Power Couple

February 18th, 2024

Dominant duo.

Forget Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift! The Bucs have a power couple of their own.

(Yes, Joe has about had his fill of constantly seeing Taylor Swift on Chiefs broadcasts. However, CBS cameras at the Super Bowl catching her chugging beers with Blake Lively and Harpo Marx was way cool. Joe has newfound respect for Swift.)

So who is this power couple? It’s Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.

The Bucs duo has been carving up NFL secondaries for years. And last year was no different.

Don’t give Joe this Cheetah Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Nope. Last year, as far as Nos. 1 and 2 receivers go, only A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith reached 75 catches and 1,000 receiving yards each. The only other receiver teammates to reach this plateau were Evans and Godwin. They combined for 162 catches for 2,279 yards.

The way people bellyache about Baker Mayfield daily on this here website, this factoid really surprised Joe.

Don’t listen to the tunnel-vision loud crowd unless they bring substance to the table.

Spot on. Pure professionalism, as well.

  4. Commander Says:

I’m not against a luxury pick of another wide receiver with our first pick. Then we could have 3 wide receivers with 1,000 yards.

  5. Pickgrin Says:

Godwin’s best skills were vastly underused in 2023.

With ME consistently drawing extra attention from defenders – Godwin is a serious weapon.

Tom Brady said CG14 has the best hands he’s ever thrown to.

Hopefully Coen figures out how to best utilize 2 star receivers faster than Canales did…

Joe, we all know that girls like Oneilbuc know way more than you, or the Bucs players and coaches, or Jason Licht and staff. Seriously, these basement snowcows have a lot more wisdom than you professionals.

I’m waiting for the full reveal of the Kyle conspiracy details, and also the recommendations as to personnel upgrades.

C’mon, girls, let’s hear your genius improvement plan.

  8. Proudbucsfan Says:

I’m looking forward to having 2 -1,000 yd receivers and a 1,000 yd runner this coming season.

    Godwin.

Best 3rd round pick in Bucs history.

Best 1-B receiver on the NFL.

A selfless Pisces who cares about his team and winning than his own body or stats.

Godwin is a man of God.

  10. ATLBuc Says:

If they had a consistently good QB line #2 they would have had 1500 yards each

    LMAO
Your genius improvement plan is spending 60 million on the low end for Baker and Mike. That’s 25% of the team salary on 2 players. And those aren’t UPGRADES. That’s if they have the same year as last year which in your opinion was a great year. So tell me REAL MAN OF GENIUS, how do we get BETTER? Unless getting a trophy for participating is your measure of success!!!!

  12. Defense Rules Says:

Don’t know about the rest of you, but I for one EXPECT NFL players making huge salaries to DO THEIR JOB. Evans will almost surely get very close to his Market Value of $23.8 mil for this upcoming contract. Godwin has a Market Value of $21.1 mil, but is making slightly less than that at $20.0 mil per year. So the two of them together will be making $44 mil which represents 18% of our Adjusted 2024 Salary CAP. For 162 catches last year that turns out to be $146,914 PER CATCH.

Now add Baker into the equation, with so many JBFers perfectly willing to pay him $35-$40 mil per year, and the trio will be getting about say $82 mil per year … fully ONE-THIRD of our Adjusted 2024 Salary CAP. For THREE players. Then all you’d have to do is add ANOTHER 50 players to the TEAM to be allowed to play on game-days.

And BTW, the QUALITY of those other 50 players will determine whether you go 15-2 or 2-15 (like the Panthers did). I EXPECT Evans, Godwin & Mayfield to produce like superstars if we’re giving them $82 mil a year. No participation trophies.

Tom Brady said CG14 has the best hands he’s ever thrown to.

