Emory Hunt: Jared Verse Has A Sense For The Dramatic

Big-time players make big plays in crunch time. And Emory Hunt said that’s who Jared Verse is.
The Florida State edge rusher is a gamewrecker. And Hunt, of CBS, told Joe at the combine that when you need a play, that’s when Verse is at his best.
“He is someone who has the relentlessness and has the ability to finish the play,” Hunt said of Verse.
Imagine that, finishing the play?
Hunt described Verse’s impact as that of a home-run-hitting running back. Oh, defenses may hold him in check for chunks of the game but when the team needs a play — bam!
“It’s kind of in the sense of the running backs, I remember studying [Verse] last year because I thought he was going to come out [in the draft],” Hunt said. “Verse was someone who has a great sense of timing that the top pass rushers have to where they go, ‘Hey, if it is third down and a big moment in the game, if we need a play’ — boom! He makes it.”
That was Verse’s M.O. at Florida State, Hunt noted.
“He was doing that for Florida State,” Hunt said. “And I think that is the type of guy he’s going to be. Where, yeah, early in the game he may be quiet and then when there is a big moment in the game — boom! — here comes a play. Or here comes the bat [down] at the line of scrimmage or here comes a strip-sack.”
Joe saw few Florida State games last year but Hunt seems to make a good point. If a game was close, you could just about bank on Verse making a killer play late in the game whether it was bullrushing a left right into the quarterback for a sack or a strip-sack to turn a game around.
Does Verse have a flair for the dramatic? Maybe. Is he a gamewrecker? Sure is.

The Bucs line up Verse, CK, Vea, Yaya (plus Van Pran on the other side) and they are a Top 3 team in the NFC. He’s the best defensive player in the draft. Sadly, I don’t think he lasts past the 12th pick. Fingers crossed.

A great player and I’d love to have him! He’s not going to last long and nowhere near 26. However, a trade up would be too expensive in my mind.

I hope we never draft anyone from any of the Florida colleges. College football fans are usually dumb so then we have all these irrational comments by fans of the schools that never give the player the benefit of the doubt because of where he went. It’s one of the more embarrassing things about Bucs fans.

Most of the mock drafts have him going between 11 and 19. If he actually dropped to 19, which I don’t see happening, then I would expect Jason to try to trade. Otherwise at 26 I would try to get the best Center possible. And no to Latu, the guy is destined to have neck problems.

Dave Pear – there was that one time vs the Falcons – in the 4th Quarter – 4th down with the game on the line – Gerald put on his batman cape and grabbed Matt Ryan by the ankle and forced an incomplete – sealing the all important (not) victory and saving the day like any good superhero would…. So you can’t say he NEVER made a game changing play – there WAS that ONE time… LOL

The Bucs won’t get within sniffing distance of Verse on Thursday. Sniffing distance would be he drops to pick 17 or 18. Then, and only then, should Licht think about working a trade to go up several spots. For that to happen, there would need to be 16 or 17 morons ahead of us.

McCoy is still on the team? Let that go already geez. I highly doubt bucs will be anywhere close to drafting verse. Latu maybe but I doubt that he makes it close either. It would be a home run, but it would be against all odds, that they could draft either one.

Like this guy. He’s a football player, and a stud. Only the best know WHEN it’s time to give their best, and Verse seems to know it. Love it if we could get him, but it doesn’t seem likely.

Just saw a mock draft that had Verse going to the Cardinals at 27… Right after the Bucs picked Chop Robinson. This is from the geniuses from NFL app 🤦♂️
