Jason Licht Talks Kyle Trask

March 2nd, 2024

Bucs QB Kyle Trask.

This should excite and infuriate those among the rabid fans of Buccaneers quarterback Kyle Trask.

Tampa Bay’s 2021 second-round pick out of the University of Florida, Trask has yet to start an NFL game and he’s played very few meaningful snaps. He’s about to enter his contract year and many teams are hunting for a quality quarterback.

Trask has benefited learning from Pro Bowl veteran QBs, Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield. And he spent years around multiple quarterback gurus, including Bucco Bruce Arians and Tom Moore.

So is there are market for Trask?

Joe asked Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht about that this week on the Ira Kaufman Podcast.

“Have teams called you about Kyle Trask? Have you gotten calls?” Joe asked Licht.

“Not at this point. No,” Licht replied. “But it wouldn’t be the time, I don’t think.”

Prior to those Trask comments, Licht weighed in on the summer battle between Trask and Baker Mayfield for the Buccaneers’ starting quarterback gig.

“And it really was a close battle,” Licht said. “There were times during camp last year that I thought Kyle was ahead of him. That was kind of exciting for me to see what we have in Kyle.”

Joe is only an amateur GM, but it seems odd that no teams have called the Bucs about Trask. If the guy was ahead of Mayfield in training camp and looked pretty strong in preseason, and he nailed his one regular season end zone throw (against the Colts in November), then Joe would think some team would be inquiring. Especially a team that graded Trask well coming out of college.

Perhaps, as Licht said, the time is not yet right for a club to call Licht about trading a draft pick (s) for Trask.

  2. BillyBucco Says:

They reached on Trask. Why would anyone give up more than a 6th or 7th for him?
Any thoughts of playing him next year would be without Evans and he would probably not look good. Why would a team come calling when they haven’t shown what he can do with ME. Most teams don’t have a ME type anyway.

  3. Beeej Says:

He’s as likely to be Tom Brady as he is to be Zach Wilson, just no way to know

  4. BPBucsfan Says:

I’ll just say this, I want to seethe Bucs do well, have the best QB situation possible. That said Trask had 2 chances to beat out Blaine Gabbert for backup to Brady ,couldn’t do it, had a chance (although not sure how much of a “chance”) it was upfront to win starting QB last year, couldn’t do it. Also so far, no teams of the QB needy teams inquiring, tells you all you need to know. I wish no I’ll towards him at all, everything so far speaks for itself.

  5. Marine Buc Says:

Trask hasn’t worked out in Tampa but I still think it was OK to take a chance on him with the last pick of the 2nd round a few years back.

I wouldn’t mind the Bucs taking another QB in the later rounds – I like Michael Pratt out of Tulane. If he is still available when the Bucs pick at #126 I hope they take another chance on a developmental QB.

  6. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey Beeej, Haven’t you read all the other amateur JBF GMs voluminous reports here? They “somehow” know Kyle Trask will never be a good NFL QB. Get with the program Beeej, sheesh…

  7. DS Says:

Can’t wait til he off the roster so a new qb mob can form im tired of the Trask Truthers

  8. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Kyle Trask made a huge leap forward during last year’s offseason. I think the jury is out if he is a starting QB in this league. At this point, no telling if he could be a future pro bowler or a huge bust. Point being, he did nothing but helped himself during last year’s offseason.

  9. Tony marks Says:

I don’t think Trask Cultists are bright enough to figure it out but that answer was way too open to the idea of Trask never having any meaningful part to play with the the Bucs.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The closest thing to a wasted pick you can get…..we will probably never know

  11. White Tiger Says:

Perhaps the positive spin from Licht is meant to generate interest from teams interested in trading for him?

    Just a thought.

  12. Doug Prescott Says:

    Start trask!

  13. Pickgrin Says:

Assuming the Bucs sign Mayfield – Trask is at worst a cheap back up with Tampa Bay for 1 more year.

