Kay Adams: NFC South Is “The Bucs’ Division”

May 28th, 2024

Believes in Baker Mayfield.

It seems Kay Adams doesn’t get it either.

Joe reads a ton of football content from all over the interwebs and man, so many have already crowned the Dixie Chicks rulers of the NFC South.

Hell, Joe even read one of Warren Sharp’s gophers, Raymond Summerlin, proclaim the Bucs are the No. 23 team and he dropped them in power rankings because he didn’t like Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht’s draft.

Interestingly, every team in the divisional round of the playoffs last season was in Summerlin’s top 10. Except the Bucs.

Adams is noticing all the shade thrown at Tampa Bay and she cannot understand it.

“Were they a one-hit wonder with Baker?” Adams asked. “I don’t believe that. But that’s the way they are being treated right now, if we are being honest, right?”

She’s absolutely right.

Folks have suddenly fallen in love Kirk Cousins when six months ago he was universally mocked for being the polar opposite of a clutch quarterback. Did Cousins change his spots all of a sudden by moving to Atlanta?

Adams then noted how everyone smitten with the Dixie Chicks has made Atlanta the it-team this year. The Bucs? Ha! All of this because of a 36-year old quarterback coming off a blown Achilles.

Cousins is the same quarterback who has just as many division titles as Mayfield (one) and half as many playoff wins as Mayfield. He also lost to Mayfield and the Bucs en route to an 0-3 start last season.

“Baker is why this is going to work and why this success is going to continue to carry over,” Adams declared. “I don’t think it’s the Falcons’ division. I think it is the Bucs’ division.”

As the great Ric Flair often said, “If you want to be the man, you have to beat the man.”

Until that happens, the Bucs are the kings of the NFC South.

I agree with Kay …Of course I would agree with Kay if she told me the Yankees were gonna win the Stanley Cup…

Truly, she is one of my favorite NFL folks because she rarely follows the party line folks down their rabbit holes.

    Go Bucs!

Love the closing line. After anointing the Bucs the Division champs in 2024, Adams closed with “and Cam Jordan, don’t bite my head off.” Sounds like Jordan is universally perceived as a major dick.

  3. PSL Bob Says:

Joe, I might add, nice pic of Adams!

Yay to Kay again and again! Agree 100%.

    Kay Adams……Buc Fan!!!

    At least she’s paying attention.

ATL and CAR coaching staffs are too green. Rah has some (not good) HC experience. Canales was over his head as a OC. Now he’s a HC. NO is old and getting older.

The Bucs filled holes. Hired an experienced OC. The Bucs got better. I can’t say the same about any other NFCS team.

All I know I saw baker pull some tricks from up his sleeve last season like the perfect passer rating at exactly the rite time cant wait to c the tricks this season

You dont get called the man simply because you get paid. Anybody who watched this team without the pewter colored glasses (Or their head up Bakers rectum) could see this was a poorly coached team with a mediocre QB that got extremely lucky. Could they win the division again? Sure if the NFC South is once again the worst division in football, along with the Bucs staying relatively healthy along with facing a bunch of teams who arent so lucky with injuries. Which is highly unlikely. We shall see.

Four of Eight teams repeated as Division Champs from 2022 – 2923. This year none are shoe ins.
Bucs are reigning champs but it’s not their Division.
NFCS is a three horse race. Saints have to be included as they had the same record as the Bucs and they played really good football after they pretty much took themselves out early on. New QB in a new system would have been the same thing the Bucs would be excusing poor play away had they crashed in 2023.
As far as Cousins he led the Vikings to a Division title and had worked them back to 4-4 with a win over the 49ers before his injury.
Bucs have addressed some issues but seem to think Coen is going to take the team farther not considering that Canales was as instrumental as any other single thing that raised them above the 5-6 win projection.
Panthers could very well determine the outcome of the NFCS and 3 field goals might not do it. Week 17 could determine the Division with Panthers/Falcons or Saints/Bucs.

We get a Playoff game with another “Brady Banner” NFC South Division Champion.

You can not be in the playoffs, and expect any chances to win a super bowl.

Line up and play beat the guy in front of you, wherever, whenever, whoever. When we have more of our guys, doing just that. We win…

Excited to watch Thursday night Live in the ATL.

    GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!

Sounds good, but we went 3-6 in the 9 games Mayfield threw at least 1 INT and averaged 15.6 ppg in those games.

In the 8 games Mayfield didn’t turn the ball over we went 6-2 and averaged 25.5 ppg.

That’s a touchdown and FG difference.

So Kay has a point, but it can kind of go either way considering we’re in the same boat with a new OC along with the learning curve that’ll come with new installs and the performance of the talent around Mayfield.

    Dude

I know what you’re saying. More than half the year the offense was atrocious.… You have to look at the coordinator who is gone and the O line play he had to deal with as the major factor.
They improved when the OL play was improved by switching some players around. Now they have a real offensive coordinator who knows how to call a real running game and passes more. I think there’s going to be massive improvements in the offense.

We say the defense all depends on the pass rush and the DBs without Davis. Personally I think the pass rush is going to be the best we’ve seen since the Super Bowl run and I think the DBs have improved.
My main concern is ILB depth.

  13. David Says:

Oh, and we should all give thanks every time Joe posts pictures Kay

Dave, I understand what you’re getting at, but I cannot just believe that Canales being gone makes Mayfield better as an individual and while I think some of the offenses poor production could be placed on his or the OLs shoulders, we’ve got to be able to point out when the big names screw up too and how that changes our fortunes in a given scenario, game or the entirety of the season. I’m cautiously optimistic about our offense because of what we have to work with, but I’m not close to thinking we’ll be firing on all cylinders fresh out of the gate. That’s just me, I think we’ve got as many questions to answer on offense this offseason as we did last offseason.

Bucs over, Falcons under. Easy money.

  16. Tampa Bay-ker Says:

Kay with a tan is beyond perfection. She’s smart too.

  17. vadertime Says:

I don’t think Kirk Cousins is the answer for Atlanta. He had his chances in Washington and didn’t capitalize on them. He was with Minnesota for over a decade and he didn’t do much over there except for one playoff win. Kirk has always been about the money. Atlanta is going to find that out when he gets hurt and can’t play. Baker is younger and has a lot of room to grow. Go Bucs.

  18. unbelievable Says:

    atta girl, Kay.

  19. SenileSenior Says:

Kay is very intelligent and actually a good analyst. Baker has a top tier football mind and a good arm. His best qualities are the intangibles of leadership and charisma. Kay Adams has hit the nail on the head. I am not all worried that our Bucs are going to take a step backwards.

    Call me old school.

    Go Bucs!!!
