More Projected Landing Spots For Mike Evans

February 25th, 2024

Future home?

Wide receiver Mike Evans is the best receiver (by a mile) likely to hit the open market, now that it looks like Cincinnati will franchise Tee Higgins.

And Evans’ suitors may have grown as the NFL last week announced a hefty raise in the salary cap for 2024.

Matt Verderame of SI.com listed five teams he believes will talking turkey to Evans’ agent in the near future if the Bucs don’t re-sign Evans before the free agency dinner bell rings. Those teams include Carolina, Indianapolis, the team formerly known as the Belicheats, New York Giants and Tennessee.

It sure seemed like Tennessee was a prime target for Higgins as new Titans coach Brian Shanahan came from Cincinnati.

Joe just doesn’t understand how Evans would go to New England unless they offered Evans a deal he couldn’t refuse. Evans wants to win and nothing suggests the Patriots have the horsepower. New England is picking third overall for a reason. And who is their quarterback again?

Joe has been over Carolina before. No need to rehash it but Joe cannot fully dismiss Carolina’s chances.

Indianapolis? Is Anthony Richardson established enough for Evans to want to go there of the Colts don’t keep Pittman? (At least Bryce Young was able to answer the bell each week up in Carolina.)

The Giants are very interesting. If Evans plays there in the NFC East like Evans always has, all of those big cities and their sportswriters will be fully behind Evans getting into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. So the Giants could be very savvy move from a marketing perspective.

Joe still believes Houston will be a player for Evans.

I am with you Joe, Houston is a player in all of this. And wouldn’t be a surprise to most of us.

In the same breath, Mike has made QBs look good since Texas A&M – JM. And here we are with teams being listed that do really need him. We need him too.

  2. Boss Says:

I hope mike gets the most money possible. What’s with this nonsense he only wants to play for winning teams? He’s been all about stats forever.

  3. PewterStiffArm Says:

He won’t be going to Carolina, and face the Buc’s twice a year, no way. They will stink for a little while. The Giants? No way, too much pressure to succeed at the tail end of his career. He will never hit 1000 yards in NY. Tampa is the logical place to finish his Hall of Fame journey, Houston is purely speculative. In summary, Jason and his team will find a way to re-sign him so he can finish his Canton thrust in pewter and red. I don’t have any worries, no one else should either.

  4. Henry Says:

Its simple. Resign Wirfs, ink Mayfield and Winfield to long term contracts and tag Evans. The man deserves to test the market but sometimes life is not fair. At least the tag provides the Bucs protection if father time catches up with him next year. And if some team really wants him enough to make him an offer, I couldn’t decline the match fast enough to pocket the two number 1’s they would have to give up.

  5. Hodad Says:

New England will be starting over. New staff, they’ll take a QB with their first pick. They draft at the top of each round, and could get a good cheap receiver with their pick at the top of the second round. They are not going to break the bank for a 31 year old, it doesn’t fit in with their rebuild. It’s never been the Pat’s way to give big contracts to aging players. That hasn’t changed with Belichick gone. Evans to N.E. makes zero sense.

  6. Razor Ramone Says:

I’m sitting in my back yard reading this. Shorts, flip flops,Florida is an amazing place to live, beautiful stadium with great turf, a fan base that loves you and no state tax. Lots of intangibles. Stay home Mike. Go Bucs.

  7. Marine Buc Says:

Houston or KC if not Tampa.

Carolina might offer him the most money though.

No way is Evans going to either NY teams or New England or Indy.

  8. Beeej Says:

KC has ZERO cap problems, ( tons void years, etc) and Mahomes looked like a very average QB last year (only TWO TD’s over 20 yards in the air. He was my fantasy QB, has less than 20 points several times) Trying to three-peat would be a lot easier if he had Evans to throw to

  9. theodore Says:

Houston doesn’t need more WRs, they have good ones already. No need to break the bank on that position.

  10. stone crab sam Says:

San Diego makes a run at mike imo.

  11. unbelievable Says:

Houston and KC are the only teams that seem likely IMO.

Evans doesn’t want to go somewhere with less chances of winning than Tampa. He’s made a ton of money already, now he wants to win and cement his HOF candidacy.

  12. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Mikey boy might want to play for another GOAT at the end of his career. Win probably 2 more Stupor Bowls in the next 3 years and still get paid to really cement his 1st wave HOF nomination. Maybe even in San Fran since they have a great defense, a very good young qb, a very good head coach and a very good gm things we just don’t have.

  13. geno711 Says:

Sure, KC might want Mike Evans.

But have you seen Chris Jones these last two post seasons in KC. He has been the biggest defensive game wrecker in each of the last two post seasons.
Is KC defense great without Chris Jones?

Seems like you sign him first if you are KC. Isn’t Jones at 75 million for 3 years more important than Evans at 75 million for 3 years.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

Some PFF guru says the Bears are in play for #13.

  15. Buccos Says:

I think the Jets would be a likely destination. Rodger’s needs a true number one to throw to as they both finish paving their ways into the HoF

  16. Joseph C Simmons Says:

Houston already has Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Evans would be older and way more expensive than both of them, and possibly no more productive. The Texans may or may not want to add a receiver in free agency, but they won’t want to spend Mike Evans money for one. This is why they’re never mentioned by the real media.

  17. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Aww yes gotta love the time of year where every sports journalist throws feces against the wall

  18. Lakeland Steve Says:

If we can resign Mayfield soon, the chances of Evans resigning with us go way up.

  19. TampabayDJ Says:

Evans isn’t going anywhere.. PERIOD.. For anyone who says that KC is going after Evans is crazy and doesn’t do their homework. K.C. let Tyreek Hill go to Miami, because they didn’t want to pay for a “OLDER WR” and Evans is a year older than Hill. They also let the honey badger go to the AINTS because they don’t pay older players. That’s why they had the problem with Chris Jones to start the season. I just read an article today that Evans and the Bucs are in talks and it looks like a deal will happen this week, and that article was quoted from one of those BSPN guys, Not Adam S.
So , I find it very funny how all these years that Evans has played and never got the recognition that he deserved, now he’s set to be a free agent and all of a sudden he’s the best WR in the NFL ! We know he’s a top 2- 3 WR ,but nobody else would give him the credit. The other guy from BSPN , Jeff Darlington, said that Evans would make KC and a few other teams “Unbeatable” .. Sorry , but he’s a Buc for life. Go Bucs and future HOF WR Mike Evans