Sooner or later Kyle will get a chance to play significant snaps in the NFL. Look how many starting QBs got hurt and missed games and/or the rest of the season in 2023.

Baker is not very ‘risk’ averse which is a double edged sword. On one hand everyone loves and respects how Baker lowers his shoulder to try and get 1st downs. On the other hand – it increases the chances Mayfield will get hurt and miss games.

Kyle Trask is in as good a spot right now as any back up in the league. He just has to wait patiently for his opportunity – and be READY to shine whenever it comes…

  14. VATom Says:

If Canales and the Panthers dont call for him as a backup then I question his future. Canales would know best if Trask has a chance to legit compete with a qb that a team has questions about.

  15. Why Not Says:

Trask is the victim of circumstances. When he was drafted, there was no way he was going to start, let alone be the backup. Last year, Bowles was not rolling the dice with an inexperienced quarterback and went with Mayfield. That bet paid off, but it is not an indictment on Trask. By all reports, Trask improved significantly under Canales. I would love for the Bucs to cut him, so he can sign with a quarterback needy team…like Carolina (I’m not sold on Bryce Young).

  16. HC Grover Says:

Who gets Trask will win a SB with him at QB. It is the Buc Way.

  17. Dave Pear Says:

Perhaps it is bad business to say Trashk sucked and was behind Mayfield the whole time. Not going to get many offers with that kind of publicity.

Even with “he’s almost as good” stuff, no phone calls.

But his fans know better than all the professionals in the NFL so there’s that.

  18. Joe Says:

Trask is the victim of circumstances. When he was drafted, there was no way he was going to start, let alone be the backup. Last year, Bowles was not rolling the dice with an inexperienced quarterback and went with Mayfield.

How dare you use logic and reason when discussing Kyle Trask! 🙂

  19. Joe Says:

If Canales and the Panthers dont call for him as a backup then I question his future.

Gonna guess Kyle Trask doesn’t want to go to Carolina. David Tepper has Powerball kind of loot invested in Bryce Young. He (and by extension, Dave Canales) are going to give Young every possible chance to turn things around for the next two or three years. To sum it up, outside of Young getting hurt, Trask has zero chance to start there.

If Canales doesn’t turn things around in three years he will be gone and the next coach will unlikely have any connection to Trask.

Trask may have a better chance to start here, depending what Baker Mayfield does.

  20. JD Still Says:

Kyle Trask would probably consider it a blessing to be let go, Tampa bay has never been able to develop its own quarterbacks , in fact , multiple quarterbacks , that Tampa declared busts , have gone on to other teams and become SuperBowl Winners and/ or hall of famers, ( more times than any other team I can recall, something is definitely wrong there , it can’t be an accident), while good or great quarterbacks that have been successful elsewhere , were brought in and quickly became mediocre within a year or two, including our first round draft choices! What is it that a San Francisco , New England, or Kansas City does that Tampa doesn’t do?

  21. Larrd Says:

Kind of like Jordan Love until last season.

  22. Bucs Guy Says:

Trask’s only opportunity in 2024 is if Baker gets hurt or isn’t re-signed.

  23. Joe in Michigan Says:

    HC Grover Says:

    ^^^^^^^
Yes, that’s exactly what happened with Jameis. 🙄

  24. Slacker Says:

The Trask pick at the time was an absolute head scratcher and a total waste. Team was built to make a run and there was plenty of holes/ depth that was needed. As far as last year Bowles was coaching for his life and in no way was going to risk it with Trask.

  25. D Cone Says:

If the Bucaneers treat Mayfield as a ‘Franchise Guy’ Trask will get at least two Preseason starts with better than Third String Talent. He will have an opportunity to get himself looked at. If he can move the ball with less that starting talent better still.

Based on history Mayfield will miss one game or more every other year due to an injury of some kind. Trask will be ready if called on.

