“If Baker Is The Guy, Make Him The Freaking Guy”

February 17th, 2024

“Beckles, you don’t know sh!t about QBs. But I still love ya’ man.”

Almost all the good teams have found The Guy. And a former Bucs player believes the Bucs may have found The Guy, too.

Former Bucs guard and local sports radio personality Ian Beckles said on his podcast “In the Trenches” that Baker Mayfield may be The Guy. As a result, he’s worth more than many Bucs fans think.

“Baker Mayfield may be making $30 [million] or $40 [million],” Beckles began. “It doesn’t matter what you think Baker Mayfield is worth. He is worth market value.

“I am so much more optimistic at the end of this year than I was at the beginning of this year. I hear people say this: We will sign Baker for two years and he will be a stop-gap for the next guy. Stop-gap for what? He’s 28-years old. He could play for 10 more years!”

Beckles believes the Bucs, like any NFL teams, are screwed and conning themselves believing they can compete without a quarterback. Mayfield has shown signs he can be him, said Beckles.

“If Baker is The Guy, make him the freaking guy,” Beckles howled. “Look, Baker matured a lot this year, alright? He matured a lot. He won over his teammates. He won over his coaches. And he certainly won over the fanbase. Make this guy The Guy!

“Everybody is trying to find The Guy. We may have found The Guy this year. You either did or you didn’t. If someone else thinks he’s The Guy, they are going to pay him that way.

“And it would really suck if we sit here and watch baker be successful somewhere else when we groomed him back up.”

Beckles is absolutely right about the market value. The market is the market and there is nothing you can do about it — unless the Bucs plan to make a play for Michael Penix.

A certain someone who has Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht’s ear loves Penix.

    Yep !

  2. TAMPA BAY DEMON Says:

Ian is absolutely 100% spot on, with this.
    Make Baker the guy.
And for the love of God, get Mike inked up by Monday.

  3. Onetrickpony Says:

    Michael Penix…. ha
Why, when we have Trask that we are wasting away ?

  4. JimBobBuc Says:

Pay based on Baker’s performance but hedge your bets slightly by putting in some performance metrics?

Here’s what Baker did this year:

    Regular Season Ranking

    Compl % 25th best
    Yds/Att 19th best
    Yds/Compl 16th best
    TD/Att 11th best
    INT/Att 13th best
    TD/INT 11th best
    20+Yd compl/Att 11th best
    40+ yd compl/Att 9th best

    Outside Factors:

    Canales first time play caller
Drops – Bucs had 10th most
    New OL positions
    Poor running game

  5. Bobby M. Says:

I think Mayfield recognizes that his long term success requires him to have playmakers around him and that requires enough money to go around to sign Evans, upgrade the line and TEs. as well as resign our kicker. Baker can make money off the field, with endorsements. If he keeps himself in position to win and produce consistently, he’ll line up another big payday in four years, possibly another contract after that. Baker likes to bet on Baker, I don’t think he’s looking for absolute max numbers from just any organization.

  6. Beeej Says:

He’s roughly the 10th best QB in the league. Do we need BETTER than that? No, esp considering other deficiencies on the team

  7. T. McGee Says:

Baker is not the guy. All this Baker discussion is insane. He’s a decent pro QB, but a guy to build a champion around? No way.

  8. HC Grover Says:

This is not a market. It is limited by NFL regulations and such.

  9. Wayne perez Says:

I don’t know what licht is doing but he better not let him or Evans hit fa

  10. David Says:

As someone stated above, and the guy with all the metrics stated above… He is roughly the 10th best QB based on last year. That is with a new team, a new line, a new coach, a new OC. The guy has had zero stability for his career.
Just imagine what he can do if he is here with stability and the same OC for the next few years. I do not think this year was an outlier, I think it was a beginning. He’s just hitting his prime 5-6 years.
    He is “the guy“
    Sign him and ME13

  11. Gipper Says:

    T. McGee,

Baker with Steelers will lead them to multiple championships. Going to hold your remarks in escrow and remind everyone on this blog every week of your Mayfield analysis.

  12. Joe in Michigan Says:

Alright T. McGee, who are you wanting the Bucs to get? Trade for Mahomes? I doubt KC will deal him. Hahahaha

Tr@sk as your starter? Do you want to return to the dark ages?

