Shady McCoy: Baker Mayfield Compares To Ryan Tannehill And Jameis Winston

March 6th, 2024

Former Bucs, Bills, Eagles and Chiefs running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy seems like he wants to scream anytime somone suggests Baker Mayfield is a top quality starting quarterback.

One of these days, Joe expects Mayfield to actually need to be restrained on his FS1 show.

McCoy simply can’t comprehend Mayfield being considered a franchise quarterback.

“Who’s knocking on Baker’s door like that? ‘We need him?'” McCoy asked rhetorically.

McCoy then proposed a “serious question.” To paraphrase, he explained that one year ago nobody in their right mind would consider Mayfield better than Ryan Tannehill.

“So it’s like, let’s not forget who [Baker] is,” McCoy said. “I think he had a good year and I don’t want to take nothing from him. … When you asked me about an extension — how much? Because we see what happened in New York with Daniel Jones. We knew he was weak. We knew he was [below] average. And they paid him, and you see what that looks like.”

Jones is earning about $40 million per season and McCoy says the Bucs paying Mayfield would be a Daniel Jones-like mistake.

McCoy’s co-hosts were not slapping around Mayfield like he was.

Then, Joe lost nearly all respect for McCoy when he said determining who is the better quarterback, Jameis Winston or Mayfield, would be a difficult task, so the Bucs might be wise to look at other QBs in free agency.

Both Winston and Tannehill are pending free agents.

Shady McCoy…that’s a made up screen name.

  2. ATL_Buc Says:

Strangely… I would bring Jameis back as a backup. He knows the organization, the town, Why not?

  3. zzbuc Says:

As much I cant stand Shaddy, I think he is right…..

I would love to get baker back, but on the 25mm range, not 40…..

He is not worth that money, if has another great season well I agree he belongs to the 40mm range……Need to see more consistency…IMO

  4. D Cone Says:

Jones is earning about $40 million per season and McCoy says the Bucs paying Mayfield would be a Daniel Jones-like mistake.

Only 81 million is guaranteed to Jones and Giants are already regretting the Deal.

Who knows. Jones might end up like Russell Wilson before Free Agency starts.

Imagine that two Big Money Deal QB’s signing for about 1.4 million. That could deflate the market a bit if not have GM’s a little hesitant to give away the store.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m ok with decent money for Mayfield…..$25/30…..but above that should be all incentives.

  6. Marine Buc Says:

I would say that Baker compares to Geno Smith, Derrick Carr and Russ Wilson…

Not bad NFL QBs but not top ten and definitely not “elite”.

  7. Dew Says:

I’m old enough to remember Shady doing stretching exercises while the National Anthem was playing. Hes a scumbag imo.

  8. HC Grover Says:

We will find out in the fall. Now is just speculation. Bucs should win the conference and a SB berth if Bakefield is a top tier QB as many claim. This is just pre season sportsbabble.

  9. Conner50 Says:

I’m not huge on Mayfield I don’t think he’s elite but he’s definitely better than crab boy, Mr.Thirtyforthirty never seen the playoffs because he just turns the ball over like a bad habit .

  10. Boss Says:

finally some common sense from an OG…

yall talking bout signing jameis?? WTF are yall smokin?

We have a QB that trained under the greatest of all time AND outplayed our current QB………never given a shot and yall wanna sign an idiot and extend.

Trask should be SCREAMING for a trade. the fact that he is not is cause for concern though…

  11. TB_MikeB Says:

Shady is the dumbest of all the talking heads on tv

  12. TB_Stats Says:

McCoy also laughed in Josh Allen’s face when he said he rates Baker’s arm.

    He hates him.

  13. pmarcello Says:

Jones never walked on at two n=major university s and won the Heisman, then revived the moribund Cleveland organization all before he got hurt. Then we watched him bail into LA on a thursday night and defeat the Raiders with a walk off TD pass outperforming Derek Carr along the way. Then he signs with Tampa for peanuts and wins over the BUC super bowl vets who like him so much they throw in with him to win the division out performing all preseason predictions and making all the pundits [except Chris Speilman] 180 degrees wrong.Including McCoy who has one of two problems . He is sour grapes jealous because Baker is about to pass go and collect 200 million dollars. Or Mr McCoy is suffering from the subtle under currant of racism that every one can see and read between the lines coming from some of the pundits and what is really being said.