Just because teams are no inquiring doesn’t mean they are not paying attention.

  26. Allbuccedup Says:

Besides Canales Brian Johnson is the only other coach that knows him
If for some reason Mayfield leaves and the Commanders draft a QB. Sam Howell will be expendable the Bucs could trade Trask and a late round for him. That’s a lot of ifs but who knows stranger things have happened.

  27. Tony marks Says:

    Why Not Says:
. I would love for the Bucs to cut him, so he can sign with a quarterback needy team…like Carolina (I’m not sold on Bryce Young).

Fair enough post. I’d root for the young man too. Just not here because the cultists are insufferable. I’v seen nothing but class from Trask. I guess there was none left over for his fan base.

  28. adam from ny Says:

trask goes to a weekly session of counseling with one ryan griffin

  29. IvanT Says:

“And it really was a close battle. There were times during camp last year that I thought Kyle was ahead of him.” – Jason Licht

This is a stunning admission. Since Bowles gave the job to Mayfield, there is no way Licht was going to say here Trask won the battle. But that is what Licht means. Trask won the battle and Bowles gifted Mayfield. Which lines up perfectly with Joe’s assessment after training camp ended and before the first preseason game that Trask “outplayed” Mayfield in training camp. Which lines up perfectly with Trask’s obvious dejection when asked about Mayfield getting the job. Trask knew who won.

  30. IvanT Says:

JOE: “he [Trask] nailed his one regular season end zone throw (against the Colts in November)”

Yes, he did. And Godwin caught it with 2 yards to spare to the sideline and got one foot in but not the other. Godwin screwed up. And yet the Trask haters here keep peddling the lie that Trask missed Godwin.

  31. JimBobBuc Says:

I don’t think anybody here but Joe saw the offseason practice battle but Joe. We don’t know how Trask will play in a meaningful NFL game. I think it was telling that Bowles and/or Canales didn’t play Trask when Baker was hurt.

This coming offseason I wonder how Coen will rate Wolford over Trask since Coen has experience with Wolford. Maybe the Bucs will showcase Trask in the meaninglessness preseason games to trade him, and keep Wolford?????????? Maybe the best outcome for both Trask and the Bucs.

  32. Red86 Says:

If Kyle Trask sucks, then what does that say about Baker being in a close battle with him in the off-season? Logic escapes the Baker’s doughnuts cult.

The main problem about the scenario is the “open competition” lie. Paying customers hate being lied to and asked to spent money on a franchise. Instead of saying it’s an open competition, say that all qbs’ performance in camp and preseason games are being evaluated for the starting position, while clearly advertising one Qb on the stadium. You know how weird that would be if Baker is advertised before the end of preseason, but lost the competition? All they had to do is end the competition early and say Baker is the starter. Then, they compliment the other qbs.

  33. Burl Morgan Says:

I’m going to call the BUCS brass out on this one. You have a guy that’s 6’5″ with a strong arm that can make all the throws. He’s a smart guy that was in the QB room with Tom Brady the GOAT for 2 years. We will never know the value of the time spent with Brady unless you give this guy a chance on the field. You hand this kid the reigns & turn him loose. The upside is worth the risk here 🙂🏈

  34. Boss Says:

Let bake and mike walk……spend the cash on OL and edge, draft WR #1 and trade CD for someone (bruiser RB)……. and start Trask.

    SUPEBOWL!!

  35. Hodad Says:

No one would trade for him this draft is full of Tasks after the 3rd round. There are also enough QBs in the first 2 rounds where no team but the Bucs would throw big money at Baker.

  36. Texasbucsfan.com Says:

Does anyone know what Trask can really do in the NFL??

  37. Texasbucsfan.com Says:

Goodbye Joe. Will never write in this column again. Censorship is a corrupt value.

  38. Trask To The Future Says:

Trask set records at UF and torched top SEC corners, many that now play in the NFL. To not let him get some playing time with the starters is DUMB and will go down as one of the biggest mistakes in franchise history to waste a 2nd round pick and not even see what he can do.

