What Can We Expect From The Bucs This Afternoon?

February 27th, 2024

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

Finally, for the first time since the day after the Bucs lost to the Lions with Todd Bowles and some players talking during locker room clean-out day, there will be fresh news from the Bucs shot callers.

And Joe is guessing a lot of it.

Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will take a podium in front of hundreds of #NFLMedia at noon today followed by a sidebar with the Tampa Bay area pen and mic club, which includes Joe and famed JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman. Bowles will follow the same pattern maybe an hour later.

So what might be learned from Licht and Bowles? Joe hopes it’s the following:

* How close are talks between the team and Mike Evans?

* Does the team want Lavonte David back as a starter? (Yeah, Joe can understand how people will scream about this question. But until you know, you don’t know. Remember when Licht refused to answer if Pro Bowl starting defensive tackle Gerald McCoy would return? After that, McCoy was cut and Ndamukong Suh was signed by the team.)

* Do the Bucs want to overhaul the interior offensive line, sans Cody Mauch?

* Are the Bucs looking to get Rachaad White help?

* Is Devin White history?

* What sort of difference can Bucs fans expect from new offensive coordinator Liam Coen compared with his predecessor Dave Canales?

* What plans might the Bucs have for wide receiver if Evans bolts?

* What does the team plan to do about its once-again pathetic Lost Decade-level edge rush?

Joe’s got plenty more questions, too.

Hopefully, Licht and/or Bowles will be open enough to give fans a whiff of what can be expected from the 2024 Bucs.

In Licht we trust! The only man to bring Relevancy back Tampa in over a decade. they don’t call it The Licht house for nothing. Let the man do his work. Between Jason Licht and Mike Greenberg we have salary cap wizards.

  2. Go bucs Smokey Says:

Get those answers Joe we know you will!!

  3. ghost Says:

eh, the “licht house” was the “den of depression” for a majority of his reign

  4. ocala Says:

Jason Licht has done a great job as the Bucs GM. Bucs will hopefully get all five of their big free agents back.

  5. Buc4evr Says:

Jason is aware of the weaknesses on both lines. I trust that if he brings Evan’s and Mayfield back he will do something to improve the trenches.

Btw, D. White needs to go this week.

  6. TomBucsFan Says:

    Go Bucs

  7. JimBobBuc Says:

What are the Bucs planning to do at strong safety, replacing Neal?

Are the Bucs open to trading Dean and/or Davis at CB?

  8. JimBobBuc Says:

    Bowels questions:
For the last two seasons, the Bucs offense has been terrible in the 1st and 3rd quarters. What will Bowels do this offseason to fix this?

There are some well known FA running backs on the market. Do you see the Bucs pursuing a FA running back or drafting a mid-round RB?

  9. zzbuc Says:

I think all those questions are very interesting, but sorry Joe, not sure if you are going to receive straight answers, those are the rules of the game I guess

  10. Upstate NY BUC Says:

We should take a look at Whitehead, would blend in easily. Shore up the back end.. Go Bucs!!

  11. Kevin D Bradley Sr Says:

The real problem with the team isn’t the ownership or the monies, In my opinion it’s the lack of respect that these player’s receive from the ownership stand point. That’s the only way u can build a dienatsy, just remember that u must start from the head if it’s going to last !

  12. BillyBucco Says:

D White doesn’t need to GO anywhere he is a FA. They never have to DO anything with him again, except resign him if they want to.

  13. T. McGee Says:

Why would he spell out their plans to other GMs?

  14. Bucnjim Says:

Sign the kicker first! The Buc’s have spent decades losing partly because we’ve never had a kicker worth a crap and in todays competitive NFL most games are decided by less than a touchdown.

  15. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

You know what you’re going to get ? Smoke Screen, Licht likes to keep everyone in guessing like a little kid at Christmas. I really love the way we get four or five different change ups from some of the fake draft guys. Bucs are going to go this way one day and then a day or two later something else. Licht is a cunning magician. Lol!!

  16. BUCman Says:

We should go after Whitehead to return next to Winfield. They complement each other very well. I know the Bucs want to go cheap at strong safety but you see where that got us the last two years after Whitehead left. He won’t break the bank but is worth the extra coin. I still have nightmares of receivers running wild in our secondary with Ryan Neal chasing them from 10 yards away

  17. Pewter Power Says:

Questions you aren’t going to get many answers for except cohen lol. Licht never reveals much but media is smart enough and know him well enough to interpret

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

This is where and when Lict earns his money. Can’t keep everybody. At least we know Shaq and Joe Tryon are history. Our Bucs are determined to improve that sorry pass rush next season. Do your thing Licht.

  19. Hodad Says:

You can expect nothing but the usual cliches, and vagueness. Do you expect answers to any of those questions Joe? Licht will not give you any clue to who they maybe drafting, or what they’re willing to do to get Baker, and Evans signed.

  20. Richard Dickson Says:

And I’m sure Licht is going to answer all those questions two and a half weeks before free agency starts….

  21. ATLBUC Says:

Joe: You left out the obvious question: Does the team expect to pay BM more than $12M? Is so, why?

  22. Toad Bowels Says:

Bucs will bring back Byron Leftwich to Peanut vend in the South end zone!

  23. 1#bucsfan Says:

GET EM JOE. those are great questions. I hope you get some answers

  24. Dave Pear Says:

Why can’t Todd teach his players what their assignments are in his zone bust coverage schemes?

  25. Crickett Baker Says:

Now it’s after his presser and almost none of the questions could even be heard. Licht seemed to answer well but who knows what questions were asked about who?

  26. BakerBucs Says:

ATLBUC says how much do u make from u r post I expect u r in poverty level I surely think that is over paying for a knucklehead like u

  27. BakerBucs Says:

Dave pear says because they r mind readers like you.they aren’t parrots feeding them crackers for service knucklehead!