  14. CrackerBall Says:

“Strangely… I would bring Jameis back as a backup. He knows the organization, the town, Why not?”

This must be a troll. I think the name “ATL_BUC” says it all…

    Blasphemer!

  15. JimBobBuc Says:

Spotrac has Baker at $27.1M. I see Baker as better than Jameis or Jones but I hope the Bucs hedge their bets with incentives. Baker’s stats last year rank him in the #11-#18 range of QB’s.

The question is will he do better or worse next year?

  16. BakerFan Says:

McCoy is someone that know about sucking….. His last year in Buf, his year in KC, and his year in TB ALL SUCKED.

The dude probably has pissed away all his money. I am sure there are GM’s in the league that say “What does Shady think” like ummm NOONE

  17. Couch Fan Says:

I’d take Jameis over Mr. 3 and out aka Captain Garbage Time anyday, all day and twice on Sundays. 4k yards in a 17 game season was a bad season for Jameis. But the Fan Boys act like its the greatest season ever. Ridiculous. Only thing more comical than their opinions is the fact they call everyone else dumb. LMAO

  18. doolnutts Says:

I dont think its 40 mill I think that’s a load of crap LOL… Evans just took a team-friendly deal why wouldn’t Baker? I said this already but JL has built a culture and people want to not only come here but stay here after they do.

  19. Dubcity Says:

He also said the 20th rank was fair.. which I agree with.. Shady knows more football than everyone on these boards… lose all the respect for him you want… he’s a potential HOFer and his opinion is more valid than any of us

Also… Baker is still unsigned… this says the Bucs agree at least some if from reports, Baker and Bucs still far apart

  20. LANshark Says:

I’m tired of hearing Baker is an ‘average qb’ based mostly on his win/loss record.

Let’s examine that theory. Before Baker was drafted in Cleveland, the team was 4-44 in the previous three seasons (.083 wins). His first three years (2018-2020) the team was 24-23-1 (.500 wins). So, by the theory that the QB is responsible for all of the improvement (that’s a given, if you accept that a QB is what is record says he is), Baker was responsible for increasing Cleveland’s wins by .417 … which is one heck of an improvement. By the same theory, if Cleveland had been 24-24 over the previous 3 years, they would have been something like 42-6 …

Do you now see how stupid it is to say a QB is what his record says he is?

Clearly, Baker improved Cleveland from a historically putrid team, to at least an average team, and in 2020 a near AFC Championship team. Put it to rest people.

What do you think Tampa Bay’s record would have been last season if Trask had been the starter? The pundits said anywhere from 2-15 to 5-12….

  21. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Honestly people need to stop obsessing over potential money. If you want Baker back at 25 but not 30, and so on, that difference is not going to be that impactful. It’s all about whether he plays well or not.

If he plays as well or a bit better than last year 40 may be overpaying, but not a lot. And if he stinks 20 is way too much.

Also, don’t forget two important things. It’s not our money, and the cap goes up every year. Last year’s 40 is not the same as this year.

  22. WillieG Says:

Hey McCoy, Mayfield didn’t single handily lose 6 games last season, like Winston did in the past.

  23. UKBuccaneer Says:

I’d take Jameis back as backup on league minimum, sure. Send him in to take a knee – it’s all I’d trust him to do.

  24. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

    Tampabaybucfan Says:

    ===============================================
    ^^^^ I 100% agree with this.

I do believe that Mayfield can have an even better year if the Bucs add some help around him with another RB, WR #3, and upgrade the O-line.

But given his inconsistent history, I wouldn’t want to guarantee more than 30 million per season. I’d pay him 25 with realistic incentives boosting it up to 35, and 40 if he gets us to the Super Bowl.

    …….

Hall of Famer, what HOF? The watered down Rock N Roll HOF. His numbers are not HOF #’s, had a year he went for 1600, that is about it. Now he may know football, but he does seem to have some ax to grind with Mayfield.

  26. Youthxattack1 Says:

Mayfield worries me. He did have a good year, but how many times did he bail us out with his feet and make those tough runs that saved a lot of games for the bucs? I don’t think that aspect of his game is sustainable. Without that can he still win games?

Jameis clearly has the talent to back up a starting NFL QB. But I’m sure he wants the chance to compete again as a starter. I hope he does get that chance somewhere. He did pretty well when starting for the Saints under Sean Payton who kept Jameis on a pretty short leash.

