Bucs React On Social Media To Baker Mayfield News

March 11th, 2024

Baker is back!

The news late Sunday afternoon that the Bucs kept their starting quarterback was met by happy Bucs players on Twitter, currently known as X.

And it wasn’t just offensive players who reacted. So too did YaYa Diaby. The man expected to be the Bucs’ primary pass rusher this fall was damn proud what his general manager, AC/DC-loving Jason Licht, was able to pull off before legal tampering began.

Then, it was the man responsible for keeping Mayfield’s backside clean. That would be left tackle Tristan Wirfs. He too was a happy man.

Also joining the celebration was the man who became an elite receiver out of the backfield with Mayfield throwing to him, Rachaad White.

Additionally, closet Bucs fan Peter Schrager, co-host of NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football,” chimed in. He believes Mayfield re-signing is one of the best NFL stories of the year, maybe the past two seasons.

Fellow big-shot media member, popular sports radio and TV host Adam Schein gave Licht a standing-O for reeling in Mayfield.

Lastly, the architect of being able to find a way to keep his free agents, and that would be Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, retweeted Wirfs’ Twitter with a GIF of his own.

To the best of Joe’s knowledge, Bucs coach Todd Bowles does not have a social media account. But a couple of weeks ago in Indianapolis at the combine, Bowles hopped on SiriusXM NFL Radio and explained how Mayfield melded so well with his Bucs teammates.

Joe is guessing Bowles is having a couple of extra Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookies tonight knowing his quarterback is back.

Another average season 8-9 , 7-10 or at best 9-8 lol šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ Just know in 2 years we will be in full rebuild another 5 to 10 years of rebuilding get ready bucs fan!!

    @Oneilbuc,

And your alternative is trusting Trask?

    Pffft. What do THEY know

  4. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

Been a believer in Baker Mayfield for some time now. Was not surprised by his achievements in 2023 and I think he can still be much better. Glad to have him represent the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at QB.

  5. Rod Munch Says:

“I don’t think people give him enough credit for being a true quarterback.”

    ———

What does that even mean? Was there questions about Baker not being a ‘true’ quarterback? He’s not runningback, that’s for sure. He can’t kick as far as I know. So what is his other position?

Not bashing Baker – I’m just lost on what Bowles is talking about. Maybe the question was something like, ‘is Baker a true quarterback, and are you concerned people are giving him very little credit for being a quarterback’.

  6. Dave Pear Says:

Oneilgirl, besides being wrong all the time, what are your credentials that enhance your credibility about NFL personnel, specifically knowing more about quarterbacks than Jason Licht?

Youā€™re the Rob Parker of JBF except youā€™re just an anonymous miserable weirdo who hates it any time the Bucs make a winning move.

You must have loved the Mark Dumbonik era.

  7. Dave Pear Says:

Jason Licht and his staff, coaches and players have spoken and are ready.

To the strange maroons who strut as if they know more than Jason Licht, Ron White has diagnosed your problem and itā€™s incurable.

    ā€œYou canā€™t fix stupid.ā€

  8. BigMacAttack Says:

    This is the way.
Jason needs to nail another draft and the team is ready to Roll through the NFC!!!

  9. Tye Says:

Better BM than most those other bums that people kept suggesting…
Best thing to come out of this is we can move on from the ludicrous suggestions of Trask, Wilson, Fields, or whatever struggling qb!

  10. firethecannons Says:

I like Baker after his performance last year more than I like any quarterback in the draft and this year is a good bunch in the draft. Baker is worth it. Would love to see us really get a good center and left guard and Mauch needs to bulk up. Fed up with being the worst run game in the league. Lets get Trey Benson in round 2.

  12. Bustedbaker Says:

Overpaid, heā€™s a good guy, just an average qb. Brissett would have the same stat line and be cheaper. I donā€™t understand the level of loyalty Bucs fans have for this guy after one season, half of you wanted him gone halfway through the season. Iā€™ll root for him, but I wonā€™t be surprised if they miss the playoffs because he has nothing to play for now, he got paid. People also talking about JL knowing more about qbs, I laughed so hard. Guy gets Brady and somehow heā€™s a qb god. Give me a break. Who drafted trask again? Who thought Blaine gabbert was going to be the answer if Tom Brady wasnā€™t there? Short memories I guess. Is there still time to cancel the OnlyBakers subscription? Cant wait to see fans blame Bowles for bakers poor play. Waiting for angry Bucs fans in 3..2ā€¦1

  13. Pewter Power Says:

He has a great season in 2023 but doesnā€™t automatically mean heā€™ll be just as his in 24, the door swings both ways so please donā€™t do what you did with Brady on the roster. Actually try and draft a future starter and not a perennial back up. We saw what happens we baker got injured so please draft a guy, I donā€™t want to see whatā€™s behind door #2 (Trask)

  14. Gipper Says:

Last season was Bakerā€™s new floor. Going to be a fun season. No more runs only on 1st and 2nd down. Tampa offense will be explosive in 2024.

