NFL Shows Respect For The Bucs

May 15th, 2024

Bucs in primetime.

Joe was just about outraged when the regiment of BSPNers gathered together to put the Bucs at No. 19 in their power rankings.

A team that advanced to the divisional round, and gave Detroit a strong fight damn near pulling an upset and they’re ranked in the bottom third. That’s a slap in the face.

It’s almost like the NFL heard Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht griping about disrespect and tried to make it up to him and Team Glazer.

The Bucs have four primetime games this season, and maybe a fifth. One is very high profile.

The Bucs travel to play the Dixie Chicks for an Al Michaels Special in Week 5, seen on Amazon on Thursday Night Football.

Two weeks later, the Bucs host the Crows in a Joe Buck Special, on Monday Night Football.

And in Week 9, the first weekend of November, the Bucs will once again play on a Monday night before a Buck-called national audience traveling to America’s heartland to play the Super Bowl champion Chiefs.

Additionally, in Week 16 just before Christmas, the Bucs will be involved in a Mike Tirico Special, a coveted spot on Sunday Night Football facing America’s Team, the Cowboys. Now that’s high profile!

A fifth primetime game? It’s possible. The NFL slapped the slimy Saints-Bucs game at The Licht House in the final week of the regular season as a Saturday/Sunday matchup. If both teams are still in the hunt for a division title, it wouldn’t be a shock if the Bucs play that game on a Saturday night in a Rich Eisen Special on NFL Network.

Hell, that game could even end up on another Sunday Night Football telecast.

Four primetime games? What, did Tom Brady unretire again?

So while most of #NFLMedia looks down their noses at the Bucs, and we all know why, the NFL did the Bucs a big favor.

And if you study the schedule closely, the Bucs ought to be pretty fresh for the Thursday night game and the first Monday night game. Two primetime games in 18 days.

3 of those 4 games before the bye are tough. Ravens, Chiefs and 9’ers. Like to see winning 2 of 3 of those

    “ I plead the FIF!”

  3. Eric Says:

    Looks like 11-6 to me

  4. stpetebucfan Says:

If they could beat the Falcons twice the Bucs will probably be in good shape heading into the bye. If they’re 5-5 heading into the bye with two wins over the Falcons and a win on the road against the Saints they should win the South.

  5. Allen Lofton Says:

    10-7

  6. D Cone Says:

Bucs, Saints, and Falcons all have two Monday night games and all three have a Sunday Night Game.
Looks like Prime is getting a few more good games. They have been the NFC South of Football programming since they started streaming games.

  7. Saskbucs Says:

5-5 by the bye with a 2-1 record vs the South should position the team pretty well. Nice to get extra rest outta the Thursday game before playing the Saints. Surprised we got 4 Primetime but won’t complain!

  8. AMI_Chris Says:

The MMQB had the Bucs ranked #31 (of 32) at the beginning of last season. These rankings mean nothing. Last year’s records mean nothing.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

That Week 16 game can be flexed… so if the Bucs want their SNF game, they will need to earn it.

Also the Thursday night games are a punishment, and man, on the road in Atlanta… ugh. 56-14, maybe 48-20 if we’re lucky? That’s just a game the Bucs always lose really really badly. Just know that, and know it has no bearing on the rest of the season – it’s like if the Bucs play in Chicago, you can mark that as an automatic loss no matter how good the Bucs are and how bad the Bears are – just like if the Bears play in Tampa, the Bucs win. Some things are what they are, and the Bucs, vs the Falcons, on Thursday nights = blowout loss, unfortunately.

4 Prime Time games is nice, but I disagree that it is the NFL finally showing the Bucs respect. Only one is home, at RayJay and the Thursday night game vs. Atlanta is more of the NFL’s bias, that the Dirty Birds are their new darling of the NFC South IMO. KC and Dallas are marquee franchises and if by chance the Bucs show up and give a decent game, all the better. Baltimore? If you had the chance to get out of Baltimore in late October for the warmth of Florida, no hesitation. That guarantees a full stadium for the TV audience.

Even if the Bucs went undefeated in 2024, the offense and defense set new all-time records for points scored and points allowed, Baker has a perfect rating for every game, throws for 6,000+ yds., single digit interceptions, Evans has 2,000 yds. receiving and 20 TDs … add in whatever else you want.

