Baker Mayfield’s “Amazing Juice”

June 27th, 2024

No this post has nothing to do with Tom Brady squeezing an avocado and straining beets.

Brady, of course, brought a ton of juice to the Bucs’ franchise. Bucco Bruce Arians even said this month that Brady was the 2020 confidence boost the Bucs needed after not believing enough in their prior America’s quarterback.

Does Baker Mayfield bring Brady-level juice to the roster? He did last season. It was felt from Lakeland to Largo and all over One Buc Palace. Yes, Baker 2024 was better than Brady 2023.

Edge rusher Yaya Diaby went on an excited Mayfield rant last week to a national audience.

“He’s such a great leader for us. He brings such amazing juice and it’s just contagious for everybody on the team,” Diaby told SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“It was so awesome to see, you know, come in there to get the feel for his coach that he had at L.A., and it’s just, I’m excited. I’m like super excited every time I talk about [Mayfield and the offense], I just get super excited because I know we’re going on the right path.”

Joe is excited, too, and feels good about calling the Bucs a 10-win team this season. However, that’s subject to change over the next two months as Joe gets to see what all the new players really look like in practice. (Can Joe get to 11? Fall to 9?)

As for Mayfield’s juice, Joe wonders whether Mayfield can find a new level to get his teammates more hyped and focused now that he’ll have a summer without competing for a starting job.

He could go all the way!

  2. teacherman1983 Says:

Lavonte David is getting his 2nd Super Bowl.

    Jordan Whitehead and Winfield too.

With a professional center. Instead of Hainsey.

    We have a chance.

  3. BucsFan55 Says:

    Go Bucs

  4. Boss Says:

    bake must have a breville

  5. Crickett Baker Says:

Baker, Baker, Super Bowl Ma(ker). GO BUCS!

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I gotta say, I can see why everyone is high on the team this year (everyone local, that is)!

My only concern is Baker Mayfield himself…but as a hater. I am genuinely concerned that he could get injured with his style of play…but that style is also what makes him interesting to watch.

I hope, if anything happens to him, Trask can be good enough to fill in as well…and we don’t lose in the process.

But…I still have to say…Baker does have more to prove to win my complete trust. Last year was a rollercoaster…thanks to both him AND the injured offensive line.

The line might start rough this year, since lines do not get a lot of quality work in OTAs and TC. So I am ready to accept a few games to get things together…but that’s also the period in which I worry for Baker’s health. He’ll be taking more risks until the line gels.

  7. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I pray weekly that Baker will become as good as Drew Brees though…so there is that…

  8. JimBobBuc Says:

I’m a supporter of Bake but also realize he can get a lot better. Many games he started off slow (ME too), but in the Packers game he was red hot from snap 1. I’d like to see Baker improve his touch throws on the fly routes, especially to ME. I’ll be curious to see how he, and the entire offense, handle multiple play calls in the huddle and LOS. Bake and the offense need to get off to a fast start this season as they have some very winnable games early in the year.

  9. Dave Pear Says:

The “we need to see what we have” club will maintain YaYa is just saying that stuff to further the conspiracy, to cover up for the “buddy” system that gifted Baker the job over Kyle’s Trashk.

    LOL!

    I’m at 11 wins.

    Go Bucs.

  10. CleanHouse Says:

Mayfield can’t hold Brady’s jock, so quit with the nonsense about how he was better. I’d take Brady all day every day. It’s absurd.

  11. Dude Says:

    Passion ≠ Production

  12. Steven007 Says:

Bonzi, The thing is, Baker doesn’t need to do anything to win your trust. Because winning your trust accomplishes nothing. Sure, if he has a great season and you decide to like him, bully for you. But you say he has to win your trust like you’re the GM or something. I’ve seen you mention this before and it makes no sense. The only person you satisfy by trusting Baker is yourself.

In general, I don’t care who the QB is because I have absolutely zero control over it. But once we’ve chosen one, he’s my guy until he’s not.