I really wish some of these folks could just turn off their hate and enjoy a “still” young QB who can make every throw with the best of them, fight hard with every being in his body for his teammates & adopted city, and scrap for every single yard. Go Bucs!

  17. Shane Callahan Says:

Only person I’m feeling sorry for today is Kevin Stefanski who knows that if he didn’t work for a moron gas station owner who demanded they hire a sexual predator, he and Baker could have been lifting a Lombardi trophy in the air this year. Trask homers: You’re now stuck with Baker; join the ship and let’s start having fun!

Mayfield isn’t going to be asked to do everything and that is good enough. Bucs can now focus on the draft to upgrade OC, LG, TE. RB, EDGE (#1 priority).

  30. Lynchmob47 Says:

This is a good deal for both. Baker got some money and bucs have a bridge for now at a good price. Only locked in for 50mil guaranteed, means hes paid thru 1/2 of next season if he ends up stinking. We wont get stuck with crazy dead money..
However……Mostly cause I wouldn’t be able to handle the drama on this forum if Baker left…you all would be off the charts…lol not funny
I like Jason, think he’s great, but that doesn’t mean he is God when it comes to the bucs and football..I don’t get paid to evaluate players for living, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know anything. Jason has made some mistakes, so don’t forget he is human.
Signing Baker was better for Trask, he will get to play this year for sure…If Trask stinks he should be cut before season and they can keep Wolford as the back up. It doesn’t matter if he’s cheap if he stinks he stinks and should be cut. If he stays, well then Jason must still think just maybe there is something there…..
Now that the 2 bugs deals are done FA drama is over for the day for bucs….were not losing anyone today

  31. Buc4evr Says:

The Mayfield signing makes sense if the Bucs are truly committed to fixing the O line.

  32. Oneilbuc Says:

Baker bucs. You are not a real bucs fan of the bucs so you can’t say us bucs fans. You have already admitted that you are a Baker Mayfield fan only you need to go back to Cleveland or Carolina or LA were ever team you came from.

  33. #99 the big fella Says:

Haters going to hate.. Nothing the Bucs do will make these miserable people happy.

  34. Beeej Says:

Oneil, heard you saying exactly the same crap about Brady for 3 years

  35. Farmeroff Says:

Anyone saying this deal is an overpay has 0 knowledge about the QB market. For this to be an overpay you need to be able to argue that there are both players paid less than Baker that are better than him and also that players paid more than him are not worse than Baker.

Let’s start with players paid less than Baker, this list comprises of 3 groups. Group A are players on rookie contracts, these can be ignored because any player in this group (CJ Stroud ect) WILL command at contract that begins with a 4, possibly even a 5. Group B is journeymen QBs like Brisette, Darnold, Winston ect, Mayfield is a far better player than any of these guys so how much these players make is irrelevant and finally Group C is veteran QBs who are not, at least at the point of signing their contract, journeyman QBs which is a list of only 3 people. Firstly Jordan Love, he is signed to a 1yr $13m contract that he signed PRIOR to the 2023 season where he was still an unknown product, if he plays well this year Love will, much like Stroud, command a contract that begins with a 4 or even a 5. That leaves only Jimmy G and Geno Smith as veteran non journeyman QBs who make less money than Baker, Jimmy G is an easy one as I believe last year he cemented himself as a journeyman QB, the next time he signs a contract it will not be for more than $10m per year, his contract in no way makes Bakers contract look bad. Now finally onto Smith, this is the closest contract to Bakers that can actually start a discussion, Smith is on $25m a year 3yr contract with $40m guaranteed and in the minds of some Smith and Mayfield are the same tier of QB, I find this laughable since Smith only had 1 good season before signing his contract whilst Baker has had 3 and Baker is also much younger so for me it’s a no brainer that Baker is a better QB and therefore deserves more money however even if you really do think that Smith and Baker are the same tier of QB then we need to look at the salary cap when they signed their contracts, Smiths 25m in 2023 was almost 9% of the total salary cap whereas due to the $30 salary cap increase makes Bakers contact only 7.6% of the total salary cap. In closing you cannot argue that Bakers contract is an overpay based on players paid less than him.