    For context Brady also said:
    On Randy Moss:

“Randy has great hands and is able to make adjustments on the ball as well as anyone I’ve seen.” (2007)

“His hand-eye coordination is as good as anybody I’ve ever seen. His hands are phenomenal. His ball skills are phenomenal.” (2012)

    On Julian Edelman:

“He’s got tremendous hands and he’s very skilled at route running, separation at the line of scrimmage.” (2016)

“Jules always has great hands. I have so much confidence throwing him the football.” (2018)

    On Rob Gronkowski:

“He’s got unbelievable hands and the ability to concentrate when the ball is in the air.” (2011)

“Rob is able to adjust his hands and catch any ball within his radius. He has vice grips for hands.” (2014)

    On Wes Welker:

“Nobody that’s caught more balls over the middle than Wes Welker. His hands are legendary.” (2013)

“Wes’s ability to change direction and make sharp cuts is unmatched. His hands are so reliable.” (2012)

It is very similar to Mike Evans saying something effusive about every quarterback that he ever played with. Reporters and fans eat those things up.

The occult of Trask will never be silenced!!!!

  15. The Truth be Told Says:

Resign Baker and Evans for $50 mil a year. Rework all the core guys deals. Davis and Dean are both overpaid. Buh bye Shaq and D. White. Shore up LG and C spot and get some Pass Rush, Pass Rush and we will be contenders for the foreseeable future. Go Bucs!

  16. Boss Says:

Love dr’s take and whole heartedly agree. We drafted D hard lately and short of LB/edge we need to draft heavily on the offense. We need help at WR. Funny how every once great vet wanted to come catch for Brady….but the wr room is feeling a bit thin. I think mike walks and will be happy for him. Now go sign a tall, fast WR and build the trenches. We’re a team that is run 1st yet will invest 1/3 of our dollars in 3 dudes designed for passing?

Does not make any sense. and no, I am not buying that this team will suddenly go to a pass 1st offense while tb is in charge.

    Godwin.

Best 3rd round pick in Bucs history.
    ———————————————————-

You apparently forgot that Ronde Barber and John Lynch were both 3rd rd selections by the Buccaneers.

Godwin is a fantastic talent and person – but he’s probably not making the HOF

A few other notable Bucs 3rd rounders:
    Scot Brantley
    Mark Carrier
    Donnie Abraham
    Martin Grammatica
    Dwight Smith
    Myron Lewis (just kidding)
    Alex Cappa
    Jamel Dean

Hopefully Raschaad White will play well enough over the next few years to join the “notables” list for 3rd round picks.

  19. Ethan Says:

So with the NFL’s top receiving tandem Mayfield was only 9-8. He sounds like the Bucs future for sure!

  20. Ramon Says:

    Fitting that HE had 13…ME13!!!

  21. Since76 Says:

Ethan…. The word is it wasn’t Mayfield’s bad play……it was the defense…..Evans drops…..Godwin not getting open(until Mrs Godwin spoke out) …..no run game bad oline play. Man there was a lot of disfunction. Curious who the tunnel vision voices are being referred to. Hmmmm

  22. Obvious Says:

Yeah, don’t listen to Godwins wife concerning targets and lies. Oh wait a minute …

  23. Ethan Says:

    Since76 Says: “Evans drops”

Shhh! don’t mention Mayfield’s pick drops!

  24. Razor Ramone Says:

    Harp Marx. Awesome.

  25. Tony marks Says:

“Forget Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift! The Bucs have a power couple of their own.”

Lol theres so much just wrong to that comparison not the least is that couple will be together much longer than TravTay

it wha haters use when they don’t have actual stat to back up their points.

  30. Lakeland Steve Says:

Evans will be a Buc. Baker Mayfield will be a Buc as will Antoine Winfield. Licht is not going to let these guys get away. All three of them mean to much to this team.

  31. Saul Says:

I’m sorry to say but Godwin is overpaid too many injuries and he’s making more than Mike Evans and Mike has produce his whole career. I don’t understand how a guy that produced maybe one or two good years makes more than a guy that’s produced for 10 years and means more to the team than anybody. The only reason he’s producing is because Mike is getting double team every game!! What are the bucs waiting for to sign the number one player on the team?????