Put in his contract an incentive of a couple of pallets of crab legs if he keeps his TD to INT ratio within a certain range and he should be good. 😉

  28. Buccos Says:

I remember hearing that Shady acts like a jerk and doesn’t tip at restaurants. And yes racism is a factor too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bake get $40mm a year just like Jones. Everyone knows he is better than Jones along with the salary cap going up. Not to mention he is the number one free agent QB this year and he is a leader with an infectious personality and a rocket launcher for an arm. I would actually be surprised if he signs for less than 40

    ……
Denver and Peyton have an opening, but I have not heard his name associated with Denver at all.
I think a lot of teams will take a hard pass on him given the stupid stunt he pulled on the last play of the game. Coaches expect you to run the play that was called.

    ==========================================

I wasn’t suggesting bringing him back to Tampa, but if he is coached properly as he was under Sean Payton Jameis can be good.

In 2021 (before he got injured) Jameis had a 102.8 QB rating and a TD-to-INT ratio of 14 TDs to 3 INTS.

Denver is in cap hell after releasing Russell Wilson and will have to do some shopping at the Dollar Store like Tampa did last season. I wouldn’t be surprised if they bring Jameis into training camp just because he knows Payton’s offense and can help out all the others.

Added to what I wrote above, DenverSports . com website DID mention his name yesterday as an option, but he was one of about 20 options. 😉

Out of the 20 though he knows Payton’s offense better than anyone on the market. Even if Payton has no intention of letting him compete for a starting job he would be valuable in training camp to help any others that are brought in.

Maybe so, but I have been somewhat following both Denver and Raiders and his name has not came up at all. I live in KC Chief land so those divisional teams interest me.

BTW Denver is dealing with Wal-Mart money, so this cap thing is not that big of an issue as it seems to be with the Tampa Bay folks. I think they were fully aware of the issues but want to get rid of Wilson that bad.

You can go over the cap, it is expensive but you can go over.

McCoy is someone that know about sucking…..

While just because someone played the game does not mean they will be a good analyst.

However, if you’re valuing someone based upon their playing career, Shady McCoy made the NFL all decade team for the 2010’s at running back. Take that in. That is not someone that has sucked in his NFL career.

In fact, that is a lot less sucking than Baker Mayfield in his career.

You are today making the narrative only about won/loss record.
That is one of the things.
How he does comparatively speaking to other quarterbacks statistically.
We utilize that as well. Look at QBR, look at passer rating.
Did you consider all NFL personal scouts last season that had him ranked 101st best free agent on NFL.com. Or other services.

  39. Gerald Says:

Didn’t Jameis already crap the bed with the Bucs. I just to this page to laugh at the insane comments 😂

  40. Show Me the TDs Says:

Baker has enough “MOXIE” for a 9-8 record in a lousy division. He is an average quarterback. If the Bucs and the Baker fan bois want to settle for mediocrity or worse for the next 2-3 years go ahead and sign him. I can’t wait for the game day comments next season.

If you do a search using these terms…
    Denver broncos news JAMEIS WINSTON
… you’ll see his name come up quite a bit with some naming him as the best bridge option for Denver. (Mile High Report is one of those sites but there are others)

  46. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

The biggest difference between Mayfield and those other guys (Tannehill and Winston) is that, like all competitors, he wants the ball in crunch time, and I’m sure Tannehill and Winston do as well BUT I think Mayfield’s teammates want the ball in his hands also, not so much for the other two guys.

It’s not like Mayfield is the “Comeback kid” or Michael Jordan/Tom Brady put the team on his shoulders kind of special, but he has more damn fight than most QBs.

It’s those intangibles that make guys leaders and get the troops to rally behind then. Mayfield has had a spotty past with well-documented disorder and disruption around him in Cleveland and elsewhere. He’s 28 which is like finally coming out of puberty for an NFL QB. Give him a stable organization, and I think the Bucs can, and we could really see him grow.

There have been countless physically amazing and talented QBs over the years who never did any more than put up big numbers and choke or fizzle come playoff time. There was something missing. That intangible.

It’s like the old Red Sox days. They’re down a run in the bottom of the 9th in a big game. Big Papi David Ortiz wants the bat in his hands. His teammates want it. The fans want it. Why? Because they believe. He didn’t always pull it out but you could bet the pitcher was nervous.