Now, can you argue that all players who earn more money than Baker are all clearly better than him? Baker is ranked 17th in AVG yearly earnings right now so let’s compare him to Goff at rank 16, is Goff a better QB than Baker? I’m a Baker fan thus bias but I’d say Baker and Goff are in the same QB tier of anywhere from the 12-18th best QB in the league and Goffs contract was signed many years ago when the salary cap was lower, Goff is set to sign a new contract next year where he will sign for far more than the $33.3 that Baker just signed for. Next up is Cousins who I again put in the same tier as Baker but even if you don’t thats fine, Cousins will sign a new contract this off season which will also be much higher than Bakers contract. And uhoh, we are already at number 15 and we have Carr who is worse than Baker, being paid $4m more than Baker per year whilst also having TWICE the guaranteed money at $100m. Then we have Rodgers who is a great QB but is 41 and made of glass, in 2023 he snapped the ball twice and his ACL once, his contract does not make Bakers look like an over pay and oh no, yet again we have another QB who is clearly worse than Baker in Daniel Jones who is making $40m per year with $104m guaranteed compared to Bakers $50m guaranteed. Then spots 12-9 we have Dak, Stafford, Allen and Mahomes who are all better than Baker but you get to the point where their price of contract is so high that they simply do not make Bakers contract look too high. After them we have another group of Watson, Murray and Wilson who’s contracts actually make Bakers look like a STEAL for the Bucs, can you confidently say any of these players are clearly better than Baker? The past 2 years would not support that argument. And now we are in the $50m+ contracts of Hurts, Jackson, Herbert and Burrow who sure, are all better than Baker (Hurts is questionable) but are they $17m a year and 3-4x the total guaranteed money better than Baker? The short answer is no, they aren’t.

I’m summary Bakers contract compared to every other QB in the league shows that it is an absolute STEAL for the Bucs organisation and, in my bias opinion, shows that Baker has chosen to take an incredibly team friendly deal to make sure the Bucs can stay competitive. And that is why I can say with confidence that anyone who claims this deal is an overpay simply does not understand the QB market.

  36. Bucsmarley Says:

Congrat to baker and his family
Now prove me wrong and show me your more than a .500 streaky qb. How about this year you decide to play a whole game instead of waiting til the 4th qtr to come to life. Glad we didnā€™t overpay and hopefully there is a out if baker doesnā€™t prove me wrong

  37. Allbuccedup Says:

Dave Pear its moron not maroon get ready for a third place division finish. In Licht I do not trust.

  38. Bucben61 Says:

Onielbuc…the doors open you can leave…bye bye

  39. Bucben61 Says:

Take the hater brigade with you…no one wants you here

  40. Oneilbuc Says:

Bucben. How about you leave because your a average loving guy ! Lol šŸ¤£

  41. Oneilbuc Says:

Beeej. Yes I did say the same thing about Brady before they sniged AB, Gronk and Fournett. What happened after those guys left we were 8-9 and you really believe we’re going to win a superbowl with Baker Mayfield? Lol šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ ok anything can happen but how much you want to bet we ain’t winning a superbowl with Baker Mayfield? Baker Mayfield is a average quarterback the only way the bucs can win with Baker is to have a good running game and a good to great defense that way you don’t have to put the game in Baker Mayfield hands to win it. And we have 6 years that says that!!

  42. ir8oldman Says:

Oneilbuc is the reincarnation of that doofus who was always fixated on sheep and exclamation points (!!!!!).

Please bring something new to the game, whatever the bucs do, you always give half-@ssed crappy takes.

  43. JTHV Says:

If youā€™re a Bucs fan and youā€™re mad at this, jump off the ship. Youā€™re an idiot.

  44. D-Rome Says:

    @Oneilbuc,

And your alternative is trusting Trask?

His alternative is re-signing Jay Miss.

  45. D-Rome Says:

That’s just it too. The same clowns who wanted the Bucs to sign Jay-Miss to a long term deal at $30 million a year are complaining that Baker pretty much got the same money for actually leading the team into playoffs and winning.

  46. SenileSenior Says:

Today l find myself agreeing with the majority of posters. I am extremely happy to celebrate the re-signing of Baker Mayfield. I remain a hard-core Buccaneer fan. (I see no reason to bash specific Negative Nellies. I get no pleasure from that.)

Go Bucs! Go Bucs!! Go Bucs!!!

  47. Marky Mark Says:

If you average in this year over 4 years that is 26.71 m year and he starts out for the team with a big playoff win and pro bowl.

  48. BAā€™s Red Pen Says:

Nobody wanted Jameis to get 30 million other than Jameis and his agent. Donā€™t get it twisted, the occult of Trask are the Baker haters, not the Jameis apologists.

  49. BakerFan Says:

How many times did you watch or listen to a game and know that Canales called a run on 1st and 2nd down. Not much creativity. Hoping the new OC brings it, I think he has the tools. Adding to the line, another stud running back and a good TE and this team will be an offensive juggernaut. This team will be fun to watch.

  50. brooks Says:

    Overspend!!!

  51. Buddha Says:

This is just a game for posters. Joe is smart about it. He gets lots and lots of hits. It is reflective of the culture we now live in. Created by social media. These are the same people who said Buccaneers wouldn’t win three games last year.

