Baker Mayfield Address Tyreek Hill Love

July 26th, 2024

As many Bucs fans will remember, future Hall of Fame receiver Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins’ star, recently ranked Baker Mayfield as a top-5 NFL quarterback.

Joe shared it two weeks ago.

Today, Joe asked Mayfield if he had a relationship with Hill and how he felt about the social media love that went viral.

“Honestly, no, I don’t have a relationship with him,” Mayfield said, referring to Hill.

“I watched him return a punt for a touchdown to beat Oklahoma in 2014 when I sat out. That’s about as close as I got to touching, maybe ever. He’s too quick for me. But no, he’s obviously a guy at a high level so that means a lot when somebody gives you that credit.”

Cool take from Mayfield. Joe would have guessed he and Hill had a prior connection.

Joe will be intrigued to see what Hill has to say when the Bucs and Dolphins practice against each other in Tampa next month.

Dark Horse Prediction: Bucs – Dolphins Super Bowl

AWJ throwing deuces at the Cheetah … would be priceless!

Bucs dolphins superbowl would be epic

Bucs Dolphins Superbowl would make the NFL community flip out. LOL love it. Would be a disaster for the mainstream media

Yes Miami – Tampa fighting for the Lombardi would be epic.

And ironically not in Miami or Tampa for a change but in sterile Allegiant Field in Vegas. At least there’s the strip and plenty of parties but so much for beaches and other great attractions other than gambling and lounge acts.

    Looking around the NFCS …

    >ATL: Starting out SLOW. Just walking through practices. Literally.
    >CAR: Defense is dominating the offense. No surprise, it is Canales’ offense.
    >NO: Already injuries and AK contract concerns.

I haven’t seen a single good report. Bucs are already winning the NFCS.

  6. Fan of the South Says:

Bucs odds of winning NFC are 30:1 and Miami is 12:1 to win the AFC. If there is a place to bet a Bucs/Dolphins Super Bowl matchup it would be around +36000. JTS to win DPOY is a better bet at +30000.

  7. JK Says:

Epic SuperBowl would be TB vs Houston

Browns QB castoff vs Browns castoff draft picks

You guys don’t get that he said Mayfield as a goof?

    ^^^
    LOL Rod absolutely not

Anything to spite Josh Allen lol

  10. Dude Says:

Tyreek Hill also said he’d turn Baker Mayfield into Tom Brady if he played with him lol

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Tua just got a 4yr 212m deal. LOL!

    Wow.

I will say this, I’m not a fan of Baker — not rooting against him, I just don’t think he’s very good — but what a value, the Bucs basically gave him a 2yr / $50m TOTAL deal with a 3rd year option for an insane amount that Baker will never see.

If Baker can at least be middling, like he was last year, and we get some better defensive play with the 2nd year leaps from Kancey and YaYa, and you got a better run game with better blocking, then the Bucs could perhaps sneak into the playoffs again.

  12. Tony Says:

Maybe we can trade Randy Gregory for Tyreek?🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Throw Gregory to somebody else.

  13. Tony Says:

Throw Tryon & Logan in there, too! Yeah that’s a fair trade.🗑️🗑️🗑️🗑️🗑️🗑️🗑️🗑️💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

Cannot wait for the practice with Miami now. Have a feeling that Baker and Tyreek wil be talking a lot. Surprised they hadn’t known each other before. Even during the Pro Bowl together.

Rodmunch, Baker gets $30M guaranteed this year and next year $30M with $20M guaranteed and next $40M none guaranteed. Even $40M is dirt cheap if he plays well

I was saying that by memory, but went and looked up his numbers and some of the early stuff was off. Interesting, and either this wasn’t known at the time or I missed it, the Bucs gave themselves a much more clear out after one year according to Spotrac.

    POTENTIAL OUT: 2025, 1 YR, $30,000,000; $33,100,000 DEAD CAP

Humm… that’s very interesting – so Baker is legit playing for this deal next year. I didn’t realize they could get out of it so easily.

That makes me like the deal a lot more. Even though I’m not a Baker Boi, I still was OK with tagging him for a year just to see if he can improve. I was less of a fan of the original 3-year deal reporting – but was better with it when I thought it was a one year deal.

But in reality, it’s a 1-year deal with some team options. That is much more to my liking since I think Baker will take a step back. But, hey, I certainly could be wrong – my only thing was not wanting to get stuck with Baker if he turns into a pumpkin, and it sounds like the Bucs were thinking the same thing.

His cash next year goes to $35m, then $45m in year 3 – plus incentives, and a void year hit after that if he plays out the full deal.

Not bad at all Licht, I wish they had made this more well known at the time (or I’m an idiot and missed it) since it makes the deal a lot more plateable.

Love plays one year and gets a playoff win after sitting on his ass for 3 years.
    4 years, $220M, $155M guaranteed.

Said before, say it again – Baker’s agent screwed him over again. Look at all the QBs who were first rounders and won 1 playoff game their first 3 seasons of being a starter. Everyone of them banked. Baker should have pulled a Kyler Murray after he beat Pittsburgh for Cleveland’s only playoff victory in 25+ years and counting. Hold out and get paid. Because when you do that, you force the team to believe in you. Every QB is getting paid but him. And every year he has a short leash. And no, 3 years $100M for $33M a year with only $50M guaranteed is not banking. It’s not being an adult to know your worth.

All these lame conversations on this board about what he counts against the cap each year all about team friendly deals. And being team friendly means they have no stake in the player. Grow Up Baker. If you do well this year, as I expect you to. Hold out.

Yes, everyone in the NFL was dying to get Baker, but he took a deal worth 25% of what everyone else was offering to stay in Tampa. LOL!

Tampa offered Baker the most money, because no GM wants to tie their future to him. The guy was literally the worst QB in football over 2 of the last 3 years. Then last year, in a career year, was middling.

If Baker can improve on last year, then he’ll stick around. If he doesn’t improve, and certainly if there is any sort of step backwards, then Baker is getting the boot.

But Baker has a chance to make a ton of money. His big thing is that he needs to be a lot more consistent. Just do that, don’t have so many duds. Don’t collapse in the biggest moments, and he’ll see that full deal.

  19. Proudbucsfan Says:

Rod Munch I agree with everything you said, I was skeptical of Mayfield last season and he won me over but he still has to keep it going and if he plays good again this season he will be rewarded with the big contract extension, but he hast to be consistent every year even bad quarterbacks have good years sometimes. My point is there are Bakerfans on this site that just aren’t Bucsfans and in there eyes Baker can do no wrong.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

Proudbucsfan – I’m not a big fan of Baker, but I don’t hate him or anything – I just hate the Baker Bois who literally pretend like he’s better than Brady ever was and is one of the best in the game, and if you doubt that, you must be shouted down. That stuff I can’t stand.

But, as a Bucs fan, I hope he can just be more consistent. I’ll take the lack of those Packers and Jags games if it means we’re also not seeing those end of the year meltdowns with everything on the line vs the Saints and Panthers. Hopefully he can do it.