    Tr@sk = Mike Glennon

  13. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

Good rainy morning, I think Baker came out of college to a team that had been in the pit for so long, won some games and it got in his head. Yeah they went to the playoffs but he had a real run game and some pretty good receivers. So he got cocky, well then things went south being hurt, screwed over, and then had a really bad year being tossed out the way he was. I think that I can see why he didn’t play well, he was pissed off man, let’s see anyone else in the position he was in, down on himself and just in wonder of where life was going. Then he came here and had some fun. He’s got a lot of love coming at him and the Bucs are trying to get him some new staff. Let’s not lose something that has kept what we all did without for Ten Years. I’ve said it about Penix and pressure so who better than Baker to sit behind for a couple years. How many times did Baker get out of sacks and save us here and there?? Adversity isn’t easy to overcome but Penix has some good qualities, just got to get over the pressure thing..

  14. BucsFan81 Says:

I am not convinced Baker is the guy. How much of last year was Canales who also resurrected Geno Smith career. How much of it was Baker knowing he was almost out of the league and had to play his best ball to get paid. To many of these guys play great in contract years and then once they get that huge contract suck.

  15. Statistically Insignificant Reader Says:

Penix?? “He tore his ACL in 2018 and 2020 and had shoulder injuries in both 2019 and 2021” Yeah… lets mortgage the farm and sign this guy.

  16. Gipper Says:

Curious how some of these bloggers have more insight than ex players, current players, coaches, and GM’s. Here is what is going to happen. One GM is going to make Baker a long term deal and build his offense around him. When you sign a QB to a longer term, guaranteed contract he is going to be your guy. My belief is that team will be Pitts who saw Mayfield perform 2x per year against them before his injury in 2021 season. Steelers are an extremely well run organization with an outstanding head coach. Mayfield is the missing link. Knowing Baker’s history in college he will want to get back at the Browns for the shabby way they treated him with his injury.

  17. SB~LV Says:

    😊😊😊💰💰💰😊😊😊
Not enough money for all 3
ME has sacrificed his whole career, he wants a deserves the big money
Winfield stats command top money for his position
Baker has Never played with a top position contract and his time is now.
What I am saying is that none of the above are in the position to do a “ team friendly “ contract for the reasons I listed.
JL is in a corner holding a weak hand.

  18. BakerFan Says:

Michael Penix could not even handle a College Team Defense in the National Championship game, how is he going to fair in the NFL?

He was 27/51 for 255 yards 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.
Rushed 3 times for minus 5 yards. 1 stinking touchdown on a 11 play 46 yard drive, ending in a 3 yard TD pass.

He played in a subpar College Conference. HE HAS BUST WRITTEN ALL OVER HIM.

If Bucs lose out by not paying market price then they deserve PENIX and I doubt Evans wants to resign with an awful QB room.

This Penix talk is ridiculous, but I am sure some will be happy with a 3 or 4 win season for the next 5 years because Mayfield is gone.

  19. Bucswin? Says:

Ok Joe’s just curious as how well other QBs have done with the last place rushing attack in the league. Or even the bottom 5. That I believe would be a more accurate comparison. Doesn’t sound too favorable to a QB and his numbers. Go BUCS!

  20. Buccos Says:

Baker is the man. He is proven at the professional level, with THIS team. Let’s get him paid before someone else does. If we draft a QB let it be on day 3. A project, not a a threat to Baker

Ok Joe’s just curious as how well other QBs have done with the last place rushing attack in the league. Or even the bottom 5

Spot on…. it is not only the lack of production but having to play in 3rd and long all the time. I do not see Canales as some genius, I see him as very predictable and the players raising to the occasion to make up for his deficiencies

  22. Cobraboy Says:

    Totally agree.

Make Baker “the man,” But not D Watson-ish “the man.”

  23. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘The market is the market and there is nothing you can do about it — unless the Bucs plan to make a play for Michael Penix.’

What does that mean exactly? (3 different thoughts in there).

o ‘The market is the market’ … As opposed to being a car or a house or a dandelion? Yes, the market is the market, but just like when you buy a house, what it’s worth is determined by the BUYER (he’s the one writing the check). Spotrac lists Baker’s Market Value at $27.1 mil based on a 4-year contract. Just because the Giants were dumb enough to pay $40 mil a year for Daniel Jones or the Saints dumb enough to pay $37.5 mil a year for Derek Carr doesn’t mean the Bucs have to be dumb enough to follow suit. Just look at how poorly both of those 2 teams are set up for the future now.

o ‘Nothing you can do about it’ … Actually yes there is: DON’T OVERPAY for any 1 player.

o ‘Unless the Bucs make a play for Michael Penix’ … Penix has a lot of good qualities to be sure, but he’s the 6th highest rated QB this year. Why should anyone believe that he’s an improvement over Baker Mayfield? Or even over Kyle Trask?

