What Jason Licht Likes
April 19th, 2024Wanna try to figure out what Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht likes in draft picks? A stathead trying to see if Licht has draft patterns has documented traits in players Licht has selected.
And of course, with Licht about to run his 11th Buccaneers, there is certainly enough data to try to decipher if Licht has patterns or not.
When it comes to guards, Licht likes guys from the upper Midwest if not small school guys. But former Jets analytics guy Arjun Menon thinks Licht likes athletic guards.
Menon has a web page charting every general manager. With Licht, his guards must do well in the 40-yard dash, three-cone, the vertical and the shuttle at the combine. Licht also likes tall guards.
When it comes to defensive tackles, Licht likes them heavy. Only Chiefs general manager Brett Veach drafts heavier tackles.
You can go ahead and click the links above to see the patterns Licht has compared to other general managers.
So if you are trying to predict the Bucs draft, it may help to monitor this chart.
A look at the weighted testing averages for players that Bucs GM Jason Licht has targeted in his tenure for each position. Generally targets EDGEs who are heavier than avg, and likes athleticism from his OTs with a high broad and vertical jumphttps://t.co/8RTcSBJqWj pic.twitter.com/68EdJMifrJ

Unfortunately, he can’t draft a defensive end to save his life.

Dude loves his athletic freak projects

Time to help the Offense, Jason…..tell Todd to shut up and watch….

Many of the top edge rushers in the draft seem to fit; D. Robinson, Chop, Kneeland, Isaac…

What about the data on K and P? LOL

I would not mind Jer’wan Wilson if the other names are gone at the top of the Bucs board

Heavy Defenisive Lineman are Ok to draft if they have power to go along with their weight. Vita Vea = power, Logan Hall = no power.

Logan Hall and JTS are officially on the countdown clock to obscurity. It’s a put up or shut up season for both.

Byron Murphy plz.

Bro, that obscurity clock ran out already.

Above all else, Jason likes LT’s out of college (most from smaller schools) and then will move them to another position in the NFL. That’s where the athleticism comes from. LT’s from smaller schools is his go-to though as his history tells us!

OMG! Talk about over-analyzing. Get a life.

Not left tackles. Both of his left tackles were B1G linemen.
Guards and centers, yeah, smaller schools (mostly). Hainsey played for Notre Dame.

This notion is kinda silly IMO. He’s drafted a grand total of 3 edge guys during his tenure:
Akeem Spence – showed tons of potential and was having a great rookie season before injuries derailed and ended his career
JTS – clearly a bust
YaYa Diaby – showed a lot as a rookie, need to see him take the next step.
Am I missing anyone? If not, then JTS is really the only bust, as you can’t predict career-ending injuries.

Strange data, Licht recently drafted 290 pound DT Logan Hall and 280 pound DT KANCEY, they are light

IL DT Johny Newton’s comp is Kancey. He’s SirVocea Dennis‘s cousin out of Clearwater FL. If the top-line IOT, Edge guys are off the board and trading back a few spots happens or not. He’d be a great option. The goal is to get Qb pressure with your front 4. Not to get pressure from OLB/Edge. A good pass-rushing DT who can also stop the run is always a good option.

@unbelieveable —
You are mixing up Akeem Spence (5th round NT 2013) with Noah Spence (2nd round Edge 2016? IIRC). Akeem had a pretty solid if unspectacular career with Bucs and Panthers. Same draft as Gholston. Noah flashed then flopped, with injuries having a major role (as you say).

The only thing Licht does is keep this team medaicor by his new thing bringing the band back. This will be another average to below average season Jason Licht doesn’t make real moves to better the team like other GMs try to do. But hey he knows bucs fans will call a mediocre season a good season and he knows you guys will celebrate mediocrey. Next year he will be saying the same thing bring the ban back. Jason Licht will never improve this team and don’t give me that he built a super bowl team because he didn’t. He bought a super bowl team by bringing in 3 hall of famers . He ain’t building nothing especially by bringing back a mediocre quarterback lol 🤣🤣.