  13. Dave Pear Says:

Clean house – of course Brady is the goat. The argument can be made, though, that 2023 Baker was better than 2022 Brady. Lots of data to support that. In Brady’ lone playoff game of 2022 he did not play well. Mayfield played very well in two playoff games. If you say the Eagles were nothing when Mayfield beat them, it’s easy to say the Cowboys were nothing when they beat Brady because they sucked before and after that game.

  14. VOT Says:

If we use the talent we have on offense most effectively, Bake should hit 5k this season.

  15. Cobraboy Says:

I LOVE this time of then year, before pads are strapped on, when every NFL team will go undefeated and win the SB!

  16. Dave Pear Says:

Yes, Cobra. And Trashk will throw for 6500 yards and 61 TDs, if only we could see what we have. Bliss.

  17. D-Rok Says:

“Does Baker Mayfield bring Brady-level juice to the roster? He did last season.”

Naw. Perhaps he brought Fitzmagic or Gardner Minshew-level “juice,” but it’s ridiculous to equate the GOAT with someone who has not elevated a franchise for 20 straight years, then go to another team and win it all…in year one.

Sorry Joe, emphatically disagree. You are getting carried away with this one. Mayfield is an average QB, prolly the best the Bucs could’ve gotten last year, but c’mon man.

  18. heyjude Says:

I love Yaya’s excitement for Baker. He was the right choice as a QB after Brady. It had to be hard coming in after the goat. But Baker did it. The players respect him too. That says so much and proves to us what a great leader he is.

  19. theKINGpeon Says:

I love the passion in this Joe chat. Batspit crazy or not. My twi cents..Heyjude… Agreed… Baker was the right next move for the Bucs. And I’d also say he’s still the right move unless this year is a complete catastrophe. He’s not a bumb and he’s not a superhero. But he’s a fit especially if the GD running game stops stinking up the place. If we manage 10 wins I’ll be impressed. 10 usually gets you into the dance. And pulling a season like that off and making the playoffs AGAIN while transitioning from Brady and cap hell would be worthy of big time praise. GO BUCS!

  20. Cobraboy Says:

Baker’s juice is especially impressive in the large shadow of the GOAT.

Not many humans could produce under that spotlight.

  21. Biff Barker Says:

Brady retired one year too late. Baker did better last season.

Hey Baker really did get the team pumped up Fans too!

  22. Oneilbuc Says:

What proof do anyone have that say Brady is the greatest of all time ? Larance Taylor said Joe Montana is the greatest because he played in a much more aggressive game than what Brady played in. I think the media pushed that narrative about Brady. And I know when you don’t follow the opinions of the media and people then it’s call hate. Most of Brady super bowl wins the defense was the one’s on the field that made the play to win the game. Now Brady help but Dillfer help the Ravens win their Superbowl as well. When it comes down to it no one really knows who’s the goat of the sports . Because the question remains what if Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, Warren Moon, Elway, would have played with the same rules Brady played with ? That’s the main question and you can go back and look at their stats back than and you can see they would have torn the NFL up with the rules Brady played with. And Moon doesn’t get the respect he deserves because of the color of his skin was the reason why he didn’t get drafted when he came out of college. And he went to Canada and won 5 great cups in a row before he came to the NFL. I guess when the meadi start calling Mahomes the goat every one will be saying the same thing.

  23. An Erection for Sacks Says:

    Um… gross.

  24. Cobraboy Says:

    Deranged, he is.

  25. D-Rok Says:

Oneil, I don’t often respond to your takes, but I’m compelled to do so in this case. When you state, “When it comes down to it no one really knows who’s the goat of the sports,”
I say, Bro, we ALL know who is the GOAT of QB in the NFL. We all know, you know. Not a good look for you, buddy. Brady was by far the best QB we’ve ever seen. At the least, Montana was great, Manning was great, but Brady ELEVATED his teams. Montana did that. Manning…eh, maybe he did that.