  39. Bucs Fan since 1996 Says:

Many QB’s were thought to be a bust or career backup in the NFL but when put into the right situation with the right coach it was found they were a legit starter.

Baker and Geno Smith would probably be playing in the XFL by now if it was up to some of you GM’s in the chat.

Nobody knows for sure how Trask will do it he had an actual opportunity. Many professional scouts in the NFL get it wrong when evaluating QBs. That’s why Brady was a 6th Round pick and Purdy the last pick of the 7th, and Jameis the 1’st overall pick in the draft

It’s true that Bowles has seen him in practice but even he does not know. Some QBs play like crap their first year as a starter but eventually become great. Peyton Manning’s completion percentage was 56.7% his first season and he threw 28 picks. Some of you GMs would have cut him after that.

  40. Capt.Tim Says:

When Mayfield got hurt by the POS Tyrann “garbage” Mathieu,
Mayfield could barely raise his Arm.
Trask Started to warmup, and Bowles asked him what he was doing?

A broken Ribbed, One armed Mayfield was better than A healthy Trask.
And Trask didnt get a minute in the next game.even when it was clearly over.

That tells you what Bowles and Licht think of Trask.

Not his fault. It was yet another in a long line of failed 2nd round picks by Licht.
Trask doesnt have an NFL arm. Honestly, he barely had a College Arm.

Woolford will beat Trask out for backup. Trask will finish out his Rookie contract, get cut- and become the 27th QB drafted by the Bucs, who wont get a 2nd contract.
But if you are a Trask lover- He’ll becselling insurance in an office near you.

If Trask is a bust, why did Licht talk so favorably, whe asked about him?
Because GMs NEVER TALK BAD ABOUTVA PLAYER THEY DRAFTED.

In case some of you havent realized it yet. Everything GMs, Coaches, and players say to the press is Bullspit. They have PR handlers, that tell them exactly what to say.

You want the truth? Actions speak louder than words. What they do. Not what they say

  41. Beeej Says:

Joe doesn’t censor stuff, if it happens instantly it’s the K-Mart blue light special mod software, which can be set off by the stupidest things. There’s a LB for the Eagles who may or may not want out, but if I type his name my post gets curb-stomped

  42. Pole Vaulter Says:

Beeej Says: “He’s as likely to be Tom Brady as he is to be Zach Wilson, just no way to know.”

True that. The kid has never played with the starting offense. Great developmental skills by the Bucs.

  43. Pole Vaulter Says:

    @Joe

I disagree. Kyle Trask will start at the Panthers if Canales believes, and convinces Tepper that it protects his investment, to sit Young for a couple years and learn. Having Young continue to stink it up like he did last season is no way to protect the loot invested in Young; the loot will dissipate in value.

  44. geno711 Says:

    This comment made me laugh:

You have more faith than anyone on the Bucs does…No, you have more faith in Tr@sk than the entire NFL does. I’m sure they’re all wrong, even though they make a living doing it.

  47. Bojim Says:

Leave him at 2. If Baker gets hurt he’s got his chance. If Baker signs.

  48. Irishmist Says:

Trask is the NFL equivalent of Schrodinger’s cat. Until you let him out of the box, there’s no way of telling if he’s alive or dead.

  49. Capt.Tim Says:

    Where did my post go?

  50. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Scenario

Baker signs gets overpaid, butting the Bucs in the hole for several years.

    2024 season starts.

    Baker gets career ending injury.

Trask made starter remainder of year.

Trask ends up actually being really good, better than Baker. Wins a bunch of games.I

Bucs want to give the next big success story a contract to keep him around, but can’t afford him now, thanks to Baker contract.

Trask had hall of fame career…elsewhere.