I have faith in Mayfield. Forget his past. I think his future has a tremendous upside if the Bucs handle their business in the front office and on the field. He may let me down, but I’d rather roll with him than Tennehill, Winston, Carr, Jimmy G, etc. All talented guys but missing that little intangible. (I won’t call it “moxie”. How about “guts”?)

  47. Capt.Tim Says:

    McCoy is ghetto.
.he can run fast. But Im not asking his advice on Stocks, business mangement, politics.

    ——————

You want stats? Go compare their career stats. Baker comes out on top in almost every metric. Most notably interceptions.

The worst thing about Jameis though wasn’t just the number of interceptions- it was the number of interceptions early in drives, deep in our own half. Pick-sixes. He also rarely threw one interception in a game, you always felt he was gonna throw none, or completely crap the bed.

you can’t win a championship with Jameis Winston. Guy still can’t read a defense. Bum.

QBR is an ass ‘stat’ and everyone knows it.

Career yards, TD’s, wins, interceptions. Baker edges Jameis, not by a lot (except ints where he’s miles better).

Jameis is a solid backup, no doubt. Nothing more.

  69. Patrickbucs Says:

Sean Peyton literally quit on the Saints with Winston on the roster. Winston has yet another free agency year where all of the GM’s (that are paid highly to judge QB’s) surely will not get any starting offers yet again. Not sure about the Winston stats and love, he’s a video game QB, not a starter in the NFL.

  70. Couch Fan Says:

Yup like usual, the fan boys making excuses for Baker when the stats dont favor his “eliteness” LMAO. Pathetic.

Btw Bakers last interception in Detroit was worse than any Int Winston ever threw. And that was the biggest moment of his career. But I’m sure the fan boys dont want to talk about that either.

  71. Bucben61 Says:

Couch turd…the more you talk the dumber you sound…who helps you to wipe after you crap

  72. SlyPirate Says:

    I don’t disagree. Mayfield isn’t top tier.

    REALITY CHECK …
The Bucs won 1 game against a +.500 team during the regular season.
Mayfield led the team to wins against bad teams.
A long, expensive deal will likely cost the Bucs.

  73. Patrickbucs Says:

  74. Couch Fan Says:

  75. Couch Fan Says:

Hey Patricia, a pick 6 doesnt mean worst int. You do realize a good throw could also be returned for a pick 6 right? I understand you Baker fan boys dont understand football very well but at least try to sound intelligent instead of just rambling to defend the honor of your mediocre man crush.

  76. Bucben61 Says:

Couch turd just upset he has a 2 inch penis

  77. Patrickbucs Says:

  78. Bucben61 Says:

Winston threw 6 pick 6 interceptions his last season here…first ballot hof….sure

  79. GrafikDetail.com Says:

  80. heyjude Says:

No to Winston. He had his time with us as a first round draft pick. He and Baker are not the same at all. Like others have commented, I could see him possibly go to the Broncos. You never know.

  83. ^^mtn^^ Says:

If he wants to play hardball, let Atlanta pay him 160 for 4.

Roll with Trask, Wolford & JJ if he falls to 26 or Pratt later in the draft. Or sign a vet like Brissett.

I’m not a Traskateer or a Baker lover, so don’t anyone try to put me into your delusional mold.

Trask, if I had to GUESS, is a Brad Johnson type QB.

Brad was physically tougher that Kyle is, but my GUESS is that Kyle gets up to speed quicker in his career than Brad did.

Kyle is heady, more mobile than most think and would protect the ball.

Can the Bucs win a SB with a game manager Trask at QB (if that’s his ceiling)?

    Answer: They won with Brad.

Brad won with an epic, elite defense, but Kyle would presumably have a better offense than Brad had under Gruden

I’m just finding it absolutely hilarious that the majority of posters bringing up Trask are the Baker Bois. Not understanding why you are so obsessed with his name

  87. Funderstruck Says:

If you ever watch that show, Shady and James Jones take their cues from Joy Taylor, who despises Baker. Even the line about knowing what you have in him, it’s straight from Joy’s mouth early in the season when she refused to give him credit. Only Emanuel Acho can debate her, because he is a meticulous, planning, broadcaster who is up to the challenge.

Joy is a bully, but she’s pretty and you can just SEE those other two melt when she pushes back. They just don’t want her to not like them, because their cushy retirement jobs would go away.