  24. Costa Rica John Says:

There are only so many Brady and Mahommes out there.
If Baker is a top 10 QB sign the man.

  25. Ethan Says:

“unless the Bucs plan to make a play for Michael Penix”

The guy with 2 ACL tears? Are you serious?

  26. Ethan Says:

Statistically Insignificant Reader Says: “Penix?? “He tore his ACL in 2018 and 2020 and had shoulder injuries in both 2019 and 2021” Yeah … Let’s mortgage the farm and sign this guy.”

I didn’t know about the 2 shoulder injuries. The guy is a walking medical patient. What is he, Joe’s nephew?

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    “JimBobBuc Says:

    Compl % 25th best
    Yds/Att 19th best
    Yds/Compl 16th best
    TD/Att 11th best
    INT/Att 13th best
    TD/INT 11th best
    20+Yd compl/Att 11th best
    40+ yd compl/Att 9th best’

If those stats are accurate, then averaging them out makes Baker the 14th best, not the 10th best that everyone is claiming.

And objectively, that feels accurate. I realize some of you may not like that…but if the stats quoted are correct…then 14th is factual. The numbers prove it.

That said, I care more about whether he can become better…and he convinced me that he has the ‘potential’ to do so. I was not easy to convince, as you all know. The QB competition was a complete lie. but that’s on Bowels. We’ll never know if Trask could have won out or not. Baker may have still won a true competition. Like I said, we’ve never know.

But I don’t hold that against Mayfield. He earned respect in 2023. My only concern is whether he can build on it.

He’ll have the tools. The OL is developing and getting better. If we add a dominant center, it will better protect Mayfield and help the running game.

We’ll re-sign Mike Evans. At no point has he threatened to leave, and he has stated that he wishes to retire a Buc one day. He’s been paid well in the past, so he feels respected. So I’m not worried about him leaving at all.

I have some concerns about Godwin, but he seemed to have an attitude change for the better in the last couple games.

I suspect we will lose him when he becomes a free agent, but that is down the road.

Assuming the center position is addressed, and assuming the rest of the OL adds some muscle, Mayfield will have all he needs to become a top 7 QB.

  28. #99 the big fella Says:

Bakerfan ,Nice to see your normal positivity this morning

  29. bucsfaninOregon Says:

NO, no, no on Penix! We have a QB and need OL, Edge, TE, big RB and don’t need a project for the next 2-3 years. The guy is eye candy.

  30. BillyBucco Says:

Give me a break Baker fan.
    Are you his brother? Friend?
Wheee do you the money comes from Santa Claus?
Penix was obviously injured in the Title game.
Even Mahomes has bad games anyway.
Your narrative is ALWAYS the same.
    Stats stats stats.
We don’t need ONE year worth of stats to pay Baker.
    We need several.
As your name implies you are for one guy!!!!
    Thank God you are new.

  31. BUCman Says:

    Agreed! Well said!

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Sigh him for 4 years with the 4th year being a team option…….give him $30 a year with a $70 mil guarantee….

Threw in some incentives if you like…

I agree with Ian…….don’t f around with it.

  33. mark2001 Says:

We have to decide..is he the guy or isn’t he? No guarantees in life. But really. Pick him, pay and play the guy. Or let him walk and spend the money elsewhere. Really…………

  34. Lynchmob47 Says:

If Baker is the guy, then BA and all local podcast need to stop talking about Penix….I would be thinking long and hard about signing if someone was talking about using 1st draft oick on a QB. So BA is sabotaging the deal. Rumors are franchise tag is on Winfield so Baker maybe waiting to see what happens to Mike. I’m not the biggest Baker fan, but he did alright. So don’t do like they did to Tom bring him in and draft a QB…I think it’s insulting and I would feel disrespected by Buc of I were Baker

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I know nothing about Michael Penix, as I do not watch college ball. But if we take a QB, it should not be until mid to late rounds at this point. Baker is the starter.

  36. BillyBucco Says:

    I mean think about it.
Why would ANYONE think your opinion isn’t Biased?

  37. BillyBucco Says:

BA isn’t sabotaging anything if he drives Penix up the board and we need O lineman and D Lineman.
AND Greenberg said they won’t be in the market for a QB so who knows what anyway?
We will know in 3 weeks bit if they pay a dime over 30 its DUMB.