It is very well-known who is the GOAT of NFL QB’s, and it isn’t even close. Sure, we could discuss other sports and goats, but we aint talkin’ ’bout other sports. We talkin’ ’bout the NFL. Brady, GOAT, no debate.

  26. Oneilbuc Says:

D Rock . Go look at the defenses Brady played with and I’m not saying Brady suck. Brady is a Hall of Famer no doubt but Brady played in a much softer NFL and don’t tell me about he elevate players when his receivers didn’t have to worry about a Ronie Lot or a Steve Atwater and a John Lynch coming across the middle to they’re head off . How about the quarterbacks back than was able to actually get hit . But in today’s America you can soften everything and still get goat status. Look at Basketball and now football is being torn apart. I think the younger generation where everyone gets a trophy and no accountability is ok now days.

  27. Oneilbuc Says:

And Joe Montana actually won a super bowl without Rice and Taylor!!

  28. Oneilbuc Says:

So I guess once they keep handing caping the defense you guys are still going to be giving these guys goat status? Right now they can’t even determine who should be a Hall of Famer because the game is so water down. If Baker stays with us the next 3 or 4 years he will have 50 thousand yards passing easy and now you can’t even tackle a player from the back anymore? But I suppose to disregard what the players from the past who played in a much harder football? Man please you want to know the proof of that people call Derick Henry a big runningback. Go look up Kevin Mack in Cleveland or Bo Jackson and Christian Okey with the Chiefs those are big runningback who ran through defenders not around or stiff arm a player.

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

In fact go look at Mike Alstott runs that’s a real big back!!

  30. Pryda30 Says:

Like always every offseason most important thing , Stay Healthy!

  31. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Oneilbuc-
Montana won 2 SB’s without Rica and Taylor

  32. D-Rok Says:

OK, Oneil, I’ll bite for a moment and respond, because you brought up some salient and tangent points.

What ferocious defenders did Brady play against during his tenure in NFL? We all know he didn’t play with a Butkus-type, or a Charles Woodson, (or did he?) or the GOAT of DE’s, Lawrence Taylor. Did he play against Hacksaw Reynolds? Did he play against Reggie White?

Hyperbole aside, Brady faced the best in the league for over 20 years. Some real head-hunters. Yep, his Pats teams had some good D no doubt. But he also had some years with average O lines.

All in all, over 2 decades of competing, I nominate Brady as the literal and actual GOAT at QB. Montana is a strong 2nd place, Manning 3rd.

  33. Beeej Says:

In fairness to Brady, it was a given he HAD to have a superior O-line to accomplish what he did in ’21, at his age. In his last/next season, he lost his pro-bowl center and pro-bowl guard, plus the excellent Cappa. He had no chance

  34. Dave Pear Says:

Osqueeltard, the beauty of subjective “best” lists is there’s no real way to prove them.

But the objective lists and people who get paid hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars give us these facts.

Brady has 7 Super Bowl championships in 10 tries. TEN.
Brady won the AFC title 10 times. He went to FOURTEEN.
Brady holds every passing record of any note. Maybe Mahomes will get close and break some. Maybe.

Once again, your “logic” is flawed and incomplete, and your personal bias against the greatest champion of all time makes you bitter and forces you into your own corner, where you can be alone. Alone in your ignorance, and tardation.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

Does Baker Mayfield bring Brady-level juice to the roster? He did last season.

    ———

Ask the Lions on that last drive if they’d rather be facing Brady or Mayfield.

  36. D-Rok Says:

    ^^^Rod, comment of the day.

  37. Oneilbuc Says:

Rod . I will ask this which Brady because the Brady after AB and Gronk was not better than Baker last year to me !! And you know I don’t think Baker is elite at all. I’m just calling it like I see it I think Baker is ok after going back and watching the games from last year. But Brady was not good his last year with the Patriots and his last year with the bucs. And I’m not saying that Baker is even on the planet with Brady as far as his first 6 years clearly we know Brady was better. But if you ask Brady last year with us vs Baker Mayfield last season Baker was actually better.