  52. Chief Says:

    Underpaid!!!

  53. catcard202 Says:

Baker’s deal hit the sweet spot…Not crazy $$ or years…& not overpaying (vs the QB market).

Would he have gotten that deal in FA??? Yeah & then some…So, I have no issues with the coin or the duration.

Now let’s see what else the FO can do to find a few plu&play types in FA…As Joe has alluded to…Pass Rush OLB is a HUGE concern & ILB is also a big hole at this point. (Bowles D success is extremely dependent on ILB play…Need LVD + 1 in FA or the draft to stay legit on that side of the ball!)

Another average season 8-9 , 7-10 or at best 9-8 lol šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ Just know in 2 years we will be in full rebuild another 5 to 10 years of rebuilding get ready bucs fan!!

    ————-

Hate to disappoint you but this roster will be far better than the one you predicted would only win 3-4 games this past season. You have zero credibility nor reason to keep posting, other than to make yourself look even more clueless.

  55. LANshark Says:

    @Farmeroff – nice job – 100%

    Now:

    a) Sign David and McLaughlin, restructure Vea
    b) Trade Hainsey, Davis, Trask and Tryon-Shoyinka
    c) Sign a good edge (maybe Chase Young?) and Tyler Biadasz
    and maybe Jordan Whitehead
    d) Draft BPA with an eye on CB, S, RB, TE, and Edge

  56. ModHairKen Says:

There are three types of fans:

First, the always mad, always whining who think if the season is ā€œaverageā€, you get rid of everyone and rebuild. These guys donā€™t hold jobs. The canā€™t keep a personal relationship. And no one in their favorite bar likes them.

The second are the ones that keep yelling ā€œGo Bucsā€ back in the days when they were out of the playoffs by early October. They are the ones who show up early to all invites and never let anyone get a word in edgewise.

The third type of fan is the one that punches the first two.

  57. Montana Says:

The alternative is going with Trask and having 30 million to spend on other players. Would likely produce a better result.

  58. Randal Parmer Says:

That is a Team Friendly contract. Baker was worth a FULLY GUARANTEED contract at 100 million. You just got a top 15 QB at a 20 to 25 QB rate. Good for Tampa. The organization is good for Baker. Congrats to both and for you WHINER BUCS SO CALLED FANS. Keep hating your QB I believe that is a positive thing.

  59. Oneilbuc Says:

My alternative was to draft a quarterback but when you look at the contract it’s a good contract for the team. The only thing this contract shows is Baker is a bridge quarterback until further notice.

  60. Rappin Reporter Says:

Bucs as a team will benefit, as will the Tampa area community. Baker and his wife are so charitable with their time and moneyā€¦I knowā€¦here in Cleveland he gave back to needed areas of Cleveland like no other player ever did. Support your QBā€¦heā€™s energetic, loved by his players and will give you his best. Fans miss him up hereā€¦he made our games exciting and wish nothing but the best for your Bucs!!

  61. Trebor Says:

Baker Mayfields best years are in front of him. This is the first time he has been somewhere he feels has confidence in him. Last year was just for starters. I think this young man has all the talent, arm strength, and determination to really be a good, maybe great quarterback. In three years we will be here talking about a much larger contract. Baker is on his way to being the winning face of the franchise. Now, he has to have some help in the way of a running game, protection, and continue with a pretty good defence….

  62. Gene Says:

    NOW WE GO!

And all the crybabies in this forum can sulk and suck their thumbs for another year while the rest of us FANS get behind the team and enjoy some great football! šŸˆ
The off-season IS GREAT so far and our guys are back with deals that let the front office go after other needed players for seasons to come.
This was a team effort between our QB, Mike, and other players as well as the front office.
When management, ownership, the players and the vast majority of the fan base is very happy and you’re not, it’s because you’re either not a fan or because you’re never happy. šŸ˜
Congrats to the BUCs and all the pirate crew and condolences to the bawling babies, may you walk a plank and drown your woes in Davy jones

  63. Gene Says:

    Locker! āš“šŸ™šŸ’€

  64. Gene Says:

Modhairken, if I could I’d loan you a sword so you wouldn’t have to dirty your knuckles! šŸ—”ļø

  65. Gene Says:

Yaya Diaby says ” It’s a great day to be a BUC”!

If you don’t think so then that translates “F U” šŸ˜¶

MIke Evans says ” Baker Mayfield is an elite quarterback.”

If you don’t think so then that translates “F U” šŸ˜¶

    Still unhappy? See translation above.

  66. Student of the Game Says:

I’m with Gene. FU ONeilbuc and your buddies.

Montana, No. That would never happen. Trask doesn’t have “it” or they never would have brought in Mayfield to begin with. Some people just never adjust to the speed of the game at the NFL level. The list is long of those that could not.
