Pete Prisco Gives Jason Licht Props For Bagging Jalen McMillan

May 2nd, 2024

Bucs WR Jalen McMillan.

Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS cannot believe what fell in Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht’s lap. As a result, Prisco, a stern if not harsh grader of all things NFL, gives Licht props.

Licht landing Washington receiver Jalen McMillan in the third round might just be Licht’s best heist in a while, Prisco strongly believes. He’s of the mind that if healthy, McMillan was one of the best receivers in the draft. Yet Licht snagged McMillan late on Day 2.

Best Pick: Third-round receiver Jalen McMillan will prove to be a major steal. He was Washington’s leading receiver in 2022, with more catches than Rome Odunze, who went ninth in this draft. McMillan will become a good slot receiver.

There is no question that McMillan trying to fight through a knee injury hurt his cause last season but allowed him to be available to the Bucs where they got him. Bucs assistant general manager John Spytek admitted as much on Friday night.

If McMillan is as good as he showed when healthy, he ought to help the Bucs be more explosive.

This was a great pick……..we desperately needed a #3 WR……..needed interior Oline & RB…….we helped our offense quite a bit with these three picks.

  2. ModHairKen Says:

    Maximum value. Great strategy.

  3. Casual Observer Says:

Sure looks like Licht was on target with this whole draft.

  4. SB~LV Says:

    Excited to see him play!
Need some explosiveness in the WR room, we are chock full of pass catchers

  5. KABucs Says:

Nice highlights. This guy can get open and has some sticky hands. CG 2.0 for sure. I’m 2024 excited for this offense with him, Bucky and Graham.

  6. Orlando Buc Says:

Look forward to seeing him in some games and putting it on tape. Can’t win on paper but on the field.

  7. Alstott to Canton Says:

Hope Palmer works extremely harder with Jalen now coming in, we need a good wr3. Canales didn’t utilize Palmer correctly imo, hope he struggles hardcore in carolina

  8. Joseph C Simmons Says:

I really feel Godwin produced better when he was moved back into the slot more often. Now, McMillan is being projected as our slot guy. It’ll be interesting how this all pans out.

I predict that in 2 WR sets Godwin and Evans are out wide (shocker) and in 3 WR sets Godwin moves inside to the slot and McMillan plays outside, at least at the start of the season.

  9. stpetebucfan Says:

I’m curious as to the actual condition of the knee. Presumbably McMillan had to go through all manner of tests before the draft but still fell. Why?

The talent is clearly there so some exciting possibilities remain.

McMillan is fully healed and in top form at the start of the season and another year of healing for CG14 also helps his game.

  10. Tucker Says:

He fell because his production fell cuz he was battling injury Joe already stated that. I see fans say put Godwin in the slot but I dunno if he is the same player mentally after that injury going across the middle dunno if he will ever be the same still a good player though.

  11. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Jalen McMillan is the eventual replacement of Godwin.

  12. JimBobBuc Says:

Since Evans is typically on the left side, it’s good to see McMillan catching balls the right outside quite a bit, but it was hard to tell if he was in the slot – didn’t seem so. Let’s hope he can play on that knee and block. Godwin is a great blocking WR.

  13. MelvinJunior Says:

We desperately, needed someone like him. Hopefully, he is Godwin 2.0 and not Gage 2.0. Mostly, it wasn’t his or anyone else’s fault (I suppose), but that Gage deal killed us. He could’ve really made a difference. Very disheartening. I was a BIG FAN of Mac, especially in 2022 on DraftKings. I said immediately, as soon as we took him (whenever everyone else was like, “WHAT, WHO?), that “he’ll step right in there at #3 while not even skipping a beat… If, fully recovered and healthy.” I hope I’m right on this one, cause he could be a major difference maker for this Bucs Offense. I laugh when I think that ATL could’ve had Odunze and totally blew their chance… Hope they don’t end up with the ‘last laugh’ in about 2-3 years, though. I think we’re stronger than them on Offense now. I mean, Rondale Moore & Darnell Mooney as your #2 and #3 with “Sickles H.S.’s” very own, RayRay McCloud at #4… Meh. They sure aren’t what they could’ve been. It would’ve looked A LOT different with London & Odunze up top with PITTS and Bijan, then Rondale Moore (Louisville Trinity HS) as your #3… He’s banged-up/hurt all the time, too. Their depth seems awfully weak there. We’re just better. I don’t see how the national media is so blinded. They either, don’t have the first clue, just follow along with the crowd, or have zero faith in Baker & Bowels.

