Buy Stock In Chris Godwin

May 22nd, 2024

Market forecast strong.

If Chris Godwin was a stock, Joe would be loading up. Might have a good dividend, too.

Last year after rare Godwin drama that originated outside the Bucs’ locker room, Godwin was used more as an inside/slot receiver against the Packers in the Land of Cheese.

And, BOOM! Godwin went nuts. He had his best game of the season racking up 155 yards of receiving on 10 catches.

He looked like the old Chris Godwin.

Now yesterday Joe noted how Todd Bowles hinted Godwin still wasn’t 100 percent last year from his January 2022 knee surgery.

Bowles also noted that, unlike last year, Godwin will play much more slot receiver in 2024. Joe is reading between the lines that Bowles expects Godwin to re-establish himself as one of the game’s best receivers.

“He’s an inside guy by nature,” Bowles said of Godwin. “He can play outside, but he can make a living inside doing a bunch of things for us. We plan to let him do a lot of things that he does best.”

So, what does Bowles mean? He’s saying without saying, “Hey, NFC South defenses, you better watch out!”

If Godwin balls out like he did with Bucco Bruce Arians (Godwin was named to the 2019 Pro Bowl), and if Mike Evans has his typical Mike Evans year, this Bucs offense ought to be a fun.

Does this also mean we will be losing Godwin to free agency soon?

    Same article as yesterday.

    Hines Ward reincarnate. Love. It.!

  4. Lt. Dan Says:

@ Show Me: Just be grateful for the content that we get from the Joe’s..especially this time of year. We are heading into the NFL “doldrum” season and any post’s are appreciated.

  5. Doc Says:

Chris just needs to learn how to get both feet in bounds when catching a ball with two years to the sideline.

I am hoping for a revisit of Evans and Godwin strengths again. Thinking we will see it all this season.

Godwin is a good guy. He happily gave up his number 12 to Brady and took another number. Unfortunately, I think he got a concussion in the 2020 season opener with the Saints, and then 2021 was a bad year for him with his injury. He has been coming back though. We saw it in 2022 and 2023. Much respect for his wife Mariah too. Remember she kept receipts.

  7. Smashsquatch Says:

Godwin is Coen’s Kupp. He can expect targets galore.

  8. Boss Says:

We knew this from Brady….but they had to change it lol

[Yesterday’s article had a fully different focus, not to mention different quotes. — Joe]

  10. Dave Pear Says:

What’s the name of the losing head coach who approved of and oversaw last year’s scheme that was so unproductive for Godwin?

Bonus clue – he has also been head coach of the league’s worst rushing attack for two straight years while saying he wants to run the ball to rest his defense.

Double bonus – name the coach who gave up more passing yards last year than all but 3 bad teams?

  11. Joe Says:

    Same article as yesterday.

    Nope. Nice try.

  12. Boss Says:

CG’s stats as of late are a byproduct of both a bad scheme for the HC, to the OC and mainly the QB whp only sees one side of the field and by the time he looks off mike everyone else’s routes are over.

This is on bake, then bowls, then canales.

The more I think about Chris Godwin’s usage last year the more I wonder how he got a promotion

  14. westernbuc Says:

    He* as in Dave Canales

  15. geno711 Says:

A little too much hype for Chris Godwin in my opinion.

He is more Rachaad White than Mike Evans.

Godwin has been a pretty productive guy when it comes to getting 1st downs receiving the ball, and a willing blocker (White on both of those).

But when it comes to yards per reception and TDs in his career, he really does not look special. Better than average number 2 receiver, but I would not be excited about having him as my number 1 receiver. Maybe others would.

A guy to have on the team as your number 2 WR for sure. Just not elite, and not sure that he will be elite this year.

  16. Bobby M. Says:

Canales was in over his head….anyone with any sense would recognize Godwin was at his best in the slot yet Canales takes half a season and being called out by a wife to come to the same conclusion. I think with the line being upgraded, our offense takes a big step forward with the new OC. Better background of playcalling will be evident right away.

  17. Buddha Says:

A novel concept? Let the guy do what he does best! Duh Canales so overrated. Good speaker. Immature coach.

  18. Dave Pear Says:

Who let Canales perform so poorly as to have the league’s worst rushing attack while simultaneously neutering the game’s best slot receiver?

    a.) John McKay
    b.) Bruce Arians
    C.) Leeman Bennett
    d.) Todd Bowels

  19. Booger Says:

@westernbuc – Canales was mostly hired because NOBODY else was willing to take THAT job under THAT owner. That’s the bottom line. He’s in for a loooong road. He had to take it tho… Can’t turn down a once in a life opportunity. He’ll likely never get another one. No ‘established’ coach was ever taking that job.

  20. Marine Buc Says:

The great motivator – Godwin is in a contract year…

Hall of Fame players treat every season as a contract year.

    Go Bucs!

    Lt. Dan nailed it.

  25. Dave Pear Says:

Bucco. Sorry to bring up facts.

Have some roses and cotton candy. Yay.

  26. NJ_BUC Says:

Alot of media want to belittle the slot position but its in essence a starter in any current offense. Some say that the slot WR might be a little inferior, but I disagree. Chris is basically a current Generation of Hines Ward and Hines Ward terrorized the middle (in an era with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed)! Chris is similar and now (with current rules) can attack the middle and punish linebackers and safeties. Let Chris dominate

  27. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

I don’t think there’s enough hype for Godwin. If he is used properly (which he wasn’t last season), this offense will soar. I’m hoping for big things.

  28. SenileSenior Says:

Godwin is a a stud at WR especially in the slot. His injury likely cost him a chance at superstar status but we will probably never know now. Just saying.

  29. Pablothepoolboy Says:

trolls-r-us…Godwin actually has some decent YAC.