    It could happen…

  51. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Trask is to Mayfield what Brady was to Bledsoe

  52. BFFL Says:

No team would be willing to make Trask a starter if the team that drafted him isn’t

  53. Usfbucs Says:

Of course nobody is calling for Trask. He has no game tape to speak of so any assessment is being made on his college tape still. There are about 16 or so FA QBs with more experience that can be mostly signed cheap (few exceptions like BM and Kirk Cousins) without trading an asset. This draft class also has enough QBs to go around that played really well in college (similar to Trask) who are now going to be younger than Trask and under contract longer.

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

My pists are not going through either.

  55. Just Saying Says:

Trask the only qb under contract. Lots of more “proven “ options available. The good or bad thing that every team in the league, including the Bucs, have to contend with on Trask is that no one knows what he is as a pro qb. No one, not even the Bucs which is a travesty. Panthers have the only other coach with any knowledge of him in practices, and that franchise can’t show any cracks in their belief in Young. So today is the same as it’s ever been. No one knows what Trask is as an NFL QB. No one

  56. Bucs Fan since 1996 Says:

I also didn’t have a post go through from a couple hours ago.

  57. Usfbucs Says:

Trask got drafted by a team that didn’t need him so he never had a real shot at getting to the field in those first few years. Then the Bucs signed BM which paid off for them but many of us called that as soon as BM was signed he was the starter.

No manager regardless of the profession is going to choose the inexperienced person over the experienced person when they can get the experienced person under current market value.

Now the question is can the Bucs re-sign BM or will they lose him in FA? Signs point to yes but it hasn’t happened yet.

  58. 1#bucsfan Says:

For all the trask haters for what ever reason that is but look at the stats Winston, Brady and now baker all put up with the weapons the Bucs have. Trask would most likely do the same. Insert most QB with the weapons the Bucs have and they will put up good numbers. We have weapons.

  59. ScottyMack Says:

Joe said, “If Canales doesn’t turn things around in three years he will be gone and the next coach will unlikely have any connection to Trask.”

Not sure Canales has close to that many years to turn things around in Carolina. In the 6 years he has owned the Panthers, David Tepper has fired 6 head coaches, only one of which made it to his third year before being fired.

  60. Just Saying Says:

Trask the only qb under contract. Lots of more “proven “ options available. The good or bad thing that every team in the league, including the Bucs, have to contend with on Trask is that no one knows what he is as a pro qb. No one, not even the Bucs which is a travesty. 61. 1976 Says:

Licht sounds to me like a man who knows Kyle beat out Baker but can’t say it for obvious reasons.

  62. Beeej Says:

There’s more to being an NFL QB than throwing a ball thru a tire at 40 yards. Fair or unfair, Trask doesn’t have any experience in the second part, hence Baker was starting QB. We never heard of Brady until Bledsoe got hurt, never heard of Mahomes until Alex got hurt, never heard of Purdy until Lance got hurt

  63. DoooshLaRue Says:

From a financial perspective, letting Baker and ME walk and rolling with Trask and maybe picking a 1st round WR is intriguing from a rebuild perspective.
Save 60-70 mil and see what happens?
    Draft trenches too.

  64. Beeej Says:

Throwing away $250 million or so in salaries is what (can) happen

  65. ^^mtn^^ Says:

Wasn’t a huge fan of the Trask pick at the time.

Not because of his potential but thought it was more important for the Bucs to add depth.

Turns out they could’ve used depth, but I see the reasoning behind the pick.

That said, I don’t see how you can count Trask out yet. Believe he has shown enough promise.

But the wise choice of course was to go with Baker, no brainer really.

As long as it was close, Bake was going to start IMHO.

As to whether or not Jason is blowing smoke, it’s still early when you have a deep QB class. Don’t think it’s as deep as some say, but the 2nd tier guys have a decent shot, sans Penix due to the injuries.

Would consider JJ if he’s still there day 2 & Pratt 3rd day.

The kid has quickness and impeccable route running already.

