Jason Licht The NFL Reporter

March 15th, 2024

“Kaufman, I’ve been paying attention. You haven’t broken wind this week. I can do your job with a Bromosa in one hand and an iPhone in the other. Do better!”

So the Bucs have a new beat reporter.

Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht this afternoon decided he was going to join the fun all the other NFL reporters across America are having.

That is, report breaking news on players you pray never step on an NFL field for your team — and as always, correctly cite the source.

So today, Licht himself broke the news that he re-signed backup (second-string?) quarterback John Wolford. And the alleged source? It was Fifth Third Bank.

Guess that means Wolford’s signing bonus cleared Team Glazer’s checking account already.

Joe wishes all NFL shot-callers were this transparent by racing to Twitter to alert the masses of their news.

Now, Joe would really, really love if before the night is over, Licht reports he traded for Haason Reddick,

Jason is the man. Love his humor!

  5. Defense Rules Says:

I love what JL has done already this off-season, and free agency has barely begun.

    Re-signed from last year’s team …

    1 – Baker Mayfield (QB)
    2 – Mike Evans (WR)
    3 – Antoine Winfield (S)
    4 – Lavonte David (ILB)
    5 – Chase McLaughlin (K)
    6 – Greg Gaines (DT)
    7 – Devin Thompkins (WR)
    8 – Brandon Walton (T)
    9 – Justin Skule (T)
    10 – Chase Edmonds (RB)
    11 – John Wolford (QB)

    Added as free agents …

    12 – Jordan Whitehead (S)
    13 – Ben Bredeson (G/C)
    14 – Sua Opeta (G)
    15 – Bryce Hall (CB)

Traded CB Carlton Davis (gained a 2024 3rd Rnd pick in the process) and released OLB Shaq Barrett in a cost-cutting move.

Jason’s been REALLY busy these past couple of weeks. Got a hunch we’re building something that’ll endure for awhile.

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’m not sold on Ben Bredeson. Giants released him, right? They replaced him with one of our guys, so…is either any good?

  7. Proudbucsfan Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai, Stinnie is a good lineman he’s a natural RG he should be a starter in this league we had him out of position last season. BB is just a backup,I’m confident that we will get some one better to start at LG

  8. Proudbucsfan Says:

Am I reading his stats right? Is that 1 TD and 5 INTs

  9. NCBuc Says:

Yes you are reading that correctly. 1 TD – 5 INT for his NFL career……

  10. NCBuc Says:

But he went 2-2 as a Rams starter!

  11. Hodad Says:

Somewhere in this draft the Bucs need to take a QB.

  12. heyjude Says:

@Defense Rules – Great breakdown of Licht’s successes so far! It does sound like he has a plan.

  13. Bucs Guy Says:

@Defense Rules don’t forget Licht also cut Gage in a cost saving move.
@Hodad Bucs don’t need to waste a puck on a QB. If they really believe they need.one, go the UDFA route. Not much difference between day 3 and UDFAs in the QB position.
    1- Edge
    2 – #1 TE
    3 – IOL
    3 – Power RB
    4 – CB or LB
    6 – LB or CB
    7 – WR

  14. adam from ny Says:

i think we pass on a qb this year…unless bo nix is somehow sitting there at #26

  15. D-Rok Says:

It’s a good day when you out-scoop Adam Schefter on anything NFL related.

LOL Mr. Licht – you are hilarious!! 🙂

  16. cmurda Says:

Perfect breakdown D Rules. Licht and company are building a young, talented team. Much of the focus has been on desperately needed speed. Yeah, J Licht has been amazing. I hope he can find a way to lock up Winfield Jr and Wirfs. That would be as solid an offseason before the draft anyone could ask for.

  17. GhostofBrady Says:

Man Mr. Licht know his stuff. You all need to rewind the tape and read all these threads with people saying no way we can keep all these players, we will destroy our caps, we can’t keep Baker, Evans, LD and Winfield. It has been fun reading all the past two week threads. I am comforted by
    1. GMs have tools to massage the cap space including voided years, signing bonuses and cutting over-valued players with mild dead cap to maintain the key pieces awhile adding new pieces.
    2. Licht has got a handle on using those tools after the Brady, Gronk, Brown, Fournette experience. And he isn’t afraid to put our success on a credit card that the bank (NFL) keeps giving us more credit each year.
    3. Key players on this team want to win a little more than maximizing their market take. It is gratifying having a core team that is built on TEAM not a bunch of high paid mercenaries.

When Cousins starts fumbling away game or gets hurt, ATL will implode because mercenaries are treated like mercenaries. This team will have each other’s backs through the tough times. Having an 0-6 run turned into a 6-1 run at the end of the year is about character. I like the character on this team.