The consensus around the NFL would be that is was all a fluke due to something other than the Bucs achieving greatness.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

    sdm5821 – I agree, it’s really 2 prime time games, but that’s still more than I thought they’d get.

That week 16 SNF game on paper is pretty meaningless since it can be flexed – so for the Bucs to actually get that game, they’ll have to be solidly in the playoff mix. Hopefully they can do it – but I’d say it’s 50/50 at best that game isn’t moved to 1p or 4p.

As for home games… RayJay is 25 years old, and compared to other stadiums its starting to show its age. Still a nice place, by the new stadiums are insane. I assume the Glazers will start talking about a new stadium, or major renovations some time this year, maybe next year at the latest, but it’s coming. I hope they get a huge new ship out of the deal, at Wrestlemania in Tampa, they had a ship that was probably 3x bigger than the current one, and it looks pretty awesome, they need to go full Disney next time – just without the woke BS.

Glad the Thursday away is not preceded by an away game. I said it before, predicting records is like predicting the draft. Waste of time.

Oh man, that’s an amazing saying, did you create it yourself, or did you have a team of researchers assist you? It’s pretty remarkable if you did it yourself, because coming up with something that remarkable, well, generally it can take millions in research and dozens of years to accomplish.

  14. OR Buc Says:

No offense Joe, but 19th is the middle third. Pumped about our schedule! Excited to play the crows and Lamar. Will be a good test week 1 against a very mobile QB.

  15. PewterStiffArm Says:

Oh, and by the way. The San Francisco game, before the bye week could potentially be flexed to a 4:30pm. start if we are enjoying a winning record.

  16. heyjude Says:

Before reviewing the full schedule I was hating on the Falcons and all the buzz on them, and then noticed we have four prime games. However, as others have mentioned they are away games except for one against Baltimore. That is disappointing. The NFL shaded us there. We will be at KC, Atlanta, and Dallas. Ugh! I don’t know about anyone else, but many of us are tired of the Chiefs, Falcons, and Cowboys. With that being said, glad we don’t have a Peacock game!

    Go Bucs!

  17. Bobby M. Says:

10-11 wins seems possible, to get to 12 we need to beat a contender or two.

  18. Bucben61 Says:

Rod Muncher your takes are like a porta poddy…full of sh*t

  19. Bucben61 Says:

The Falcons all time record is 30-31 against the bucs…sorry rod muncher don’t know their qbr…. idiot

  20. BigBucsFan Says:

My best and worst, I see at least another 9-8 , with a couple great games resulting in an upset and a the lions, cowboys games being a coin toss. 11-6 is a real possibility. Great moves since Brady left, building something special,if Bucs can keep it together……. Fire those cannons let’s go!!!!

  21. BigBucsFan Says:

No need for all that bs rod muncher

  22. FlyFightWin21 Says:

The national talking heads have never had much love for the Bucs regardless of the team’s performance. The notable exception being the Brady era. Outside of those three years there aren’t many, if any, Bucs related segments on these daytime sports talk network shows. I understand the loss decade contributed immensely to this perception but it shouldn’t be lingering following four seasons that have included a Super Bowl and three consecutive division titles. Alas, the only way to break the bottom feeder perception is to consistently win and win big. Even then, something tells me that a Super Bowl 59 winning Bucs team won’t get the same attention Pattie Mahomes and the Chiefs get on a weekly basis during the regular season.

  23. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Rod you and your conservativeness type people bringing your political “woke” propaganda here. Guess maybe they should have a ship with a bunch of confederate flags, bunch of dudes in white hoods and burning crosses with police attacking unarmed citizens, or a linch mob scene on it since simple minded individuals like you don’t like to be reminded that those things happened by people like you and shaped the way “those people” act now towards all of us.

    ———

Has nothing to do with the record – it’s just one of those things. Like if the Bucs travel to Chicago, they’re going to lose. Doesn’t matter who the best team is, what is happening, etc etc etc – they just always lose that game. The Bucs, on the road, on Thursday, playing the Falcons, that’s a game the Bucs get blown out in time and time again. It’s just one of those things – people should expect it, and then they won’t be wanting to cut their wrists when it happens. It’s like in 2020 when the Bucs went to Chicago and everyone here was giving the Bucs an automatic win, and I was pointing out the Bucs NEVER win in Chicago – and of course they lost, and people were then panicking. It’s just one of those things.