Then today he runs a 4.39 forty 😳😳😳….
And for a “Caucasian” dude, that’s blazing, haha!!!!

All I can think about is Cooper Kupp but with even more wheels….

I think I want this kid for the Bucs!!

We already have his WR inch from Georgia as well…

  80. go dawgs Says:

burl morgan^^ you posted that Trask makes “all the throws” please explain to us exactly what are all the throws you’ve seen him make? I trust the coaching evaluation over the knuckle dragging lizard fanboys.

  81. Bobby M. Says:

Don’t see much of a market for him…..his style of QB as a pure pocket passer isn’t as sought after in today’s NFL, his film is limited, he hasn’t won a single QB battle in 3 yrs….likely worth more to us as a backup than a late rd pick.

  82. Oneilbuc Says:

Jason Licht already admitted that Kyle Trask out played Baker in training camp but you people ain’t going to admit it. But anyway for that to even be a debate tells me everything I need to know about Baker Mayfield. I haven’t heard anyone that was there at those camps say Baker Mayfield was just better than Kyle Trask. What I’ve heard was Kyle Trask pushed Baker Mayfield or Todd Bowles was going to put his job on the line with a quarterback that had no experience that’s what everyone said. Even Joe who didn’t like Kyle Trask couldn’t admit it that Baker Mayfield was just better. Ira reported that he was going to be the starter regardless. And once the most loseing franchise in all of sports over pay Baker Mayfield because we all know that’s what they’re going to do Baker Mayfield will go right back to being the inconsistent quarterback he’s always been lol 🤣🤣!! We are the only franchise that believes Baker is a franchise quarterback it’s been 3 other teams that showed us he’s not . And remember this was a contract year and he was average at best. What you think he’s going to do once the bucs over pay him ?

  83. Oneilbuc Says:

Wasn’t going to put his job on the line

  84. Oneilbuc Says:

Drafting a rookie quarterback this year is the same as Baker Mayfield being the starter and that’s we don’t know if he’s going to be a good quarterback this year. Lol 😂😂 !!

  85. 1976 Says:

Just Saying Says: “No one knows what Trask is as a pro QB. No one, not even the Bucs, which is a travesty.”

Well said. It is a monumental TRAVESTY that the Bucs – by their own incompetence cheered on by Joe, Ira, and much of the “sports media” – have no idea what Trask can or cannot do with starters in a game situation. How could the Bucs not have given Trask any time with the starters in THREE FULL SEASONS? Not even in any of THREE PRESEASONS? What is wrong with this organization?

  86. 1976 Says:

Oneilbuc Says: “Even Joe who didn’t like Kyle Trask couldn’t admit it that Baker Mayfield was just better.”

Not only that, Joe admitted that Trask actually outplayed Mayfield in training camp. It is in an article in the JBF archives written after training camp ended and right before the first preseason game. Check it out, easy to find.

  87. 1976 Says:

Bobby M. Says: “Trask hasn’t won a single QB battle in 3 yrs”

    Wrong on all 3 years.

There was no “QB battle” during Trask’s first 2 years. You may not know this, but Brady was here competing for Super Bowls and wanted and had veteran Gabbert as his backup. And, Bucs QB coach Clyde Christensen himself said Trask would not be competing for #2 in training camp and so Gabbert would be the #2 because there simply were not enough reps with the starters to be split up among 3 quarterbacks. Look it up and learn something.

There was a supposed QB competition Trask’s 3rd year that he actually won according to Joe who was at training camp and Licht’s comments above. Mayfield was gifted the job. It was part of his signing. That’s why during the off-season when Trask was busting his but training for the supposed QB competition, Mayfield was being celebrated by Joe on these pages for taking linemen to steak dinners and going to Rays games and eating hot dogs and drinking beer – he knew he had the starting gig.

Jason Licht already admitted that Kyle Trask out played Baker in training camp but you people ain’t going to admit it.

