The Bucs And Tyler Biadasz

March 8th, 2024

So the Bucs brass made something clear at the NFL Scouting Combine last week. They’d like to get bigger on the offensive line.

Obviously, that public wish doesn’t include manbeast tackles Tristan Wirfs and Luke Goedeke. And it’s a very safe bet that has nothing to do with prized 2023 rookie right guard Cody Mauch.

That leaves starting left guard and pending free agent Aaron Stinnie, and starting center Robert Hainsey.

Hainsey isn’t small, but Joe considers Hainsey to be one of these guys that will be about 260 pounds when he retired. He just doesn’t seem like a natural 300-pounder at center.

If the Bucs do desire to get bigger at center, pending Cowboys free agent Tyler Biadasz is an interesting choice. At 26 years old, he’s been a four-year starter for Dallas and made the Pro Bowl after the 2022 season. He wasn’t a Pro Bowler last season, and he’s sort of stuck down the list in a big offseason if you want a free agent center. Because of that, the market for Biadasz could be depressed.

For Joe, Biadasz seems like a real Jason Licht kind of guy. Biadasz is a from a Wisconsin farm and played college ball for the offensive line factory that is the University of Wisconsin. The Buccaneers’ Ring of Honor general manager seems to like those kinds of whole-milk-drinking, corn-fed dudes.

Biadasz is 6-4, 320 pounds and he has more of a rock solid look than Hainsey.

The Bucs may like Hainsey where he is, but Joe can’t say that with certainty.

The Bucs may also like Hainsey, entering the final year of his contract, as an option to compete at left guard while knowing he can be a versatile backup to an established starter like Biadasz.

Joe could envision the Bucs dropping a modest two-year deal on Biadasz.

Would be a good sign, Go Bucs

  2. Boss Says:

    yes please

  3. BrianBucs Says:

It is hard to run the ball or set up an effective pass pocket when the interior of your O-Line keeps getting pushed into the backfield.
Hopefully Jason Licht is learning his lesson about drafting college OT’s to come into the NFL to play center and guard.
If you want to run the ball then get some big guys up front that can clear a path.

  4. Bojim Says:

Yes. The Bucs could use a mine named Badazz.

Mike Greenberg is going to have his work cut out for him this year

Let’s be honest – Hainsey is THE WORST starting center in the NFL.

THE WORST – and he has had two full seasons to show any improvement and has not developed as we all hoped he would.

The major crime is we had to give this guy a $2M raise this year due to the BS NFL rules.

Either draft a real starting center or pick one up in FA.

  7. It's Corn Says:

    That sounds really good actually.

  8. It's Corn Says:

    Especially the part about “corn-fed”.

I get he might not be the best center but the one thing is he’s durable. It’s a very physical position and he’s proved now for 2 seasons in a row that he doesn’t miss games. Bring in someone better but keep hainsey as the back up

  10. Joe in Michigan Says:

If the Bucs can do this, it’d be great.

  11. Buccos Says:

Hainsey would be an awesome backup G/C. Possibly the best backup center in the NFL. But I too would like to see a new C. Hainsey doesn’t hold up well against the better DT’ s in the league

  12. Rick Says:

If the plan is to move Cody Mauch to center, then we need to pick up a big guard or two and we will be all set.

  13. ^^mtn^^ Says:

    Biadasz, cool last name.

  14. Leopold Stotch Says:

I honestly don’t know why Jason hasn’t drafted any linemen from Wisconsin. I’d love to get Bartolini from there.

  15. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Lloyd Cushenberry III ?

  16. gp Says:

    Lloyd the Thoid?

  17. ATLBUC Says:

With a name like Badazz you can’t go wrong

    HE should be affordable

I know people are generally ok with Goedonkey now.

He got abused in the Lions game, although at least one skill he seems to possess is getting away with holding, and when you can’t block, that’s important.

But Jason knows better than me. Meanwhile, upgrading the OL especially the middle has to be a priority to implement Todd’s 1968 vision for his offense.

  20. ^^mtn^^ Says:

    LOL

There’s a ton of 1st rnd OTs if they want to move him back inside

  21. Nick2 Says:

Seen Hainsey get blown up by too many big nose tackles to want him anywhere but where he started on the bench. Hes a great backupp no more.

  22. ^^mtn^^ Says:

    Yes, b/u G/C, depth/ competition

  23. SlyPirate Says:

BADASS FIND, JOE! Signing him would be fantastic.

    Dave Pear Says:
Goedonkey got abused in the Lions game

    Huh? …
We have a different recollection of Goedeke vs Detroit. Look at the stat line for Aiden Hutchinson from Game 1 vs Detroit. Goedeke absolutely OWNED Hutch all game.

Here’s a clip of all 14 GvsH snaps to refresh your memory …
Google: JoeBucsFan Luke Goedeke 14, Aidan Hutchinson 0

In game 2, Hutch got one sack. All the other pressures and sacks came from the secondary and LB. That’s not on Goedeke.

  24. ChiBuc Says:

Nice look, Joe! Better off with a pyramid than a top at center. Licht does like those ginger OL

  25. Kidfloflo Says:

Do u pronounce that dude’s name phonetically as Badass!? Cause if you do…I’d sign him on that alone!!

  26. Mike Says:

Whatever Licht can do to improve the line will be welcome!

  27. ^^mtn^^ Says:

    a red headed Biadasz

I hope they make this purchase as Hainsey is not getting any push and minimal results in the run game. We also need left guard from FA. These guys from the draft take at least a year to acclimate, cody mauch looks like a kid. He needs to beef up. It was the the same with Alex Cappa –took him at least a year to get solid. lets use our 2nd round draft pick on Trey Benson.

  29. Brian in St Pete Says:

“Hopefully Jason Licht is learning his lesson about drafting college OT’s to come into the NFL to play center and guard.”

Like Ali Marpet, Alex Cappa, and Cody Mauch? Oh and Ryan Jensen also played OT in college, so yeah hopefully he doesn’t go down that road anymore…

  30. teacherman777 Says:

    @marine buc

    Thank you.

Hainsey is easily the worst center in the NFL.

We destroyed Toms last year by trying to be cute.

We went with Hainsey and college RT playing LG. (Goedeke).

Licht stuck with Benenoch took long also.

First round or 2nd round center.

Wirfs and Goedeke and Mauch deserve an elite center.

    Build the trenches!

  31. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Yep, mirroring my thoughts. Saw Tyler “Bad-a$$” was a free agent this year, thought he would be a great pick up if they can swing it. A Badger from college just like Wirfs. Those guys are rock solid meat eaters

  32. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Correct about Hainsey not naturally thick Joe. He’s smart and athletic enough to be the ideal 6th man to rotate into every position on the OLine. Just not solid enough to be the guy in the middle

  33. Ben Says:

Id love to add another big center. JPJ will likely be a reach, so adding this dude would be wise. It would be great if Biadasz and Barton made their way to the Bucs. Thats a big and talented o line!