  38. SB~LV Says:

lol… “give him this, stat that “
You do understand that other teams are very likely to pay the premium price, that’s how a market works. Just because the Bucs are in a cap bind doesn’t mean squat when Baker’s agent shows him the money other teams are willing to pay.
Baker is completely familiar with the rolling stone role, college and NFL.
Completely opposite of Lavonte Davidson , tossing age out of the equation so spare your keyboard.
JL will likely only be able to bring 2 of the 3 back to OBP in 2024

  39. Buccos Says:

It’s not easy to find a young top 10 QB who wants to play for your team. Ex. Den of Depression. Baker will guarantee that those days don’t return anytime soon. If we surround him with talent we will be competitive for years to come. We will be in the conversation each year of Super Bowl teams. Very few teams can say that. We should be appreciative of him and for what we’ve got going on here in Tampa. If we let him slip away there will be a huge increase of jumpers off the Skyway Bridge. Let’s not go there

  40. SB~LV Says:

    Bingo !!
    Boccos !!!
Sentiment is coming in last this year.
Still paying for the last Super Bowl run and are actually extremely lucky in the rebound dumb lucking into Baker.

  41. Jack Clark Says:

Pay baker $30 mill a year and let him bake

  42. Jack Clark Says:

You Baker Mayfield fanboys should be grateful the Buccaneers gave Baker Mayfield a place to call home

  43. Pickgrin Says:

    I will play devil’s advocate for a minute…..

Kyle Trask makes $1.7M in 2024 – the 26th pick will make $2.8M. Thats less than $5M total for the QB room.

IF and I mean IF the Bucs see a QB coming out this draft that they really like – and believe would be available at #26 or later….

Saving $120>150M over the next 4 years by NOT signing a “market value” QB would allow the Bucs to get completely out of massive debt over the next 2 years AND also be able to improve the overall team by buying a # of better players at other positions….

    Just sayin….

Yes – I know the Bucs are going to re-sign (over-pay) Baker – and considering the team’s history of utter failure at drafting and developing QBs – its probably the right move….

But there IS another option is all I’m pointing out. An option that puts the Bucs in position to get right with the cap and improve many other positions on the team – not just 1 (QB).

The Buccaneers are in a bad situation with all the debt they piled up the last 4 years. And they are about to add 10s of MILLION$ more to the red side of the ledger this year by “getting the band back together” in 2024….

Is keeping Baker Mayfield worth that? Maybe…..

  44. Buccochacho Says:

14th best qb statistically in a down year for the QB position.

  45. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

I’ll say this. This team got a huge dose of serendipity when it landed mayfield. Lightning usually don’t strike twice in the same spot. ‘Fiddle now, snivel later’.
Why doesn’t anyone ask Arians on this matter? He knows far more about qb’s than we all do, that’s for sure. Btw, the one time I saw penix play, he was less accurate than ole crableggs himself.
Please don’t let Sean Peyton get him. Please.. if anyone is listening.

  46. Beeej Says:

    “Buccochacho Says:

14th best qb statistically in a down year for the QB position.”

    ………………………………………

Ok, if we grant that point, do we have the 14th best center? Left guard? Strong Safety? Edge rusher(s)? D tackles? Tight end? Running back? WE have zero options to put a better QB on the field NEXT year, but the aforementioned positions CAN be improved. And if they AREN’T, what help does a better QB do?

  47. Jeffrey Becker Says:

i wonder if trask pick cost us a super bowl

  48. SB~LV Says:

I can’t wait to go around helping folks pick their jaws up off the floor when they see Bakers next contract.
Lol… Stats ( 14th blah blah blah) are merely reference points
After all Jamyth was the 1st overall pick in the draft… say is Mariota still in the league?

  49. T. McGee Says:

You enjoy that Gipper. You want to hold anything else of mine, let me know.

Baker could certainly plug in somewhere and win a title. So did Trent Dilfer. That is not the same as being the guy you build around and make other team decisions in support of.

  50. Paratrooper Buc Says:

NFL site had ranked Baker as 30/32 before the season. At the end he was ranked 11th.

    “2023 stats: 19 games | 64.1 pct | 4,730 pass yds | 7.4 ypa | 34 pass TD | 12 INT | 194 rush yds | 1 rush TD | 8 fumbles

    2022 final ranking: 39 | 2021: 25 | 2020: 11 | 2019: 24 | 2018: 12”

He has played 6 years and three years he was top 11/12. I won’t say he is elite but with a good team and good OC he can shine more than flop.

