David Moore Off To Carolina

March 20th, 2024

Gone.

In a way, this bums Joe out. But there is no way he can blame the player for wanting more snaps.

One of the most fun plays last year was little-used receiver David Moore catching a short pass from Baker Mayfield, turning upfield and parting the green sea of Packers defenders for a 52-yard catch-and-run to seal maybe the biggest win of the regular season on the road last year.

That may be the last touchdown Moore ever scores for the Bucs. Last night the Stinking Panthers twittered out that Moore had signed with them, linking back up with his long-time coach Dave Canales.

At first, Joe was bummed. Damn, speed kills and maybe a guy who likes to throw the ball more, Liam Coen, could work in Moore a little more in the offense.

But you know what? Joe cannot blame Moore one bit. Here, Moore was buried on the depth chart, at best a No. 4 receiver. Carolina’s roster is barren of receivers and Moore might just start for the Stinking Panthers.

Players want to play and you can’t play if you don’t get the snaps.

Joe hated to see Moore go but fully gets why he went to Carolina. Good luck 15 games of the year David!

This one is puzzling. The bucs have been pretty adept at keeping better talent lately. It remains a mystery to this poster why he slipped through and got away. Perhaps a little selective amnesia exist at one buc place? Or he got a great offer….

  2. Buc4evr Says:

Thought Moore shined everytime he got a chance. Sorry to see him go to Carolina of all places. Wish him the worst of luck along with Canales. lol.

  3. adam from ny Says:

moore was solid…and kinda stolen away by canales and their strong history together…

i was pretty comfortable with our first 4 guys…including him and palmer hopefully developing some more…

so this sort of leaves a gap right there…that i don’t think jarrett to this point can fill…

if palmer hits a wall in year 2 we are not in good shape behind mike and chris…i’m a little surprised they didn’t lock him in – but it happened…so they need to focus on a reliable 3 or 4 type to solidify the group of 6

now it looks like receiver is def on the draft radar, no doubt

  4. adam from ny Says:

    guy needed now:

    1 & 2 – all good
5 & 6 – (thompkins & jarrett) seems potentially fine for this year

    ——–

    3 & 4 – guy needed

  5. tbc 1 Says:

Wow what a huge loss for not alot of money-this guy performed every time he was on the field-someone at the bucs should be fired for letting this one get lost to a competing conference team

  6. I remember 21 Says:

Maybe I’m missing something because it seems like I’m the only one, but I do not like going into the season with Palmer at WR3 in ink (which is the way it seems). The guy had 3 fumbles on 46 touches, yikes! And I didn’t see much flash outside of that. I know WR is far from our most pressing need, and if we’ve just got to deal with it, that’s one thing. But I don’t know what got people seemingly so excited like this guy is gonna light the world on fire. People were talking like he could help replace ME13 if he left. I don’t see it. Especially concerning since from what I’ve heard Liam is gonna rely mainly on 3 WR sets and less on 2 TE sets (not that that is a position of strength either). I’m ready to be amazed, but I’m not holding my breath.

  7. Leighroy Says:

Deep WR draft year. Fret not, anxious posters, your WR3 or WR4 awaits in those respective rounds most likely.

  8. Elite Vita Says:

Canales is sure doing a good job poaching our coaches and players

  9. BillyBucco Says:

This one will hurt. He already knows the offense and I thought he was way better than DT. We signed DT. Probably for punt returns. I can see Moore thrashing us.

  10. BucU Says:

“”Canales is sure doing a good job poaching our coaches and player””

I’m starting to despise Dave Canales.

  11. Bucs Guy Says:

Too bad, but expected. I was hoping we could find a way to keep him because David Moore > Devin Thompkins.

  12. Zoocomics Says:

I liked Moore…a lot… rarely do I recall Buccaneers players flashing in the preseason and he just seemed to be the only guy that knew what he was doing on the field. Perhaps that’s due to some familiarity of the offense, but let’s be honest, when we say that it’s a bit misleading as supposedly Canales offense was amalgam other 2/3 different offenses and he had never called a play in his career to that point?

Point is, I think he was underutilized and spent too much time on the practive squad, and when he finally got on the field he flashed. Always seemed to have reliable hands, and he had speed. He’s a solid journeyman.

I know it happens all the time, but what a miss by so many teams if Trey Palmer ends up being anything more than a 3/4 WR on this team. LSU pedigree, decent size, fast…talking about having all the juice to go within the first 3 rounds, and yet a 6th round draft pick? Hands are suspect, hopefully he figures it out at the pro level, but money is on that he’s nothing special.

  13. Beeej Says:

I liked him better as a #3 than Palmer, but what do I know

  14. Lt. Dan Says:

D@mn it! I like Moore. Could’a gotten him on the cheap too. I guess he was viewed as a Jarrett clone – no need to have twins on the roster.