  38. D-Rok Says:

Oneil, bro, I see you been on this site for many years, and I applaud you for that. You are a true Bucs fans, and I appreciate you.

However, you often say, “Well, that QB or this QB wasn’t drafted by the Bucs, so we don’t groom QB’s.” And to a point, you are correct. Brady was a FA signing, and might I say, what a glorious FA super-star QB signing that was.

And geez, let’s admit any FA QB signing will garner results (wins) in 2-3 years. What did Brady do IN YEAR ONE WITH A NEW TEAM who was a “loser” franchise for at least over 10 years? (If anyone says the Bucs weren’t a losing franchise before Brady is psychotic)

Sometimes my man, the hired gun outplays the drafted player, no matter the pedigree.

    Give it some thought.

  39. Pablothepoolboy Says:

If you wanna look at the very best QB in his W/L for Championships, look at Otto Graham. In his 10 years he took the Browns to 10 Championship games, winning seven. That team alone let the Browns, Steelers and Colts join the NFL from the old All-America Conference. Now listen to this quote, ” Talent alone is worth nothing. To be great talent takes work and effort to accomplish it’s goal”.

That being said every player has to do this and then you have a great team.

  40. Bakersbucs says Says:

Brady Brady Brady the difference between Baker & Brady is huge Baker isn’t a cheater & everyone knows Brady& Belicheck r both big time cheats I will take Baker any day of this lifetime

Who the hell defends cheater u people suck as bad as that cheat

  43. Bakersbucs says Says:

Not only that we still paid Brady 35 million last year for not playing& baker gifted us a playoff birth so thank you BAKER.i have zero respect for that cheating bumb Brady goodridence

  44. Oneilbuc Says:

D-Rok . I see your point bro but we did add 2 hall of famers that helped us a lot bro. But to me Brady will always be a great quarterback but if it wasn’t for AB and Gronk on our offense I don’t think we win a super bowl without those 2 guys that’s all what I’m saying. Superbowls will always be a team effort to me now did Brady help us win in 2020 no doubt. But I just couldn’t stand the fact that a lot of people even some bucs fans that made him bigger than the team. I got called a Brady hater because I didn’t say Brady was the only reason why we won the Superbowl. That’s all bro I never hated Brady like a lot of people though I did. I want the bucs to develop a quarterback one day !!

  45. Oneilbuc Says:

I will say this I enjoyed my bucs winning the time Brady was here. However I didn’t enjoy it like should have because I spent more time defending the bucs winning as a team instead of one player. Because I couldn’t stand the people on here that was only here because of Brady. So I spent a lot time trying to get the our fan base to see it was the team not one guy like the NFC Championship game when our defense stepped up and won that game after Brady 3 picks. And now all of those Brady fans are gone and now we have Baker fans they don’t care nothing about the bucs all they care about is one guy and that’s Baker Mayfield. And if or when Baker leaves they will be gone as well. That’s why I don’t respect people who only follow players and not teams . Right now any one can say they’re a Chiefs fan because only because of Patrick Mahomes. So for now on I’m going to enjoy my bucs like I did back in day. Do I believe Trask out played Baker Mayfield last training camp yes we have the proof on that. But Baker is our quarterback and I’m going to root for him like I did Jamies or any other quarterback that played for the bucs. But at the same time if he plays well I will give him credit just like I did last year. And if he plays bad I will say he played bad . I will call it like I see it because at that end of the day I just want my bucs to win.

  46. Bradley Brown Says:

Well I know Baker Mayfield is going to have a lot of sleepless nights this season because he doesn’t have the complete trust of buccaneer bonzai.🙄

  47. garro Says:

So are we replacing “moxie” with “juice”? Gotta get my superlatives down.