  51. Beeej Says:

I expect if you remove the learning curve (new team, new coaches, new system) by only showing his stats from the last half of the season he’d look far better

  52. lanshark Says:

IF they let Baker get to free agency – don’t be surprised if Denver, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh make a run at him. He is an improvement over their current situations, and in Pittsburgh’s case, they have seen him a lot, and know he would be motivated to blow the Browns out twice a year… heck – he may even give Pittsburgh a discount for the opportunity to do that.

@David – who are you, and where is the ‘real’ David?

  53. Mike Johnson Says:

    PAY DA MAN!!

  54. Lakeland Steve Says:

I would much rather pay Baker who is a proven NFL caliber quarterback than a college kid who can play in college but is unproven in the NFL. Every year a bunch of college QB’s are drafted and only a couple can actually play in the NFL. Then it takes years sometimes to see if they have what it takes to be competitive.
So let’s quit screwing around and sign Baker.

  55. Marky Mark Says:

You do both. Sign Baker to a two year deal and drs0aft the best available QB when the Bucs come up. Let the guy sit for 2.

  56. Gipper Says:

    T.McGee,

Huh?….. I think you know what you mean. It is the rest of us who don’t.

  57. Tony marks Says:

    Pickgrin Says:

But there IS another option is all I’m pointing out.

    ——

You are pointing out nonsense Pickgrin. The numbers savings you are pushing is no different than signing two backups Qbs from other teams to save money.
Ask yourself why Teams all across the NFl don’t take those “savings”

Simple because in that scenario you end up losing all your good players. NOT build a team Evans is gone with no solid Qb

    Bye See Yah

Other free agents will look to the door and No the quality free agents that you want won’t take their place because most quality free agents want to win.. Your scenario is essentially a rebuild and that takes many years and using the draft.

Meanwhile you lose million of dollars on empty seats and zero play off sales and very likely you start to hear again of Tampa as a prime city to relocate a franchise. Might be different if you were drafting a top three Qb with the excitement that builds but that ship has sailed with a 26 pick and the next draft or two not being particulalry rich in Qbs.

    —-

No Jaws are going to drop in these comments when Bake gets signed – instead there will be mucho yammering. Like the ancient book says

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

  59. JustVisiting Says:

Genuine question for the folks who seem so invested in Trask. If he’s such a wasted asset, why aren’t we hearing anything from his teammates? Even if the HC really is biased against him, it’s hard to believe there’s some kind of team-wide conspiracy. I guess players could be worried about reprisals, but surely we’d be seeing quotes from “a veteran TB player”, etc.

  60. optimisticbucsfan Says:

    32nd run game
    rookie playcaller
    horrible oline

    Get him some help.

Let’s do this! PAY THE MAN!

  61. Pickgrin Says:

So not re-signing Baker Mayfield triggers a total rebuild – Eh Tony?

It is possible that Baker chasing the $ by going elsewhere might affect Evans decision to stay or leave – I said MIGHT.

I believe Evans stays either way but there’s at least SOME merit to that argument.

But everything else you said is BS.

Other “Teams across the NFL” didn’t push $100+M into the future the last 3 years like the Bucs did for 1 thing….

Bucs won’t be able to afford any high end free agents for years as it sits now anyway – and will struggle just to sign their own free agents – requiring can kicking of 10s of millions of dollars into the future every year – just like this year….

Signing Mayfield to an overpriced contract and trying to ‘keep the window open” for 3 more years will turn the Bucs into the Saints. If you don’t know what I’m referring to – go take a close look at New Orleans’ salary cap situation. Currently $80+M OVER the cap before the season starts with almost no wiggle room to restructure or push any more $ forward. But they’ve got their $37M middlin Quarterback – LOL

Owners don’t care that much about “empty seats” or “playoff sales” these days because they make huge profits every year no matter what – from TV $ that every team receives. Over $320M per team – every year – just for TV. Bucs ‘earned’ $521M in 2022 – 24th in the league WITH the GOAT under center….

And your final attempt at a point – implying that the Bucs will wind up relocating if they don’t re-sign Baker Mayfield is laughable…

Evans will probably be back either way – along with Godwin, Wirfs, Goedeke, Mauch, Rascaad White, Otten, Kancey, Vea, Diaby, Probably LD54 for 1 more year, Winfield, Davis, Dean and McCollum. There’s 15 quality or better starters right there.

Jason Licht has been mostly killing it in the draft the last 6 years. Is our GM going to start sucking at drafting all of a sudden? Obviously not.

