“I Get Picked On About It Every Day, All Day”

Lavonte David

This is one stat that won’t help Lavonte David’s Hall of Fame chances. The man hasn’t had an interception in his last 66 games.

That includes his nine postseason contests.

No wonder Jamel Dean is always smiling.

Joe wouldn’t have guessed David is in that kind of drought when it comes to picks. It’s not that David has terrible hands for his position; he’s got 12 career interceptions, only one less than alleged slam-dunk Hall of Fame Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner, who is David’s draft-class brother from 2012.

David’s interception impotence arose today during his news conference at One Buc Palace.

“I mean, I can’t stress this enough. I get picked on about it every day all day,” David said after a laugh. “I’m always there, but I never just come down with the ball. So that’s just something that, you know, I just got to get my confidence back [in] that. Just continue to work on it but don’t let it dictate the way I play the game.”

Turnovers are awesome, but this is just another illustration to Joe that forcing turnovers does not define a defense. David’s a great player and if the Bucs had the interception-free equivalent at each position, they’d have a top-3 defense.

I can remember some he dropped!

  2. A Bucs Fan Says:

That is the quiet question I had about LVD. What happened to his hands? Did he mangle his fingers over the years and can’t catch any longer because of it? He had sure hands early in his career and progressively declined. As covered in the story they have disappeared the last third of his career.

He makes up for with his TFL’s and FF’s though.

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

David is not my first choice to catch a football dropped from a helicopter to win 1 million dollars. I’d still take him over Dean though.

  4. Lol Says:

LAVONTE HAS TERRIBLE HANDS. I love Lavonte and think he’s a HoF’er for sure. but he has stone hands.

  5. Jack Says:

I think it might be how he’s used, Schiano was a slave driver of a head coach but I think he had the perfect defensive scheme. We have no other linebackers that can reliably stop the run (I love Britt but he’s just not there yet), maybe that’s it?

  6. BillyBucco Says:

I think stopping the run is Britts best quality actually.
That makes me think David will have more opportunities than ever this year.

Britt had a couple would be sacks in mini camp so he can blitz just fine.

  7. Dave Pear Says:

LVD needs to just keep doing what he do, period. He’s the last player than needs to change dick about his game.

  8. Dave Pear Says:

LVD needs to change nothing. Love our LVD.

  9. Daniel Hammond Says:

David belongs in the NFL Hall of Fame whether he gets another interception for the rest of his career or not

  10. SlyPirate Says:

As far as I’m concerned, ain’t no shade sticking to LVD. That man walks on water.

When it’s all said and done, picking the best Bucs linebacker of all time will be a very different question to answer. We should feel very fortunate about that.

  11. Dave Pear Says:

    Amen Sly.

  12. White Dogg Says:

Watch David Ball out and catch 4 this year! I’m ready LFG

  13. teacherman1983 Says:

Maybe would it would it would help if they stopped messing with him.

It’s like negative law of attraction.

  14. garro Says:

If that is the best folks can do to “pick” on LVD then I will take it. Knowing David he will work on it this year and make up for it with a vengeance.

    Go Bucs!

  15. View from 132 Says:

Great Bus, but he’ll never be DB55. LVD makes tackles and plays hard, but DB55 changed offensive gameplans and changed the game.

  16. Badbucs Says:

Nothing better to do guys? Surely there’s someone else you could find something wrong with. Oh yeah JTS all day every day….or Hall.

  17. BucsFan55 Says:

Yea the only thing he is missing are INT’s and some Pick-6’s

  18. garro Says:

Funny that his lack of INTs started at the same time Diva arrived…
    Hmmm

    Go Bucs!

  19. David Dana Says:

    Top 3 defense?

It would be hands down the best defense in the NFL.

  20. TOMMY MORDUE Says:

LAVANTE DAVID IS BEAST !..VERY SURE TACKLER WHO FORCES FUMBLES & RECOVERS THEM..THAT’S HIS MAIN JOB & HE HAS DONE IT CONSISTENTLY FOR MANY YEARS..HE WILL BE A HALL OF FAMER 5 YEARS AFTER HE RETIRES..IF ONLY THE OTHER 10 DEFENSIVE STARTERS COULD SUCCESSFULLY MAKE TACKLES & FORCE TURNOVERS & 3 & OUTS LIKE HIM, THIS TEAM WOULD BE EXCEPTIONALLY HARD TO BEAT..HIS IMAGE REPRESENTS THE BUCCANEERS FOR A REASON..

  21. Noclu4u Says:

If every player on the team was as good at their position as LVD is at his , Bucs would be better than top 3 . They would be the best defense in history . Especially if we’re talking when LVD was in his prime . Every player on your defense is top 3 player at their position in the NFL ! Good gracious that would be an insane team .
    Video game team !!
Has any team ever had pro bowl starters at every position at the same time ?? Not to my knowledge.