Somebody call Jason and get this straightened out.

    LOL

    Go Bucs!

  48. Jarrett Says:

Man Yall always keep trynna wash out that Lions game so I’m glad to see bucs fans bring it up.

It was mayfield who threw the game ending pick

And it was Winfield jr that got burned by the lions running back.

I do not care that Baker seems like a cool guy.

I’m trynna win the Super Bowl

  49. TampabayDJ Says:

First of all , how dare anyone say anything bad about Brady ! He could have gone wherever he wanted , and he wanted to come to our Bucs. He had zero off-season, and won the Super Bowl for us. And the 22 season was ruined by the AINTS Bounty Gate 2.0 game. You remember when they took out 5 starters in thar game ? Godwin’s knee , Marpet, Lenny , L.D. , and Gronk ! Broke Gronks ribs ! 3 games before the playoffs. And I recall Brady leading a 2 minute comeback in that game, only to have the Defense give up back to back 40 yard passes. Brady in 23 had to deal with his wife divorcing him throughout the entire year . Imagine that if you are married ! He still showed up and played. Baker is a stud that finally found the right team for him . Remember Alex Smith ? Carson Palmer ? Both 1st overall picks that were on bad teams ? When they left those bad teams ,they played up to their potential. Let’s try to enjoy this time as a Bucs fan , because I DO REMEMBER the lost decade ! Bet most of you didn’t go to a game or even keep up with our Bucs until Brady arrived. Bandwagon fans.. Go Bucs

  50. Dave Pear Says:

    Stop feeding the tard.

  51. SenileSenior Says:

People lament that Baker is a middle-of-the-pack NFL QB. Well he is better than that. He beats our former number one pick, Jameis Winston. No he i not the GOAT. So what?

  52. Shane Callahan Says:

Brady is the GOAT, but he retired. Love Baker and love the Bucs! You Baker haters suck!

  53. Marky Mark Says:

The media predicting a regression is self serving. People hate to be wrong. So many writers, talking heads, and people on this board were so wrong about Baker last year that they are trying to write and talk into reality a regression just so they can finally be right. These are not Bucs fans.

  54. Marky Mark Says:

Onielbuc..The extra revenue brought in by the one and done Baker lovers (tickets, ratings, jersies) will help the team now and in the future. In reality by hating Baker you are hating the Bucs. Baker is on the team now. Nobody said he is the only player on the team. But the way the sport is organized the QB puts the ball in play for half the game just like an MLB pitcher. I don,t set the rules they do. Your argument is pure doggie doo doo. if you love the Dodgers you love Ohtami because he is an outsized contributor especially when he gets back to pitching. The jersie sales from Japan will stop when he leaves but the Dodgers can bank the money for the future. If you hate all the attention one player is getting than you hate the team. He is on the team too.

  55. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

The fact of the matter is that Baker did what Brady could not do in his last year. Brady was hurting when his wife took the kids and left. So many things were going wrong and in the end his will just couldn’t force a win to get past LA. So yeah Baker had a better year without a running game. I hope he’s still moving forward from the past BS and yes Cleveland screwed him. What did Carolina do for him? They were so deep in their discust at QB that they just kicked Baker to the curb. Bouncing back from it all he steps up and takes the Bucs to the playoffs.

  56. Oneilbuc Says:

Marky Mark. You missed the whole point . I’m a bucs fan first and yes we are stuck with Baker at this time. I hope Baker throws for 5,000 yards with 50 touchdowns and 1 pick. I hope we win the Superbowl and Baker be the MVP I’m tired of you guys bashing people just because they call it like they see it . When Baker plays good I will give him his credit and we plays bad I’m going to say it. But a lot of y’all think he played good all 17 games and according to some people he should have been MVP if you listen to them. I’m all about the bucs being a Superbowl champion and building a dynasty. If Baker plays as good as Jerry Golf last year then he should get a 5: year deal .