OF course logical people will not admit it because they know Licht said no such thing. You just modified what he said to push your love affair. What he really said was “for awhile” indicating the exact opposite – that trask did NOT beat baker across the entire competition.

and this coming from the GMS office that drafted Trask. Trask did well until Baker settled in. As even the joes stated by the time the preseason games against other teams came around it was obvious who the better QB was and is.

There’s a whole slew of things a QB has to do well that only comes out when playing other teams than your own that you are accustomed to. Thats when Trask came up and comes up short and that’s why Bowles played a three quarter dead Baker over Trask in the Panther’s game.

What’s your connection to FSU? Be honest, now.

  90. Beeej Says:

He said there were DAYS where he outPASSED him. As I said bet, throwing a ball thru a tire at 40 yards isn’t the same as recognizing shifting NFL defenses (which is why so many rookies throw the long ball, easy to identify a 1 on 1)

“Trask has a hall of fame career elsewhere. It could happen”
    Roflmfao.
Any tiny bit of hope- Suddenly Trask is is in the hall of fame!

this is the consistent silly mode of operation for Traskites. When you bring up the fact that he has done little in three years to impress his coaches ( or brady or the front office ) its “we can’t trust their evaluation because there’s not enough data until he gets starts”

They then do a 180 and want you to envision him as the next Steve Young and HOFer and then jump to – the Bucs would do just as well with Trask and they should let Baker walk and trust the same no data (allegedly) Trask with the organization.

tails you lose. Heads I win. Its all silliness.

  92. 1976 Says:

Tony Marks Says: “You just modified what he said to push your love affair. What he really said was ‘for awhile'”.

It’s you who is modifying (that is, lying about) what Licht said. He never said “for awhile” as you claim.

What Licht said is this: “And it really was a close battle. There were times during camp last year that I thought Kyle was ahead of him.”

This tells us it was a “close battle” and that “during camp” there were multiple “times” that “Kyle was ahead”.

I agree with the comment above that what Licht says here is shocking. Because Bowles already gave the job to Mayfield, Licht cannot now say outright that Trask won the battle, so he goes as far as he can without throwing shade at Bowles.

  93. 1976 Says:

Beeej Says: “He said there were DAYS where he outPASSED him”

Oh, no. You too? Licht said no such thing. Go back and read what he says.

  94. 1976 Says:

Damn, the Baker cultists are so pithed off at what Licht said that they’re just making up stuff lmao!

  95. Tony Marks Says:

    1976 Says:
no idea what Trask can or cannot do with starters in a game situation.

This argument if Forever silly. In the NFL being drafted does not equal you must get starts . Its the job of an NFL caliber QB to earn the right from your coaches based on practice.

Purdy did not get to start because the Niners said – hey lets just give the kid a go since we drafted him. He started because he was the best healthy option as deemed by the coach

Trask failed to be that even when Baker was at 15%. Get over it.

🙂 Only a traskite could have the direct quote right on the same page and lie about it.

right from the article a direct quote –
“There were times during camp last year that I thought Kyle was ahead of him.”

Most races I have watched there was runner ahead for “a time ” that never won the race. the “times ” indicates in fact the person lost or you would never need to add times.

  97. 1976 Says:

Tony Marks Says: “Only a traskite could have the direct quote right on the same page and lie about it.”

    You’re so easy.

Toni: “What he really said was ‘for awhile.'”

Licht: “And it really was a close battle. There were times during camp last year that I thought Kyle was ahead of him. That was kind of exciting for me to see what we have in Kyle.”

No “for awhile” anywhere in Licht’s statement = Baker Boi Toni is a liar

  98. Matt Says:

The question isn’t whether Trask is better than Baker. Baker will cost $35-40 mil more.

    The question is

Trask + 2 all pros (Think Evans and AW) vs Mayfield

I’d much rather have the Trask side

I am not lyng about anything “a while” is no different than “times” .

awhile is measurement of time. Go buy a dictionary nitwit.

