“Obviously, We Want Him To Retire As A Buc.”

February 27th, 2024

Todd Bowles speaks.

Minutes after cutting one Buccaneers great, head coach Todd Bowles was telling the world he wants another one to stay forever.

Joe appreciated the irony.

Bowles was a guest on NFL Network this morning — live at the NFL Scouting Combine — and talked about the Bucs trying to keep the greatest receiver in Bucs history from becoming a free agent in two weeks.

“He had a career year last year,” Bowles said of Evans. “He’s been doing it for a decade now. And, you know, obviously, we want him to retire as a Buc. And everything we’re trying to do and put all our resources to signing him back, as well. Because Mike is great for the community. He’s great for the team, he’s great for the guys and he’s a heck of a ball player.”

So there you have it. The Bucs brass is not shying away from talking about investing everything into re-signing Evans.

If both sides truly are motivated, it should happen.

As long as Houston or another, doesn’t show up with ridiculous money, He should be a Buc forever

  2. Capt.Tim Says:

We can afford Mike Evans. We have the Money.
Can we afford to spend that much of the salary cap on Two Wrs?

    Thats the real Question

  3. Jordan Says:

    He’ll be back.

We can still unload Gage and others. We’ve paid Gage a ton of money and he’s barely even played. Trey Palmer was a nice surprise.

We should still prioritizing drafting another WR or TE though.

  4. Baking with Evans Says:

It’s just a matter of time.
#6 and #13 would lo sign before 3/16.
    I guarantee it!
    LFG!!!

  5. Baking with Evans Says:

    Will sign

  6. Truth be Told Says:

Evans and Baker will sign before free agency even begins. Winfield will be franchise tagged. Done deal.

  7. dbbuc711 Says:

I believe that Mike and Baker will remain Bucs, just want them to get it done.

  8. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

Start at 6 years, settle for 4. Try to keep both long term.
It’s supposed to be a deep WR draft. A center should be in reach in first round, then WR.
I doubt a great TE will slip. Look for a pounder of a back after round 3/4.
Might get a good DL later, but not an edge as they are thin.
The team need OL help the most.
OBTW, sign Wirfs long term SOONER rather then later. The price will only go up.

  9. Mike Johnson Says:

IF I am nearing the end of my career and some team offers me ridiculous/stupid money? Sorry Bucs..Eyes gone.

  10. Bucsmarley Says:

Don’t get me wrong. I love Evans and appreciate all he has done. Heck our family has to Evans jerseys, but he’s 30.
Salary cap this year is 255 mil
Not willing to spend 1/4 of our cap for a 30 year old receiver and a streaky .500 qb. Build for future.

  11. HC Grover Says:

You can’t always get what you want.

  12. ModHairKen Says:

“Because Mike is great for the community. He’s great for the team, he’s great for the guys and he’s a heck of a ball player.”

    Well said.

  13. Bucsmarley Says:

Hardest part of football is knowing when to invest and when to cut ties and look to building for the future. Always hurts but it is a business

  14. Jack Sparrow Says:

Thanks Mike….. time to move on to a much younger and faster receiver.

  15. ATLBUC Says:

I don’t know what you BM sniffers are trying to tie his signing with Mike’s signing. They are by no means a both or none deal. They are not going to break the bank for BM. Especially since we have Kyle in the wings

  16. Buc1987 Says:

Bucsmarley…dude Evans had his best season last year at the age of 30.

LOL….Thats one of the chief reasons most experts think Baker being signed is a done deal

  18. Bucsmarley Says:

I understand Evans had his best season.
    Contract year always helps motivate.
Just saying no one beats Father Time it’s just life
Do I believe he’ll have another 1000 yrs season next year ….probably
But not sure after. We have a lot invested in Evans and Godwin. At this stage in their careers Godwin is more important to our franchise. Just my opinion

  19. Boss Says:

This team has always been to loyal to their players.

Need to be more like NE used to be……cut the cord…..

even though he has been the most consistent WR I have seen in a bucs jersey.

  20. Jeremy Goins Says:

He’s done a real good job so far. I won’t say great because he drops at least 25 percent of passes. Loyalty needs to factor in somewhere in here for the BUCS. I would hate to see him in a KC jersey or God forbid Atl or NO. He had been real good for the team. Go BUCS!!!!

  21. Rod Munch Says:

    Winfield = Future HOFer
    Evans = Future HOFer
    David = Future HOFer

You resign your future HOFers and don’t let them walk.

Then, after they’re set, you worry about your middling QB who is easily replaceable.

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

DO NOT BE SURPRISED TO SEE CAROLINA OFFER MIKE EVANS A BOATLOAD OF CASH. TAKE IT MIKE AND RUN. YOU CANNOT BLAME HIM.

  23. JimBobBuc Says:

Mikes best chance for another 1k season is to stay here with Baker. Mike would be WR1 and get lots of targets. He has some chemistry with Baker and Coens system will be plug and play.

whew! What a relief to all Baker fans. Thanks Munchsk. With your record with predictions if you say its going to happen that way then we KNOW its going to happen almost the exact opposite.

    Go Baker’s Bucs.

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

Very Soon, Jason Licht will be standing at a podium, beside Baker Mayfield.
He will happily announce that Mayfield has signed a 5 year, 200 million dollar contract.
And we will lose most of the Trask lovers/Mayfield haters.
Their poor lil hearts wont bear it.
The rest will be gone next year, when the Bucs cut Trask, and no one signs him.

  26. 941Boltsfan Says:

I’ve said it before….and I’ll say it again! The Bucs need to give Mike Evans that Larry Fitzgerald lifetime contract!

“ATLBUC Says:I don’t know what you BM sniffers….”

Ha, guess that makes BM & Bowels a good pairing.

Seriously tho, hope thy can sign all 5
