Greg Gaines Will Return For His Second Bucs Season

March 11th, 2024

Bucs defensive tackle Greg Gaines.

Joe loves a grimy trenches signing to break up the sizzle of the Bucs throwing big money at their quarterback and legendary receiver.

Per various reports (and a colorful text message Joe received), veteran defensive tackle Greg Gaines will return for his second season in Tampa after four years with the Rams.

Gaines turns 28 next month and had a solid 2023 season. He wasn’t great, but Joe thought the Bucs might have been better served getting Gaines more snaps early in the year. Regardless, Gaines stayed healthy and wasn’t a liability, which is certai nly good enough for a veteran rotational player in a solid defense.

Gaines is coming back on a one-year deal that’s allegedly for $3.5 million, which is what he earned last year.

You can’t win games without solid backup/rotational players, like Gaines. Good signing.

Bucs defensive line rotation is looking very potent.

thats a big boy right there!

  19. Hearty Dikerson Says:

I think we could’ve found a cheaper JAG at his position. He was invisible last year. $3.5M for an average back-up NT just seems a little steep.

  20. Buc4evr Says:

Good signing for a solid guy in the rotation. Would like to get some good FAs. Guys like Armstead.

  21. StormyInFl Says:

Good signing. Anyone bagging on this doesn’t understand his role. You need guys like this. Not every signing is gonna move the needle.

  22. Conner50 Says:

Thought there was some better rotational defensive tackles than Gaines out on the market but whatever he’s alright.

    Trench warfare

  24. MelvinJunior Says:

“Hearty D” – Have you seen what DT/NT $$$ is bringing, nowadays!? Prob very fair there, with what we’ve got… They’re not all going to be a Homerun & I’m guessing they KNOW the ‘market’ well, right now. We’re not dealing with some rookie/inexperienced FO here, in TB.

  25. teacherman777 Says:

I wanted to draft a new NT in the 3rd.

    Vea needs a young backup.

His body is breaking down before our eyes.

He is already a shadow of his former self.

Go watch Vea in the NFC championship again from 2020.

And watch film from last year.

Vita Vea is like JPP. A guy is never works out because he’s so naturally gifted.

If JPP had worked out his entire career, he would still be in the NFL.

If Vita Vea had worked harder, he would have become an All Pro.

    But he didn’t.

Just look at his body. He hasn’t transformed his physique one bit.

  26. Glass Half Full Guy Says:

It’s a good signing. Solid rotational guy at a good price. Young and healthy as well. Seems like some.fans here believe we can have an All-Pro at every position or something. Ain’t gonna happen and has never happened (except Pro Bowls for exhibition purposes).

We need solid and smart “system guys” on D. We have our share of “impact” players. We could use some help here and there, namely secondary, but we don’t need 5 Deion Sanders back there, which is good because they don’t exist. Lol

  27. Buckeyebuckchuck Says:

Good signing. Need those blue collar guys on any team