What you wrote WAS and IS a lie. You subtracted the times in your previous post to make it seem Licht indicated Baker was generally outplayed in training camp by Kyle which Licht NEVER said. At times in fact indicates that Licht did NOT consider Baker to have been outplayed overall or there would ne no reason to add – at times

  100. Matt Says:

Oh and my opinion isn’t because I’m a Gator or Traskite. I’d rather have Jameis for $40m less than Baker

  101. bucsfaninOregon Says:

The Bucs should have a sign in HQ that reads “Don’t Draft FU/FSU- -Avoid Homers”. Whenever we have done so we activate the homers. Example=Traskies.

  102. Capt.Tim Says:

Mike Evans practices with Trask everyday. Both Mike and his agent made it clear.
No Mayfield, Mike doesnt come back!
How pathetic. A proBowl Wr like Evans cant see how fantastic Trask is. Its obvious! Even to a bunch of clueless couch jockeys, who’ve never played football!

  103. BA’s Red Pen Says:

The only team that would trade for Trask is the Memphis Showboats.

  104. Since76 Says:

If Trask was equal to or just below Mayfield in competition in training camp which is basically lichts words then licht failed drafting a QB in the second round. Mayfield’s best year was average at best with one of the best receiving corp’s in the league. Licht needs to replace Mayfield with a vet because his scouting dept can’t evaluate QB talent. So bring in a decent vet. That is more consistent than Mayfield.

  105. 1976 Says:

Since76 Says: “If Trask was equal to or just below Mayfield in competition in training camp which is basically lichts words then licht failed drafting a QB in the second round.”

The complete opposite is true. Since Trask had no experience whatsoever before the 2023 training camp playing or even practicing with the Bucs starters – as Licht has confirmed – that Trask beat out/played even with a 6th-year first-round pick means Licht may have hit the jackpot with his pick of Trask. Bucs World has just screwed up entirely Trask’s development by never playing him in a game with the starters, so nobody knows what exactly we have in Trask right now.

    Wrong

At least according 49ers owner at the beginning of a 20 minute YT vid.

He said Purdy was better in camp than their 1st & 2nd string QBs but because they were drafted higher & made more money, Purdy remained QB 3

    It happens, believe me

Trask remains a question mark but strongly believe the potential is there

It would be so hilarious if we traded or let Trask go and he turned out to be a franchise quarterback. Dude needs to go to another team that will put him in, I’d like to see him play for once

  109. Mike S Says:

You put Trask in at QB in Atlanta and they win 10 games minimum.

  110. Since76 Says:

1976….licht failed with Trask. Trask might be the next Rogers who knows. But he won’t be for the bucs so he failed in drafting him. He failed in developing him and he failed to even find out if the kid can play. Just in my observation you can’t really fail worse than licht failed with Trask. No return on the investment. Nothing. Licht has failed in one category through his tenure with the bucs and that category is the most important…… QB. Brady was a no brainer so don’t go there.

  111. Dave Pear Says:

Mike S. – you should do standup in Vegas. If you put Trashk in an Atlanta uniform it would take him 5 years to win 10’games.

Trashk is no Mike Glennon. He’s not even a USFL backup.

  112. Gators and Fins Says:

Does anyone remember his first start not only in Gainesville, but anywhere at all. Never started a game anywhere high school either, and he came out and played like a season quarterback and shred the defensive backfield. Y’all need to either play him or let him go you’re wasting his time we know in football players the clock is always ticking. And knowing the so-called head coach bowls he’ll probably keep him and sit him for longer. Like he knows what he’s doing. And all this winning the NFC South s*** witrh a less than 500 record come on I’d be embarrassed. No trask is destined to leave and shine somewhere else,,, just like a long list of those other players who left the buccaneers and went on to be great somewhere else. Well if anything Tampa you have tradition.