Winston had Bruce Arians coaching him his last year in Tampa and went 7-9

    ———

Actually Winston won 9 games in 2019, and he didn’t need 17 games to do it. Matt Gay, meanwhile, single handedly lost two games.

Anywho, let’s look at the number since you brought it up.

    2019 Bucs offense ranking – points: 3rd (t)
    2023 Bucs offense ranking – points: 20th

2019 Bucs defense ranking – points allowed: 29th
2023 Bucs defense ranking – points allowed: 7th

2019 Winston QBR: 55.7 (in a terrible, awful year according to you all)
2023 Baker QBR: 54.4 (in a career year, proving he is a franchise QB)

Also, in 2019, you lose Evans and Godwin, and were down to having to start Perriman and Watson at the end of the year. Did you see how bad Watson made even Mahomes look? Bad enough that morons on this site are comparing Baker to Mahomes, that’s how bad.

No to Winston. He had his time with us

    ———-

I’d take the 2015-2021 pre-injury Winston any day of the week over Baker, but it is worth pointing out that after Winston came back from injury, he didn’t look like Winston. He seemed very hesitant with the football, and frankly hasn’t looked like he could drive it as well. Also since he’s lost even more weight in New Orleans, he hasn’t been particularly durable and he seems to know that. In Tampa he’d hang in the pocket for a long time and would take big hits, with the Saints, he seemed like he’d get rid of the ball and not hang in there as long to make plays.

So while I’m having fun mocking the idiot Baker Boi(s), I do not in fact want Winston back here as a starter. Also I’m not sure he’s a great fit for this offense, although he can certainly run better than Baker. But in fairness to Baker, he did an excellent job most of the year handling pressure, not panicking – but historically he’s been awful under pressure, so we’ll see if there’s regression or not.

    ———–

In fairness to Carr, he’s a career middling QB, who knows how to game the passer rating system — by dumping off the ball on 3rd down and running up his completion percentage. But Carr has been very consistent, you know what you’re getting.

As for Baker, in a career year, he’s Derek Carr.

If the Bucs knew they were going to get a consistent Derek Carr, well, you can win with that – so long as you’re not paying that guy franchise money.

  94. White Tiger Says:

Shady is shady. He’s a washed up RB that soaked up cap space from several teams – he’s now an idiot with really bad takes.

    @Rod Munch
I was one that had high hopes when the Bucs signed Winston, after watching his FSU QB career.

You may be right about Winston and his injury, and I always thought he looked like a deer in headlights looking down the field. Heard he had laser surgery after the Bucs, but it didn’t seem to help. He did lose weight too. He and Payton seemed to have a good relationship. But you never know.

I am hoping for Baker to stay. Last season was only his first year. He knows the team. And now Evans and Winfield are staying.

  98. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’m not a huge Baker Mayfield fan…but I KNOW he is better than Jameis Winston.

  99. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Spotrac Market Values:

    Mayfield: $27,000,000+

    Winston: $2,757,625
    Tannehill: $4,967,594

I would actually put Mayfield’s value at around $15-$20,000,000 myself, judging by what he showed last year. But going by Spotrac, he is clearly better than those two.

  100. Rod Munch Says:

heyjude – Keep in mind, when Winston was here, he set every Bucs offensive passing record up to that point.

But he also had, from 2015-2019, the NFL’s worst defense over that period, and the NFL’s worst kicking game over that period, while playing the NFL’s toughest schedule.

Also, if Brady isn’t available, Winston was coming back.

I was a big Winston fan – he got a raw deal – but man, getting Brady was a no-brainer and I said so at the time. But that doesn’t mean Winston stunk or a bust, because he wasn’t. He was a throw back gunslinger that you don’t see that much anymore, and personally I love that. I don’t care if my QB throws an INT on 3rd and 12, 50 yards down the field – yet people acted like those killed the team. Also, when you’re playing year in – year out with the worst defense in football, you have to take chances and score points. I’d much rather see a 35-31 loss than a 24-10 loss in any case.

But, in New Orleans, in his 2nd season after Brees retired, Winston looked great and got off to a very good start – and then got injured on that play with Devin White, and that’s been it for him. When he came back, he just didn’t look the same when I saw him, he was at first more jumpy in the pocket, like he was afraid to get hit, then he seemed to hesitate. Then the next year he kept getting hurt. This last year, multiple times he came into games when the Saints would be down like 27-0 vs the Vikings half-way through the 3rd, and the game literally came down to the last play. So there’s still some of that spark there, but he doesn’t look like the same guy anymore, the injuries and time seem to have taken their toll on him.