  15. NutterBuccer Says:

Trey Palmer is going to have a big year. New offensive coordinator might mean different opportunities. But I did like Moore and wanted to see more of him, bur we all knew this was gonna happen.

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I liked Moore….would have liked to have kept him….hope he doesn’t burn us.

  17. ChiBuc Says:

It’s ironic that Moore follows Canales for more snaps, when it was Canales who couldn’t get him more snaps here.

The good thing about Canales in NC is that we know what’s coming on 1st and 2nd down when we play them

  18. Todd Says:

The book “The Peter Principle” was written was a Dave Canales pre-biography.

    You’ll see.

We’re so blessed to have him in our division!

Think about it, the first play of every game will be a run to the left side for 1-2 yards.

“I’ll run it every time! It’ll be great! They won’t see it coming because no one is THAT predictable. Right? Right guys? It’s a great day to be alive. Right guys? I don’t watch porn anymore. Run to the left on first down. Right guys?!”

  19. adam from ny Says:

he might have followed canales because that team is a mess…

he will get more opportunity…maybe even a 50 catch season is possible for him…

but more importantly as a journeyman, he will most likely get a shot at a 2nd season over there as well…

smart move by moore…because yeah i could see him here in 2024…but maybe not so much in 2025…

i think a decent year with canales offers him a chance to be there in 2025 as well

  20. adam from ny Says:

it sucks tho…because he was way more polished than any of the other guys in the room (other than mike and chris)

  21. Bojim Says:

Wanted the Bucs to re-sign him but not surprised it was Carolina.

  22. All_da_way Says:

    Deep WR draft.

Look for the Bucs to add a WR with a mid round pick.

  23. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

    Good for him!
It’s a bad year to be a FA WR.
This is a very deep receiver draft class.
The Bucs need a heavy emphasis on offense.
Center first round, receiver second round. They need to think of Godwins replacement.
I doubt quality defense players will drop to 26, and I hate reaching for a need.
Remember when KC took a linebacker named Thomas and the Bucs took the next best LB named Thomas?

  24. BridleOaksBuc Says:

I trust in Licht…He’s earned it

  25. Jerseybuc Says:

Draft class is loaded with receivers and David has a strong connection with Canales. This one makes sense and I am sure we re load next Month with a mid range pick. Good for him, and yes that TD was electrifying.

  26. JimBobBuc Says:

I don’t blame Moore, he’ll get many more touches at Carolina.

Palmer and Thompkins made some good catches but had too many fumbles. Bryan McClendon needs to work with them in the off-season to reduce the fumbles and bring their games way up. The Bucs are really betting on Palmer and Thompkins so McClendon needs to work hard with them since we’ve lost Moore.

  27. Obvious Says:

Not much left to say. Except maybe he was “hands off” since he came with Canales. Moore was worth keeping for sure. HE was a great wr#3. We’ve taken another substantial loss with his subtraction. I wonder how Seattle viewed him leaving?

  28. Let em bake Says:

He will be missed. I believe has last touchdown pass was against Philly in the playoff . Made guys miss. It was beautiful.

  29. TheScourge Says:

    The male cheerleader strikes again!!!

  30. unbelievable Says:

    That sucks.

He was without question our 3rd best receiver last year. Dependable hands, and fast af. Way better than Palmer or Thompkins. He should have been starting from day one.

  31. Crickett Baker Says:

I was surprised and bummed to see Moore go. He may hurt us this year. I can’t help but wish all the personnel who left us to go to Carolina bad luck. I don’t think it’s over yet, either. They were very close to beating us last year without all the intel they have now.

  32. First Name Greatest Says:

Most explosive receiver on the roster in 2023, too bad Canales wasn’t smart enough to use him more in 2023

  33. Cometowin2 Says:

This one hurts. 3rd or 4th receiver. Going to have to replace him.

  34. Esteban85 Says:

    We drafting another receiver?

  35. GhostofBrady Says:

Bummer to see someone who had potential to jell in the rotation go to a division rival. But I can see why he went back to Canales who utilized him a bit during his stay in Seattle. And why Mr. Licht let a seasoned vet walk when he was only costing us about $1M last year. We might be able to draft a second or third round WR with just as much production in 2024 as a rookie and much more upside. I also share the sentiment that a pick on WR takes away adding more IOL, LB and Edge needs. Let see whether Licht can do some horse trading around draft time to fill some of these needs.

  36. HeavyE Says:

Big mistake, it reminds Me of Justin Watson, another Big Mistake!

  37. HeavyE Says:

A mistake, just like Justin Watson…….c’mon Licht!!!!!
