Sean Tucker Turning The Corner?
March 25th, 2024Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht was firm and direct last month at the Indiana Convention Center when he fielded a question from the assembled #NFLMedia at his feet about reserve running back Sean Tucker.
The Syracuse product was diagnosed with a heart ailment in offseason physicals and fell out of the draft. The Bucs signed him as an undrafted free agent. Tucker didn’t play much because he demonstrated, at least at that point in his short career, he was not up to the task of battling NFL defenses.
Tucker’s 1.5 yards-per-carry average made Rachaad White’s sad yards-per-carry total look like Tony Dorsett’s by comparison. Tucker basically was falling forward. He last took a handoff in the Week 3 loss to the Eagles, clearly then in the penthouse of someone’s doghouse, either offensive coordinator Dave Canales or Todd Bowles.
So last month when Licht was asked about Tucker, Licht replied, “He needs to take a big step.”
For a guy who likes to hype weekday warriors on the practice squad, this was just about as harsh of a critique as you will ever hear from Licht.
Message sent. But was message heard?
Outside of cryptic tweets, players love to post workout videos on social media. It seems Tucker has joined this fad.
For the first time in five months, Tucker’s Twitter account came alive this weekend with an interesting post:
“Mistakes made. Lessons learned. Only up from here.”
Hhhmmm? Then yesterday Tucker posted a workout video. That will show Atlanta!
Look, Joe is a burning bush guy. Workout videos are fun (Joe guesses) but what counts is production during the season, not in underwear football, not in worthless preseason games and certainly not in footwork drills out on a high school football field in March.
Licht sent his message loud and clear last month. Maybe Tucker received it?

Bucs need to add an RB to go with White.

If the Bucs don’t draft a RB in April, then it means Licht thinks Tucker is turning the corner. JL is the only guy in the organization whose opinion about Tucker which matters until training camp.

Great, got to get better. Is Hainsey strengthening his lower body? Is a more pressing question. GO BUCS!

Bucs need to draft a power RB in the 3rd or 4th – Davis, Allen or Estime (my preference).
March 25th, 2024 at 3:22 am
Center and RB needs to be top priority in the draft for the Offensive side of the ball. DE and LB needs to be addressed on defense.

Looks like Georgia RB, Trevor Etienne just lowered his draft ranking with a DUI last night. He was projected #3 for RB and could have been drafted as high as the second round. Maybe the Bucs can pick him up in the 4th round.

Rooting for Sean Tucker.
He’s got VERY high end measurables for a RB regarding speed, strength and explosiveness.
Sub 4.4 – 40 – 29 reps bench press – 38″ vertical jump
Dude was super productive at Syracuse
None of that means anything until he learns how to pass protect and pick up blitzes (which is most likely what kept him off the field last year)- but its a hell of a starting point for a UDFA that cost the Bucs nothing to acquire.
Coach this young man up Skip Peete – he might just turn into a hell of a weapon for the Buccaneers one of these days….

AlabamaBucsFan … Agree on all 4 of those positions being much-needed draft picks, but the order I’d place them in is a little different:
Rnds 1 & 2: Center & Edge, with BPA taking priority.
Rnd 3: ILB & RB, with BPA taking priority.
Would love to see us grab a beastly TE in Rnd 4, although if there was a quality Guard who’d gone undrafted to that point wouldn’t mind going that route either.

Did he transfer from Florida just to declare for the draft???

Seems like a suspension is coming.

Rooting for Tucker.

Nice nod to Dorsett Joe’s. He’s my all time favorite player. That dude was silky smooth.

2024 Tucker is 2023 Zyon
I love the young guns who put in the work at OneBuc over the offseason. They thrive. Like Zyon, Tucker is a freakish athlete. If he gets after it and becomes a pro, the RB room got a whole lot better.
March 25th, 2024 at 9:13 am
tucker’s story makes him easy to root for…….but, we need help at RB….if he can’t provide it…let’s move on.
March 25th, 2024 at 9:38 am
That’s a perfect description of Dorsett. Hated the guy though (Cowboys — ugh).
March 25th, 2024 at 9:39 am
Exactly. Oh, would be cool as heck if he made it.
March 25th, 2024 at 9:41 am
If the Bucs can shore up the Center and left Guard positions, perhaps the current players in the running room would look good. Of course it never hurts to add competition to the mix.
March 25th, 2024 at 12:42 pm
Pulling for Tucker, but definitely agree more depth & competition needs to be added to the RB room.
March 25th, 2024 at 1:36 pm
Tucker needs to get his act together.
And for the record both JTS and Logan Hall should be sent packing. Today!

Com on man give this young kid Sean Tucker a break. He was all American n selected by espn for heisman candidate n projected to be a high draft pick after rushing for back to back thousand yards. Add the fact that he later discovered he had a medical condition that impeded him from being drafted high at the young age of 21, that’s a lot on that young man mentally, psychologically, emotionally, n probably physically. Let’s see how he rebound this year. He has all the physical attributes to compete in the nfl. If anyone should be gone after years to prove themselves it’s JTS n Logan Hall. I’m all in with Sean Tucker.

I watched the guys college highlights – and never understood what in the world people were talking about with him being a steal, or a possible 3rd round pick. He’s a very very very basic runner, nothing special that I saw. Yes, it’s only highlights, but you expect to see some plays where you go, wow, that’s impressive. With him, I just saw a guy running north/south through a hole, maybe he breaks a tackle, but nothing any other starting college RB couldn’t do. He also is supposed to have amazing speed, but again, on tape he looked fine – but nothing special.
What is funny is all the dopes saying he should be the starting RB after week one when all he did was run straight ahead and get tackled with no wiggle or anything.
Anywho, with all that said, I always want to see Bucs breakout and play well since they’re on the roster – so hopefully he shows up to camp as a new man. Also I don’t know what he means about mistakes were made – is that something behind the scenes, like did he hit on Bowles daughter or something?

Dear Munch,
Communication like the type from Tucker here seems usually easy to interpret categorically. Whether preparation each week or more long term issues like physical conditioning, it seems obvious the meaning. But Bowles’ (step)daughter was engaged to Tyraun Mathieu last time I saw any mention of the head coaches family…
Gonna look up his college highlights.
