Fun Story On How Rachaad White Became Todd Bowles’ Guy

February 28th, 2024

Great story from Todd Bowles.

What an awesome story on how you should always be kind to strangers because you may never know who crosses your path.

Yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles was on “Good Morning Football” seen weekday mornings on NFL Network. The entire crew of “Good Morning Football” is not here with Joe in Indianapolis this week for the combine, though surely the NFL Network is all over the place.

One co-host of “Good Morning Football,” closet Bucs fan Peter Schrager, is in Indianapolis and did live hits and interviews, including Todd Bowles yesterday.

Schrager was looking for cool stories and asked Bowles if there was a player not on his radar that he fell so much in love with at the combine that he had to have the player.

Bowles did. And the player is Rachaad White.

Bowles knew nothing about White two years ago when White entered the draft. Didn’t know his name. Never saw him before. Didn’t know a thing about him.

White happened to meet Bowles by chance as the two were walking down a hall at the Indiana Convention Center about a month before Bowles became head coach in 2022.

The two struck up a short conversation and White impressed Bowles.

A few weeks later, with the Bucs needing a running back with Playoff Lenny growing long in the tooth, Bowles remembered White from their encounter in Indianapolis. So he began watching tape of the Arizona State product. Bowles became smitten.

When White was available in the third round of the 2022 draft, Bowles urged Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to pull the lever on White.

Now, White is the Bucs’ top running back and was just 10 yards away from being a 1,000-yard rusher, in part because Bowles was impressed by their initial chance meeting.

This is a great lesson to be cool with others. You never know when the guy you casually talk to walking down a hall might hire you a couple of months later.

Throwing pearls before swine on here Joe. Look how they talk about their own on here.

  3. Rover Says:

Bowles should have taken a fake phone call in that hallway and ignored this 3 ypc investment

8th in yards from scrimmage 3rd among running backā€™s in yards from scrimmage drafted in the third round? Im happy he didnā€™t take a ā€œfake phone callā€.

White works hard to improve year to year. I am excited to see what he can do with an improved OL and RB/WR/TE room.

Great interview you all did with Coach Bowles as well; the guy is a legit football coach and lucky he is the HC here in Tampa and hope that he can get the bucs a super bowl

  7. Beejezus-belt Says:

Great, RB1 on the worst rushing team in the league. At least he can catch the football with the best of them.

  8. EternalSon Says:

    Awesome! Onward and upward!

  9. Mike C Says:

Falling short of 1000 yards will hopefully be motivation for this season.

  10. D Cone Says:

1000 yards would be nice unless the rest of the backfield chips in less than 250 and QB/WR supply the rest of the 32nd best 1509 yards.

    2 games @ 100. 9 games @ 50 or less.

Although if he’d have had another 10 yards the Bucs would have only finished dead last in Rushing by 24 feet.

White’s production in receiving was the difference in the Division. didn’t hurt the QB numbers either.

Better find a Run game in 2024.

The Buccaneers sign Baker Mayfield to a four-year deal they are absolute idiots I love my team but my God I’d rather have a bad year get high draft picks and have a true quarterback that could possibly win as a Super Bowl then waste the crap load of money for a quarterback that’s mediocre