  14. Fred McNeil Says:

It sure seems like we got a great value pick there. Another Godwin.

  15. Lord Cornelius Says:

I feel super confident on this pick. When your primary skill set is route running/hands and you still have a great athletic profile it just screams value/steal at where we got him.

I felt the same about Godwin during that draft, except I had Godwin in my mind as a legit #1 outside WR more so than a slot specialist or #2/3.

Godwin had huge production in big games and big competition… specifically against Adoree Jackson.

And this McMillan guy scored in every bowl game he played in. LFG

  16. Darin Says:

We’ll see. For every Desean Jackson theres a Dexter. At this stage it comes down to how bad do they want to work

  17. Rod Munch Says:

I really like McMillan, and have been saying I think he’s going to be the steal of this draft class for the Bucs … BUT, I keep seeing a bunch of national guys who have very bad records with this stuff all saying the same thing. Makes me seriously question if I’m offbase on this one.

I will say, however, he has all the traits you’d want in a rookie where they can play early and contribute, mainly his extremely good route running. The reason he slipped was in part due to his injury plagued year last season, but also because he’s not a YAC guy. Personally, I don’t care much about YAC so long as you can get open and make your catches. To me, from watching his tape, he very much looks like a Godwin clone, and that would be amazing if you got another Godwin at that point in the draft.

But man, all these national guys saying the same thing… makes me nervous and question my take on him, what I’m missing, because if he is a Godwin clone, he would have went much higher.

  18. SB~LV Says:

Now … to see what this OC’s style is like

  19. PSL Bob Says:

What is impressive about this video is Bo Nix. McMillan made some great catches and nifty moves, but Nix dropped it right in the bucket on many of those catches.
Nevertheless, I think McMillan will excel in the slot position. Our already great receiving corps is going to be even better this year.

  20. Stanglassman Says:

    St. Pete.
Knee MCL Sprain Grade 2, McMillan aggravated this injury “multiple” times during the 2023 season. It happened at the beginning of the season vs Michigan. He could’ve sat out 6 weeks for it to heal but he played on it. It was his first knee injury. He’s completely healthy now.

  21. Buccup Says:

    Value pick, for sure.

  22. Crickett Baker Says:

It’s rare when a highlight tape is so long that I almost get bored. GO BUCS!

  23. unbelievable Says:

I’ll happily admit I don’t get to watch much college ball any more these days. So the more I’ve learned and researched on this pick, but the more of a steal I think it was!

  24. Mark A Swygert Says:

Um, PSL, Michael Penix was the QB throwing to McMillan, not Bo Nix. Nix played for Oregon, not Washington. In a few years, we will not be laughing about the dirty birds 2024 draft, because Penix will be the man. But this year, I’d say it is advantage Bucs.

  25. Mike Says:

It could be one of his best drafts in quite awhile. Pretty excited to see how these guys perform!

  26. CJBucsFan Says:

@ PSL Bob……wth are you talking about Bo Nix for?

  27. YaYa Winfield Says:

Lolol, I never knew Bo Nix was black and a Huskie! Hopefully for Atlanta’s sake their scouts didn’t think Michael Penix was a white guy who played for Oregon!

  28. Mr_Barf Says:

McMillan will be an draft steal. ME 2 ability. Great body control. Looks the ball in. & catches with hands out. Even can run our dreaded swing pass behind scrimmage..yay!

  29. MadMax Says:

I finally got around to watching his tape….what a STEAL!

  30. Jmarkbuc Says:

    I hope he’s great ..

    In all fairness

    Portland St.

The NFL gonna be a little different.
