bucs ! Says:

Can Donovan Smith learn to play guard?

  9. GoneGator Says:

Hate to hear it… We’ve been so fortunate with injuries.

May be an opportunity for Klein to get reps. I know this guys a long shot but it would be amazing if he could show some starting level potential. He’s got a great attitude, don’t know about his drive and work ethic tho.

  10. 2 thumbs up Says:

    How about Hainsey?

  11. A Bucs Fan Says:

Since Van Roten is no longer available the best guard out there currently is Halapoulivaati Vaitai. The knock on him though is he is injury prone.

  12. Proudbucsfan Says:

I hope Hall didn’t have anything to do with his injury and if he did cut him now

  13. Dave Pear Says:

Keep The Oaf away from Bredelson. He probably derfed into Opeta in the cafeteria while munching on fatback.

Cut the Oaf. Wirfs will probably sign.

  14. teacherman1983 Says:

    Klein just made the team.

  15. JimBobBuc Says:

I really though Sua would be our starter. Good luck Sua!

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Where are they using Hainsey at? Are they keeping him as a swingman in case of injury – like this, or just a pure backup center? I thought he looked good in what I’ve seen of him at guard, and I thought he’d at least be in competition for the job.

  17. Fred McNeil Says:

Ah, cmon Dave. Hall sux but that Jenson accident wasn’t all his fault. No offence intended mi amigo. Your posts are a huge chunk of what makes the comments fun.

  18. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Accident or not, I would not be shocked if Logan Who had something to do with it.

  19. Fred McNeil Says:

Hey, Rod, my impression has been that they have pretty much kept him at center. Joe said that on one long run Hainsey practically destroyed Via. Yeah, I could be wrong. What say you, Joe? Yeah I realize watching linemen is hard.

  20. Jb47 Says:

Tell Ira no more talk about injuries lol

  21. Dave Pear Says:

Fred – I agree with you, it wasn’t all his fault and of course it was an accident. But some people are accidents waiting to happen and he fits the profile. His only two plays as a Buc were when he tripped and fell down and there was a football lying there to break his fall.

And I would still keep him in isolation. There aren’t enough chickens to sacrifice.

But I admit to exaggerating The Oaf’s contributions to any injuries beyond Jensen’s.

  22. Idroolpewter&red Says:

Hope for a speedy recovery. Damn good thing Licht drafted a guard in the late rounds.

  23. Esteban85 Says:

Ok Ira not another freaking word jinxing us on injuries. You did the same thing when Jensen was lost for the season.

  24. garro Says:

I want to see if Klein can pull it off! Loved his tape.

    Go Bucs!

  25. heyjude Says:

Oh no, I hope Sua can recover. Feel so bad for him.

Like others have commented, looking forward to see what Elijah Klein does.

  26. BucU Says:

I heard Jordan Whitehead left with a groin injury too?

  27. Kalind Says:

    How’s about Connor Williams??? Lolol

  28. rrsrqnc Says:

Where is Carl Nicks when you need him or maybe Jason swings a trade for a Pats guard

  29. UGotRobbed Says:

Ira just had to open his yapper about how smooth camp was going! Lol

  30. matthew a veal Says:

hope the injury bug stops quickly. still stung from the jensen injury