Its likely a moot argument anyways because the Bucs are almost certain to resign Mayfield.

But YES – there IS another option worth considering – mainly because of the deep $ hole we are in. And its not nearly as inconceivable as Tony – the confirmed Baker nuthugger – is implying…

Mayfield barely beat out Trask for the starting job in 2023 – he was not consistently good last season – and if White had not converted on 4th and 1 vs Atlanta – that 1 play would have triggered a losing season and no playoffs – and we would be having a very different conversation about re-signing Baker Mayfield right now.

  62. BigBoiBuc Says:

Why so many think we need to upgrade at TE? Only so many Kelces and Kittles out there. I thought Otton had a good year for us and will continue to get better. Had a few drops but can work on that. Also, haven’t even scratched the surface with Durham yet. Had some nice catches. Think he will develop too. Keep in mind their ages too 24,23. Drafting a TE for 3rd year in a row doesn’t make sense. Don’t see alot out there in Free Agency either.

  63. EEK Says:

Got to love how hard he plays — like back in the Jeff Garcia days

It was an amazing career turnaround by any stretch and I think it’s worth taking a bet on continued improvement — I think you make him the guy and pay him on a 3 year deal

  64. Let em bake Says:

This board is going to freak out when baker gets a 5 year deal worth over 200mil. I can’t wait to see the weeping and gnashing if teeth😊

  65. adam from ny Says:

penix is going to be an nfl a joke…trask is waiting in the wings and is your back up…

and fine, maybe give baker 3 years 120 mil…

    i’ve sat on 3 years 100 mil…

    but maybe a bit more…

or meet somewhere in the middle at 3 years 110…

all the crazers in here @ 3 years 75 mil or less, are smoked out because at that price 10 teams will sign him in a jiffy, and that’s not including the bucs…

at this point you might see some back ups being signed at upwards of 20 mil…that’s what the league is getting to……yeah

that’s 35 a year for him and 5 mil for his agent 🙂

My fear about Penix is the Bucs could end up naming the cart that tales injured players off the field the Penix Sled.

    Couple of things:

Someone mentioned signing Mayfield for two years. Really?!! That would be a deal-breaker for Mayfield because it signals that the Bucs hold him in very low regard. Trust me, Baker will sign somewhere for 3-4 years for $35M -$40M a year. He’d sign with the Bucs for $35M and everywhere else for $40M. I list the most interested teams as The Steelers, Broncos and Falcons. And if Stafford retired, he’d be a Ram.

Throw out Baker’s injury year and then getting condemned to the Panthers the next season and he’s done well. Especially considering that the Browns were a crap organization and he had 4 HC’s and 3 OC during his first 4 years.

Penix’s injuries scare the hell out of me. WHY DRAFT A QB IN THE 1ST ROUND WHEN YOU HAVE SO MANY OTHER PRESSING NEEDS? And I thought that Trask was was a Franchise QB in the waiting?

Does anyone on this site think that the Bucs ownership really give two sh*ts about what the fans think?

Lastly, the more negative comments I hear about Baker from the idiots on this site, the more I hope he leaves! I’m certain that the Haters will get what they so richly deserve.

Penix is a lefty. You really want to make your skill players adjust to that different spiral and ball flight path?

    ……

Right there with you brother, I do hope he bolts and playing in Atlanta would be RICH….. I wish he would become a Raider, but not much chance of him leaving. These negative Ninnies don’t know a good thing when they see it.

    Mayfield=Fitzpatrick
    Mayfield=S. King(after weight gain)
    Mayfield=Sims.C
Mayfield< the cap space it would take to sign him.

If not the Bucs, then someone else will make him their guy. I sure hope it’s the Bucs. They are a lot of fun to watch.

  74. Capt.Tim Says:

The longer the contract, the less per year you can get away with.
Plus you can manuever the money to make it cap friendly.
Sign Mayfield to a 6-7 year contract

As for Pennix, Arians was asked if he liked any of the QBs in this years draft.
He didnt say” Id draft Pennix, and make him the Bucs QB”
Saying you like some kid in the draft, is like admiring a car in a used car lot.
You are just giving it the eyeball test.
Arians isnt scouting anybody, just a casual observer at this point.

Id bet the house that Arians wants the Bucs QB to be Baker Mayfield.
Everything Ive read, Arians loves the guy!

    @Buccaneer Bonzai

Those ratings include QBs that hadn’t even played a third of the season. Remove them and Baker is top 10