With all that said, I’d still take Winston + $35m over Baker.

“in no way shape or form did Trask outplay Baker in the preseason”

Preseason? No. But Training camp? Yes.

In the preseason, as soon as Trask started looking better than Mayfield, Bowels gave the order to send in the tryout backups. The proof is on the tapes…Trask had to play more with backups, and less with starters.

But…what is done is done. The only way Trask will get a fair shake in Tampa is if Mayfield has a Bledsoe-like injury not long after the season starts, and Bowels has no choice but to play Trask.

Even if Trask had done extremely well with the backups…Bowels would have said “It was a hard decision, but in the end, we decided to go with the experienced hand.” Because it was not a real competition.

Anyone saying Trask is actually better than Mayfield? They would really not know. But it’s the same is reverse…no one knows if Mayfield is better than Trask either. I will grant that Mayfield did enough to start this year…but I do not expect him to improve on his 16th position among starting QBs.

    (16th is factual, not 10th)

  102. Rod Munch Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai – The numbers prove that Winston, at least pre injury, was the superior QB.

But, even with that said, and not even being a Baker fan, in the NFL in 2024, Baker is worth more than $15-20m.

If the Bucs can get him at that $27m number, then I’d feel much better about him coming back – since that extra $13m can be one star guard, or two solid starters. So it’s a big difference in my mind.

But the much bigger deal to me is the multiple year guaranteed money. If Baker falls off a cliff (which, I expect) I don’t want next season to be about how they have to bring him back because they can’t afford to cut him. That’s by far my biggest fear with Baker. The history of guys in his position shows they rarely work out – but it’s possible, which is why you can go one more year and find out.

  103. Oneilbuc Says:

You don’t want another Daniel Jones situation with Baker Mayfield. Jones made the playoffs as well and I think they won a game I’m not sure and now the Giants are regretting paying him that money. And Baker ain’t that far from him or maybe they same guy who knows because Jones don’t have Mike Evans to bail him out and help him look like a good quarterback like Baker Mayfield has .

  104. Oneilbuc Says:

I still believe the bucs must draft a quarterback this year they have already ruined Kyle Trask even though he was better than Baker in training camp they’re not going to give him a chance regardless. So if Penix is there at 26 they have to draft him . Baker Mayfield is not a franchise quarterback at all at this point of his career. I say pay Baker 25 million with the option to get out of the contract in a year or 2. I don’t care what no one say even his fan boys know that it’s a strong possibility he will suck this year. It’s a reason why he’s on his 4th team in 6 years. And look I gave Baker a pass his last year in Cleveland. But what I saw with the Rams and the Panthers I was done with Baker being a franchise quarterback. In Carolina he had DJ Monroe and Mac at runningback and he sucked. He came here and he was inconsistent remember we were talking about the draft mid season and then we played a bunch of bottom feeders and we went on a run and he played good against the Jaguars and Green Bay and then he was bad against the Falcons even though we won and he was bad against the Saints and the Panthers. That’s what you call a inconsistent quarterback and you can’t win a superbowl with a quarterback like that. If wasn’t for Winfield Jr and the defense and our kicker kicking 3 field goals we lose and don’t make the playoffs in a trash division. Facts!!

    ———–

If you go with Wilson on the cheap, then you certainly draft someone in the 1st if there is anyone worth drafting there. With Baker, if they gave him a multi-year deal, that means Licht has gone all in on Baker, so I can’t see them then drafting anyone.

As for Trask… I wasn’t a fan of his coming out of college, he didn’t throw with NFL velocity and didn’t look like an NFL QB. While he can throw the ball 70 yards, if you’re just tossing rainbows with no zip, it doesn’t really matter. BUT give Trask, and the Bucs coaches, a ton of credit for changing his delivery so he can deliver an NFL ball. He doesn’t throw with the kind of zip that you see from Baker or Brady or Winston, but it’s certainly good enough now, and really, that was by far the biggest issue I saw with him.

Based on his size, 2nd round pedigree, and having a good enough arm – I think he’ll end up being in the NFL for a while. He may not be someone that is signed as a starter, but he’ll probably stick around for a bit – and if he does ever get some starts, will probably look just good enough to continue to stick around.
